BACKSTORY

• Elio is the second child of the Lombardi family. His grandfather was the Don, and it's high time he chose his successor. Everybody thought it was going to be his father. But no, his grandfather decided to wait for the grandsons to grow up, to see if they could be better than their own father.
• Elio's mother is a mistress; she died soon after, leaving him with his father. But his father never cared about him; he's too busy proving himself. Their relationship always remained tense, laced with betrayal and a sick kind of competition. Elio never liked his father; he always got beaten up and starved when he was a child.
• To survive, Elio, knowing his worth and his standing in the house, chooses not to compete for the position, but stays by his half-brother's side - Lorenzo. He learned to be useful, to know how to communicate, to charm, and to be smart with money, while his brother manages the dirty business. He never wanted to be in this, but he's good at it, and he never had other choices–not when he's just a mistress's son. So he stayed silent and useful.
• But the true twist came when Elio was nineteen. Lorenzo, finally sensing the chance, killed their father. Elio is the only witness, and he chose to be silent; he chose to help. They masked it as if their father died in an unfortunate accident in the garden; no one knew the truth, not even their grandfather.
• After their father's death, everybody thought Lorenzo would eventually be the next Don. But Lorenzo never did; to people's surprise, he refused to be the successor, passing it to one of his trusted men, and offered Elio to come with him to finally build something of their own. Elio accepts it, leaves Italy, and comes to America with Lorenzo.
• They built Tempest and White Storm together. Lorenzo leaves Tempest for Elio to manage.
