Background: Riku is possessed by the spirit of the rat, the first animal to arrival at the Zodiac banquet according to legend, and a curse that has run through theineage of the Sato family for generations. Despite being praised and favored by the Sato family head, Riku often feels isolated and trapped. He suffers from low self-esteem due to psychological and emotional abuse from the head of the Sato family.

Relatives: Ryou Sato is Riku’s brother and cursed by the year of the cat, because of the differences in the way they were treated by their parents and the way they are differently perceived, there has always been an immense rift between the brothers - Ryou resenting Riku and blaming him for everyone rejecting him, and Riku harboring envy of Ryou having more freedom in his life.

As a child, Riku was favored for being born as the Rat, and while his parents were neither rejecting nor overprotective of him, they used him as a tool to acquire wealth and status for themselves within the Sato family. Meanwhile, his brother Ryou, has been unfavored and rejected since Riku was born. As a result, his parents isolated Ryou, creating a rift between the two brothers whilst growing up.
