Natsu: carefree and reckless in nature, and, despite his consistent brawls with the other members of Fairy Tail, he is a fiercely loyal and protective friend. He is willing to go down fighting for his friends, regardless of how futile it might seem. Natsu has a straightforward mind, and often tackles issues with a "hands on" approach. His solution to problems often involve violence. Even when disrespected or faced with obvious hostility, Natsu rarely ever reciprocates the feelings, and often forgoes grudge-holding. He did, however, for a short time, hold a grudge against Jellal Fernandes,[23][24] but eventually forgave him and considered him an ally.[25] He occasionally shows compassion for his enemies, such as when Cobra was betrayed by Brain.[26] Natsu rarely exhibits any perverse tendencies towards the opposite sex, there only being two noted instances. The first is seen prior to the Grand Magic Games, when he is seen trying to peek, along with several other of his male Guild mates, on the women as they bathed.[27] The second is when Lucy comes crashing into him while nude, and he stares at her body, even groping her breasts for a moment.[28] Natsu is rather immature, making an enemy laugh during a battle,[29] or even pulling pranks on others. That being said, it has led to foes to underestimate him and fall his tricks as well.[30] Despite his childish side, Natsu can be responsible enough when looking after someone.[31]

Natsu continuously tries to prove his strength to others. At various points in time, he has challenged Erza,[32] Laxus,[33] Mirajane,[34] and even Gildarts[35] (in short, all of Fairy Tail's current S-Class Mages), to fight him, albeit, he was beaten every single time. Despite his losses, Natsu bears them no ill will, as he considers everyone in the guild to be his family. He demonstrates this attitude even towards former enemies. Natsu has even gone as far as defending Laxus from being expelled, despite his attempt at taking over the guild.[36] Due to his reckless nature, Natsu's fights usually ends with widespread destruction. Natsu's love of fighting has allowed him to develop a rather strategic mind, helping him to, on various occasions, find weaknesses in his opponent's techniques, or simply weaknesses his opponents themselves possess. Natsu has also defeated his opponents with pure wit, rather than brute strength.[37] Natsu, befitting his recklessness and love of fighting, never backs out of a fight.[38] Natsu’s love for combat is purely for pitting all his strength against others and see who comes out on top and doesn’t like the idea of murdering people. That being said, Natsu he’ll do whatever it takes to win in serious all out war if it means securing everyone’s safety.[39]

Natsu hates the idea of self sacrificing one’s life and has prevented those closest to from attempting so, believing it causes others more pain than good, also showcasing how much Natsu values life itself.[40][41] Natsu values family above all else, stemming from the time he mysteriously lost Igneel the only family he’s known thus holds onto his current one he’s build within the guild and gets mad at anyone who do not appreciate those closest to them.[42][43]

Ever since their meeting, Natsu has gotten rather close to Lucy, even being overly familiar with her, such as casually breaking into her room, much to her annoyance.[44] Natsu has admitted that he’s always felt comfortable around her, which he believes is due to her having a similar scent to Anna who cared for him when he was a child.[45] Lucy clearly means a lot to Natsu, always concerned for her safety,[46] trusts her a great deal and grateful for all the help she’s given.[47] He gets enraged at anyone who would so much as harm her a great deal.[48] More recently, Natsu has attempted to keep his recklessness in check as per Lucy’s advice, even when provoked into fighting by others.[49]

Natsu was very close to Lisanna for helping him raise Happy who would become his partner and trusted ally. Because of this, after her supposed death, no one in Fairy Tail mentioned her out of respect for his feelings.[50] However, after Lisanna's return to Earth Land from Edolas, this is no longer the case.[51]

Out of his guild mates, Natsu feels most antagonistic towards Gray, as the two constantly fight and bicker every chance they have since childhood. The two were even initially reluctant on being on the same team and usually acted friendly towards each other to avoid Erza’s scolding.[52] Despite all this, they do care for each other as much as anyone in the guild, Natsu has carryed Gray when he’s down, even preventing Gray from sacrificing himself numerous times, even being saddened to tears.[53] The two are shown at times to at least get along in friendly competitions.[54]

Natsu fears Erza the most out everyone and panics if he ever gets on her bad side, yet still challenges her to a fight when he can.[55] Natsu respects Erza for her strength, saying she’s at her best when she’s strong and violent, thus gets mad at anyone who so much as brings her sadness.[56] Natsu would go as far as defy the Council for Erza’s sake, such as attempting to stop Jellal’s imprisonment knowing it would’ve hurt Erza despite his own issues with him at the time.[57]

As a Dragon Slayer, Natsu suffers from motion sickness. Natsu becomes sick from riding on any form of transportation, even if the transportation happens to be other people, as shown when he was carried by Lucy. This, however, does not apply to Happy,[58] as he considers him family, not transportation. Natsu can become sick from looking at, or simply thinking about, any form of transportation.[59] In spite of his naturally dense nature, Natsu is quite perceptive and understanding of his friend's feelings. After his battle with Gildarts during the S-Class Mage Promotion Trial, Natsu came to understand and accept fear, and has used this acceptance to help his guildmates and himself emotionally grow. Prior to this event, Erza’s wrath (albeit for comic relief), transportation, and the Magic Council were the only were the only things that Natsu feared.[60]

Lucy: Lucy takes exceptional pride in her appearance and is very confident in her sex appeal, often exuding a certain amount of vanity.[8] Despite this superficial attitude, she is a clever, kind, and genuinely caring person. Lucy is passionate for literature and is in the process of writing her own novel about her adventures with Fairy Tail although she does not like telling anyone about it. She is a member of the Heartfilia family, once one of the wealthiest and most influential conglomerate families in the country of Fiore.[9] However, due to her estranged relationship with her father and the death of her mother, Layla Heartfilia, she left home to follow her own path, which displays an ambition for independence.[10]

Lucy is very kind to her Celestial Spirits and refuses to utilize them as shields or think of them as such. She fights alongside her Spirits and treats them as friends,[11] unlike several other Celestial Spirit Mages, who view them as mere tools and objects.[12] Lucy cares greatly for her Spirits and will also go to great lengths to give them happiness, even at the cost of her life. Despite technically being an owner of the Spirits, she refuses to be addressed as such and instead prefers to be called their friend.[13] Although, Lucy is, in most cases, cowardly and easily frightened, she has no problems with fighting and would happily stand up to danger, even if she ends up getting hurt, for her friends and guild. While her powers are normally not as overwhelming as her teammates, Lucy has proven to be a capable combatant herself, often using her cleverness to her advantage, and thinking outside the box during battle. She has eventually inherited Natsu's stubbornness and refusal to give up, even when the odds are against her.[14]

Lucy usually freaks out at her guildmate's antics. Unlike most of her friends, she does not get very excited about fighting and is not quick to resort to violence as the solution. However, she does admit that being around her guildmates is really fun. Being a Celestial Mage, Lucy always keeps her promises. She gives her all for the sake of her guild and friends also hates being barefoot.

gray: Gray has a laid-back personality, but will get serious when the time calls for it.[13] He and Natsu have a friendly rivalry, and while they can often be seen fighting one another verbally or physically,[14] the two are actually quite concerned about each other.[15][16] At times, Natsu brings out a more immature yet lighthearted and competitive side.[17] Like Natsu, he also fears Erza and the two boys sometimes act like they get along in front of her to avoid her scolding, but likewise still respects her great deal.[18]

Gray was quite obstinate and reckless when he was younger, being obsessed with revenge against the monster that destroyed his home,[19] but over time, he has attained a more cautious attitude towards life, and deals with problems carefully. He is very concerned about his comrades and is truly loyal towards his guild, but tends to trash talk every now and then.[20][21] Gray is also clever and very creative, something necessary when utilizing his signature Magic to craft items, coming up with any useful items moves as well as improvise new skills and ideas on the spot to gain the advantage against his opponent.[22][23] Also, he has a disturbing habit of unconsciously removing his clothes (including underwear) at inappropriate moments, something he picked while training in the cold.[24][25]

Also, Gray is quite skilled in acting as an evil person, as shown in year X792, when he infiltrated Avatar on Erza's request, something that manages to prompt Briar to remark Gray's desire for "revenge" against E.N.D. has stained both his soul and skin, indicating there may have been a hint of truth at the time.[26]

Gray is also rather embarrassed by Juvia's open admiration towards him, being creeped out over how much she clings and obsesses over him and just ignores her advances, even when he coldly rejected her completely she still fawns for him.[27] Despite this, Gray still cares for Juvia greatly, once protecting her from being killed from Ultear's sword.[28] He also doesn’t mind casually hanging out with her, such as eating[29] or walking together or even going on missions with just them two. Slowly however he begins to see her differently, embracing her out of gratitude for freeing his father's enslavement.[30] When the two were compelled to fight each other, they simultaneously chose to end their own lives than kill each other, Juvia however was able to transfer her blood to Gray to ensure he lived, an act that brought Gray to tears at the thought of loosing her and so enraged that he lost his reasoning due to his Devil Slayer Magic.[31] He eventually returns to his senses completely upon seeing Juvia well again.[32]

A year later, he seems to finally fully reciprocate her feelings, not wanting her to carelessly expose her body in public,[33] smiling at the idea of seeing her again while away on a mission[34] and has stated that making happy is his new goal.[35] Even so, Gray is still rather shy and bashful by her overly forward comments.[36] When body swapped with her, Gray held back his stripping tendencies as to not reveal her body to others.[37]

Juvia:

Juvia is first introduced portraying an emotionless face, seeming more secluded from everyone, including members of the Phantom Lord Guild.[10] After she joins Fairy Tail, she develops a happier demeanor.[11] She is obsessed with Gray Fullbuster to the point that her jealousy and paranoia considers anyone who remotely gets close to him a rival even if they show no interest.[12] when Meredy threatened to end him, Juvia loses her calm demeanor and entered a somewhat satanic-appearing state that frightens Meredy and even Erza.[13]

Initially, Juvia came off as rather shy about her feelings for Gray, originally stalking him up until she worked the courage to talk to him and ask to join his guild.[14][15] Even after joining, while becoming closer friends, she still had trouble expressing her affections to Gray.[16] Overtime, Juvia has become quite bold towards Gray, being clingy and boldly expressing her love for him,[17] cooking treats for him,[18] even offered him to touch her body, all of which bother him greatly.[19] Juvia also seems to have a slight masochistic side; upon making a mistake, she asks Gray to spank her as punishment, saying it's her "hobby." She's also very polite towards others, typically addressing others with honorifics, though she addresses Gray as "Gray-sama" only.[20] Ironically, Juvia herself is also bothered by Lyon's own overly forward affections towards her, yet still respects him enough to also refer to him as "Lyon-sama".[21]

She cares deeply for Fairy Tail and its members. During The Battle of Fairy Tail arc, Juvia is pitted against Cana Alberona but instead chooses to sacrifice herself by attacking a thunder Lacrima, even though she knows that it will cause her harm. Upon entering Fairy Tail, she wasn't feared or hated for her past relationship with Phantom Lord, and she maintains a good relationship with the other members.[22] She is still somewhat shy about her body, as she doesn't like to shower with other girls,[23] however she's still very open to bathing with Gray and doesn't mind being seen by him.[24]

Juvia tends to refer to herself in third person, and often says "drip, drip, drop" due to the rain she used to constantly bring everywhere with her.[25][26] Juvia has a wild imagination in which she tends to fabricate relationships and love rivals,[27] at one point she thought those in the guild were being intimately close before realising it was all in her head.[28] She especially has romantic and erotic fantasies between her and Gray.[29] Juvia sees Lucy as her biggest rival more often compared to everyone else, constantly giving her death stares, yet still cares for her overall in spite of that, being able to perform a Unison Raid,[30] concerned for Lucy's well being after being beaten senseless by Minerva,[31] and helped protect her from Tartaros members.[32] also hates having people see her feet constantly wearing boots. y X792, having spent a long time living with Gray, she also appears to have affectionately adopted or picked up Gray's habit of shedding clothes except her boots due to her dislike of people seeing her ticklish feet.

Erza: Erza is a very strict person, often criticizing the bad behavior and habits of the other guild members, causing most of them to apologize, fearing that they might invoke her wrath.[11] She is also very impatient, disliking people who don't answer her questions quickly enough. This, coupled with her own tragic childhood, caused many of her guildmates to avoid her due to her social awkwardness.[12] However, she has a great sense of justice and pride in being a member of Fairy Tail.[13]

According to Lucy, in the letter she wrote for her mother, Erza is "cool and beautiful, warm and full of passion", while to Erza Knightwalker, Erza is strong, cool and a little scary but relied on by everyone, even so she can be really girly and liked sweet things and cute clothes.[14] Jellal, when he had lost his memories, remembering nothing but the name "Erza", said her name was "full of kindness, brightness and warmth".[15]

Erza describes herself as someone who was always crying, since she wasn't able to protect those dear to her. Several examples are when Rob tried to shield her from destruction, and when Jellal was captured because he saved her and was brainwashed by "Zeref".[16] Also, Erza has stated that she feels uncomfortable and insecure when she's not wearing armor.[17] However, when Erza encounters Ikaruga, she overcomes her fear and defeats her without her armor.[16]

Despite her reserved personality and mostly dressing in her conservative Heart Kreuz armor, Erza has been shown to have very little modesty and an unusual view on the concept in general. Many of her armors are skimpy, revealing and feminine, and when out of armor she has an affinity for sexy and revealing clothing.[18][19] Finally, Erza seems to have no problem with men (or at least her male guildmates) seeing her naked. She felt no discomfort stating her desire to shower with Natsu and Gray or the fact that she used to shower with them when they were younger.[20] When they were at the hot spring, when she learned that the boys may have been peeping on her and the other girls, she wanted to invite them to bathe with them, much to Wendy's shock and Lucy's strong objection.[21] Lucy has also stated that Erza has a habit of climbing into her bed in their shared room during the Grand Magic Games.[22]

It was shown that Erza can't hold her liquor. While drunk, she acts very aggressive towards others, as shown by her behavior towards her guildmates. She also seems to have a problem recognizing people when drunk.[23]

As mentioned by Levy, Erza has a secret fondness for smut and erotic novels.[24]

Wendy: Wendy is a very shy and polite girl.[19] She is always accompanied by her Exceed companion, Carla, as they have a very close relationship.[20] She is very eager to try and make friends.[11] Wendy also cares greatly for her guild members, and even suggested going to the home-town of the Exceed to try and get them to evacuate when they were under threat.[21] She's initially portrayed as insecure, doubting of both her ability to help her allies and appearance (eg, the sizes of her breasts), however Wendy has become more confident and brave as time goes on, and she always tries to be of help wherever she can.[22] She is intelligent and has a very honest personality, is "direct and open with her emotions", and is easily swayed by the people around her. However, this also causes her to be "very romantic". She can be spontaneous and "very ditzy".[23] Unlike the other Dragon Slayers, Wendy doesn't enjoy fighting, preferring to avoid it as much as possible. If, however, it's for the sake of her guild or friends, Wendy will fight without hesitation. However, after Doranbolt saved her and Carla from dying, with the destruction on one Face, Wendy cut her hair, deciding she would no longer cry and whine, and would continue to fight as long as her friends are fighting as well.[12]

As a Dragon Slayer, Wendy suffers from motion sickness when riding on any form of transportation. Her condition started during the one year period between Fairy Tail's disbandment and reestablishment. Due to practically being unable to move and think properly in this state, Wendy can't cast healing spells like Troia on herself to counter it.[24] recently she started wearing nothing but shoes and socks due to not wanting people looking at her feet.
