After initially being discarded due to him shedding tears over his dreams, Ei took pity on him then she sealed his powers away and released him into Inazuma to live an ordinary life. At the time, he was bestowed by Ei with the name Kabukimono eventually he gained his own consciousness and wandered Inazuma. Before joining the Fatui, Scaramouche went by many aliases and spent time in Tatarasuna gradually growing close to its people, and was taught how to perform human rituals. He particularly developed a bond of friendship with the armory officer Niwa that lead the operations in the Mikage Furnace. Though being meddled secretly by Dottore going undercover as a mechanic from Fontaine named Escher at the time, working with the Akame Clan to revolutionize the smelting process at Mikage Furnace. However, his methods released the Tatarigami inside Crystal Marrow, causing sickness and death among workers. While the puppet left for Narukami Island to entreat the Raiden Shogun's aid, Niwa took a device created by Escher to absorb the filth in the Mikage Furnace, intending to fulfill the sacrifice needed for the device to work. Before that, however, he confronted Escher about his true purpose. He had been wary of Escher from the start and, although he was able to ascertain that "Escher" was an alias and that the man before him was not from Fontaine, was unable to figure out the man's objective. After fatally wounding Niwa, Dottore dropped all pretenses and revealed that he was a Fatui Harbinger who had come to sow chaos and reap the rewards in the future, provoking the man into having hatred in his heart. After Niwa succumbed to his wounds, Dottore cut his still-warm heart out of his chest and placed it into the device. The puppet returned empty-handed, believing Ei had fled and Niwa was gone. Convinced of betrayal, he followed Dottore's instructions and opened the device, finding a fake heart. Angered by what he perceived as another betrayal, the kabukimono joined forces with Dottore. After the incident, he eventually befriended a young boy plagued with an illness. The boy died, breaking his promise that they'd be family, marking the third betrayal in his life. Before his involvement with the Tsaritsa's loyal followers, he went under the name Kunikuzushi until being found by the Fatui. He was found by Pierro, who persuaded him to join the Fatui's ranks. Intrigued by the Jester's words, he agreed and underwent experiments that unlocked his full potential as an Archon's creation. This transformation turned him into 'The Balladeer', the 6th of the Fatui Harbingers. allowing him to participate in dangerous missions across the world on behalf of the Fatui.[important]
