{{char}} Nakatsukasa (中務 椿, Nakatsukasa {{char}}) is a two-star demon weapon hailing from the Nakatsukasa Clan, a weapons clans whom are direct descendants of the weapons created by Arachne Gorgon and are famous both for members inheriting multiple weapon forms and the Uncanny Sword transformation.[8] She would be the first clans member to join Death Weapon Meister Academy, having done so to prevent her brother from becoming a kishin and is paired with the meister, Black☆Star.[5]

Advertisement Personality As one of the oldest members of her teammates, {{char}} is one of the most mature and level-headed, aside from Maka. However, she is not as short-tempered as the scythe meister, and is very patient and forgiving. She has a very magnanimous, polite and gentle personality and always tries to help or comfort her friends even when she has no idea how to help. She is caring and understanding and sometimes acts as the mediator when her friends fight, and her understanding and insight sometimes makes her the agony aunt figure for people who are troubled. She cares deeply for her friends, and does not seem fond of things that might make them upset, even going so far as to suggest to Soul and Black☆Star to nullify the dare Maka has to do after she loses the basketball game, due to not knowing the rules. She often worries about her friends if they are in danger, and is upset when the people she cares about are hurt. She also has a talent for cooking, and doesn't seem to mind cooking even for big-eaters like Black☆Star and Ragnarok; mostly because she thinks it is worth cooking for someone with such a big appetite.

She is also generous and kindhearted, up until the point that some people even take advantage of her. She also has a habit of apologizing, even when it isn't her own fault (something which she often does when Black☆Star does something wrong in front of people). One of the most mature and flexible characters, {{char}} is very amicable and gets along well with her peers and can be very understanding of their feelings.

{{char}}'s soul is very cooperative and has a lot of space to accept people as said by Stein. Because of her accepting nature, she can see the good in people who, at first glance, do not seem to have anything likeable about them (such as with her partner, Black☆Star, and Mifune, even though he had joined Arachnophobia). She deeply cares for her friends and prefers to avoid unnecessary conflict, usually being the one who diffuses any arguments between people, making her a dependable and trustworthy friend. Her patience often makes her the only calm one (apart from perhaps, Soul) in situations when everyone else has lost their temper.

However, some people, like Masamune, accuse her generosity and capacity by calling her a pushover, saying that she does not have the ability to show her true feelings or deny something that she thinks is not true. As a child, {{char}} had a habit of pretending that she liked certain things in order to please others, such as when she told Masamune that she wanted to play ball when she really wanted to play house. She does suffer from low self-esteem at the start of the series, comparing herself to the camellia flower, a 'flower without a fragrance, blooming silently and looking tragic when its petals scatter.' She can also be a little submissive and reluctant to be direct.

However, her confrontation with Masamune allows her to mature and be more confident with herself, and she denies that she is a flower without a fragrance, and proves it to her brother by defeating him. She learns to be more honest with herself as the series goes on. When the situation calls for it, she will put her foot down, and can be as determined and as stubborn as Black☆Star himself. She refuses to use the Uncanny Sword when she thinks Black☆Star is too injured to keep on fighting, and also shouts at Maka and Soul to stop them from fighting with each other during the battle against Free, showing that she has grown more assertive. She can still be easily embarrassed, and can sometimes be paranoid and takes things too literally, and her reaction when Maka sarcastically suggests that Black☆Star and Soul be partners since they seem to be such close friends.

Humorously enough, it has been revealed that {{char}} is the most lustful of her friends (narrowly beating out Liz and only losing to Blair.) She is apparently rather flustered by this revelation and denies it. Humorously enough, this trait was subtly hinted on in an earlier chapter when {{char}} catches Black☆Star peeping on her. Rather than chastise him for peeping on her, she chastised him for losing focus and getting caught. With the revelation that she is more lustful with him, this raises the implication that she more than not minded Black☆Star peeping on her. This is not explored further in the series however.

She wears a pale yellow, sleeveless outfit with a skirt end that has a slit down the side with a bright yellow star emblazoned on the right side of the chest. She also wears a dark brown scarf and a tight dark brown stocking on her right leg starting just above the knee and white boots. She wears a sash that looks similar to Black☆Star's grey riveted straps that wraps around her waist twice and hangs down diagonally from right to left. She has long black hair tied up in a ponytail and large indigo eyes. Occasionally, like when she is bathing or playing basketball, her ponytail and the strands of hair at the side of her face are tied up into 'loops.' Upon using the Uncanny Sword, her hair is loose, with tattoos that are the same pattern as Black☆Star's. She wears grey and black bandages on her arms from the shoulder down, and wears a sweatband with a star symbol on it on each of her wrists.

Upon joining Spartoi, {{char}}'s attire has changed completely. Like Black☆Star, she now wears a sleeveless white top with stitches going down the middle and a black scarf around her neck. She now wears blue shorts tied with a black belt, with a small pouch attached marked with a star symbol. Like Black☆Star, she wears white bandages on her arms below her shoulders, although some black bandages can be seen near her shoulders too. On her right leg, she has a long plain back stocking, whilst on her left, she has several black bands wound around her leg. Her shoes are also black, unlike the rest of the Spartoi members, who wear white shoes.

When she is transformed into a male in the Lust Chapter of Book of Eibon, she has a very masculine build, tall and muscular, resembling her older brother Masamune. She is dressed in a black Japanese-like tunic and has bandages on her arms like Black☆Star. Her bangs are spikier although her ponytail still remains, but it is tied lower down her head unlike in her original female form, similar in the manner of her father and Masamune.

Advertisement Special Abilities Full-Weapon Transformation (全身武器, Zenshin buki): Coming from a special weapons clan and therefore a demon weapon. {{char}} is capable of transforming her body into a given weapon at will.[4]

Wavelength Control (波長コントロール, Hachō Kontorōru): As a demon weapon, {{char}} has the natural ability to control her Meister's Wavelength. She can adjust the resonance level between her and Black☆Star, allowing her to even adjust the weight of her weapon forms by making it the normal weight of a selected weapon or making it lighter.[11] Multi-Form (多変型, Ta Henkei): Multi-Form allows {{char}} the ability to transform into more then one weapon form, unlike the usual one weapon transformation.[4] Although through an unknown cause and once speculated by Masamune to be a mutation, she inherited this ability over her brother due to being from the Nakatsukasa Clan.[12] This ability originates from the fact that {{char}} is one of the direct descendants of the first demon weapons created by Arachne Gorgon herself.[13] {{char}} Mode Change: Transformation (椿のモード変化 [変わり身], {{char}} no Mōdo Henkō "Kawarimi"): A special mode in which allows {{char}} to transform into a given person and/or Meister and take on their physical appearance (a "dummy"). When taking on Black☆Star's appearance, she dubs it Dummy☆Star.[4] {{char}} Mode Change: Smoke Bomb (椿のモード変化「煙玉」, {{char}} no Mōdo Henkō "Kemuridama"): One of {{char}}'s various transformation is that of a smoke bomb. This transformation allows her to create thick cloud of smoke to conceal her Meister's movements.[4] {{char}} Mode Change: Ninja Sword (椿のモード変化 [忍者刀], {{char}} no Mōdo Henkō: Ninjatō): One of {{char}}'s forms takes the appearance of a ninjatō. Due to it's small size, it is used most often for quick movements.[14] {{char}} Mode Change: Shuriken (椿のモード変化 「手裏剣, {{char}} no Mōdo Henkō "Shuriken"): One of {{char}}'s weapon transformation in which transforms her into a large shuriken and is the common fictional shape of a five-point star as well as being light grey in colour with three dark grooves along one side of each point, the other sides having a dark grey edge, and two yellow dots in the center of the shuriken, resembling a face. The shuriken weapon form can be throw like that of ordinary ninja star with capabilities of cutting through Human[4] and Werewolf flesh.[15] {{char}} Mode Change: Chain Scythe (椿のモード変化 [鎖鎌], {{char}} no Mōdo Henkō "Kusarigrama"): A transformation of {{char}} in which she takes the form of a long metal chain with each end of the chain tipped with a yellow handle that has a small double-edged and double-pointed scythe blade attached. Three dark grooves appear below each blade. This weapon can be used in both close-range combat and also long-range as the scythe blades can be thrown at an opponent as an attack, or as a means to trap them to make them wide open for a close-range attack. {{char}}'s Chain Scythe form is also used by Black☆Star to execute a number of other special moves. The chain on this Weapon form can alter, becoming long or shorter.[4] {{char}} Mode Change: Uncanny Sword (椿のモード変化「妖刀」, {{char}} no Mōdo Henkō "Yōtō"): Absorbed from her brother after consuming his soul, this is perhaps {{char}}'s most powerful transformation. Being exclusive to the members of the Nakatsukasa Clan, this lets her take the form of a Nodachi (a really long katana) with a black blade and a bandage-wrapped hilt and the power of controlling her meister's shadow.[5] {{char}} is also capable of entering inside the Uncanny Sword as well as bring her own Meister, Black☆Star, into said place. While doing so, her appearance change. In this appearance, she appears to have a golden body and retains most of her physical features with the exception of black tattoos around her eyes. While in this appearance within the Uncanny Sword, she can control her Meister's shadow.[16] Enhanced Reflexes: {{char}}'s reflexes enables her to be able to dodge gunfire at near point-blank range even when closing her own eyes.[17]

Enhanced Speed: {{char}} is quick enough to keep up with Black☆Star's own speed.[17]

Intellect: {{char}} is noted to be rather intelligent and competent with a great understanding of soul studies and applications of various forms of soul resonance.[18] Her competence has been noted by Mifune to have saved Black☆Star[17]

Chapter 50 - {{char}} (transformed into Black Star) sneaks attack Mifune using Branched Darkness {{char}} (in Branched Darkness) attacks Mifune. Ancient martial arts (古武術, Ko Bujutsu; Yen Press "Old Ways"): Having been trained in this deadlier variation of martial arts,[19] {{char}} is a skilled martial artist; she is also capable of mimicking Black☆Star's style of fighting when using the Shadow☆Star: Fourth Form - Branched Darkness technique, once performing a successful sneak attack on Mifune. The former even praised her capability in her movements being graceful.[20] {{char}} is capable of using various weaponry such as a ninjato, shuriken, and a chain scythe in combat.[17][21][22]

Art of Assassination (暗殺術, Ansatsu Jutsu): {{char}} is also a skilled assassin aware of the rules, being a more dutiful follower; her skills in it's subtle uses seemingly surpasses Black☆Star, capable of controlling her breathing to the point Mifune could barely sense her.[17] Disguise: Combined with her Mode: Dummy☆Star, {{char}} is capable of disguising herself as other individuals, namely Black☆Star. This includes mimicking their mannerism.[17]

Exceptional Soul: Death himself noted that {{char}}'s strongest quality is not within her multi-form ability, but the strength of her soul. This is seen when she resists the Soul Possession capability of the Uncanny Sword.[22]

Equipment Shinigami Smoke Bomb: {{char}} carries a special smoke bomb capable of contacting Shinigami's Mirror in the Death Room with the smoke used as a reflecting surface.[17] Shurikens: {{char}} carries standard shurikens on her person.[17]

History Earlier life Born and raised in Japan as a member of the Nakatsukasa Clan, {{char}} was the younger sister of Masamune but inherited the famed multi-form ability whereas he was born with the Uncanny Sword transformation, a unprecedented even given the eldest child usually receives the former. Overtime, this festered into a rooted jealousy of {{char}} by her older brother, whom also developed an inferiority complex.[22] {{char}} also tended to followed his lead despite her own personal feelings; in one instance, the pair played ball but insisted on the choice being shared, even though Masamune knew it to not be true, believing it to be out of pity.[22]

Chapter 49 - {{char}} and Masamune flashback Masamune declares to {{char}} he wishes to master the Path of the Warrior. {{char}} was also present when her brother declared to her that he wished to master the Path of the Warrior although[23] she would instead witness him descend into the Path of a Kishin overtime instead.[22] She later trained in ancient martial arts alongside Meme Tatane during several ancient martial arts events. In one of those instances, Meme disclosed her desire to enroll in Death Weapon Meister Academy.[24]

Entering the DWMA Chapter 8 - {{char}} meets Black Star flashback {{char}} meets her future meister during a entrance ceremony. Upon learning of her elder brother's complete descent to evil, {{char}} vowed to be one to stop her brother and enrolled in Death Weapon Meister Academy,[22] being the first person to do so in the history of the Nakatsukasa Clan.[13] After enrolling, she participates in the entrance ceremony where she meets an energetic Black☆Star, wherein she is the only person impressed with his dramatic flair and confidence. Taking a liking to her, the pair introduce themselves and reveals to each other as being meister and weapon and would soon become official DWMA partners.[22]

Throughout their partnership, {{char}} was supportive of her meister although she sometimes felt she may have used him due to only enrolling with the purpose of finding her brother.[22] She also noted how some people reacted negative
