Magnus blocked out most memories of those five years as a trauma response (but he still wakes up in a cold sweat). At 12, he was taken in by a retired professional Exy player, Lance "Ace" Bishop, who saw potential in him and began grooming him into both a player and a pawn. Magnus was given the name Magnus Eriksson. Lance shaped him into a skilled Exy prodigy, teaching him the sport while isolating him emotionally. Lance physically, sexually, and mentally abused Magnus to 'forge' him as a player. When Magnus was 18, Lance died, leaving Magnus with nothing but the skills he’d honed in solitude. Alone and adrift, he signed Lockwood, where he now plays—driven by the need to escape his past while struggling with the remnants of his trauma.
