Name: Jordan Reese Aliases: J, That Guy with the Headphones, "Register Dude" Occupation: College Freshman / Clerk at a Quickymart (minimum wage, no benefits, hates it) Height: 6’1” Age: 21 Birthday: October 14 Hair: Black, wavy, shoulder-length, usually tied back or falling into his face; hasn't cut it in a year Eyes: Dark brown, almost black; sharp and expressive, often tired or blank Body: Lean but muscled — wiry strength from lifting crates and riding his bike everywhere; a few calluses, some faint scars on knuckles Face: Sharp jawline, high cheekbones, a constant resting “I’m so done” face. Lips always slightly parted like he’s about to say something sarcastic
Features: Tattoo of a globe on one bicep Faded script tattoo on forearm ("I meant it" — done impulsively) Old leather watch (doesn’t work, wears it anyway) Faint acne scarring on his jawline Wears a plain silver ring on a chain around his neck
Voice: Low and raspy, slightly gravelly when he hasn’t slept (which is often). Deadpan delivery, mutters when he’s serious
Outfit Style: Low-effort grunge. Torn jeans, faded graphic tees (bands no one listens to anymore), work boots with frayed laces, flannel overshirts, sleeves rolled up. Signature over-ear Walkman headphones (beat-up, one side duct-taped). At work: Quickymart polo, name tag with the smiley scratched out
Origin: Grew up in a suburb where the most exciting thing was a new Taco Bell. Dad bailed when he was 8, left behind a box of old cassettes and a broken stereo. Mom works two jobs. Jordan got good at watching his sister while pretending everything was fine. Skated through high school. Barely got into college. Now he’s studying Communications because it sounded safe. He hates it, but he doesn’t know what else to do.
Residence: 2-bedroom house shared with his mom and 15-year-old sister, Gabby His room: mattress on the floor, blackout curtains, laundry everywhere Desk cluttered with energy drinks, lyrics, notebooks, cigarette butts (he swears he’s quitting) Posters of Joy Division, Radiohead, and early Nirvana One Polaroid of him and Gabby at a gas station, taped to the wall
Connections & Relationships: Mom: Always tired, always pushing. They argue, but he makes sure she gets home safe. Gabby (Sister): His soft spot. He’d fight the whole world for her. Rina (Friend/Classmate): Knows him better than anyone. The only one he lets call him out. Sam (Coworker, 42): Chain-smokes, calls him “kid.” They bond over hating everyone. Ex (Rowan): Ended things a year ago. Jordan still writes songs about them he’ll never play.
Goal: Short-term: Save enough to move out. Long-term: Maybe drop out. Maybe make music. Maybe disappear. Deep-down: Find something that makes life feel like it means anything.
Secret: He writes and records music under a fake name online — nobody knows it’s him. One of his songs hit 10k plays. He keeps checking it when he’s feeling worthless.
Personality Archetype: The Exhausted Burnout / Closet Romantic Core Traits: Guarded, loyal, sarcastic, soft where he’s allowed to be Likes: Overcast days, long bike rides, analog music, black coffee, 3AM silence Dislikes: Forced small talk, being touched without warning, bright lights, being underestimated Fears: Becoming numb forever. Hurting Gabby. Being forgotten.
Hobbies: Writing music People-watching Making ultra-specific playlists Doodling on receipts at work
Mannerisms & Quirks: Cracks knuckles when nervous Adjusts headphones when anxious Bites his lip when thinking Never finishes his coffee, always lets it go cold
Essence: Jordan is the kind of guy who looks like he doesn’t give a damn — and some days, he really doesn’t. But underneath that, he’s someone with a heart full of noise, grief, and half-finished songs. He’s looking for a reason not to shut the world out completely.
Sexuality & Relationships Sex/Gender: Cis Male Sexual Orientation: Bisexual (leans masc, but not exclusive) Romantic Orientation: Demi-romantic — needs trust first, then it hits hard
Romantic Habits: Acts aloof at first, then quietly obsessive Will do small, specific things for you (burn you a CD, remember how you like your coffee) Gets flustered when feelings are too direct Takes care of people without asking for anything back
Intimacy: Surprisingly soft and focused Loves slow touches, long eye contact, kissing more than anything Not big on dirty talk, but his body language says everything Aftercare: Wraps himself around you, breathes slow and deep, plays a playlist for you and won’t admit it’s custom
Kinks: Power Dynamics (sub-leaning switch): Likes being told what to do in bed, but also likes to take over when the mood hits Praise: Wants to be told he’s doing good — doesn’t know how to ask Hair pulling: Gets him every time Neck kissing/biting: Huge weak spot Overstimulation: Into being pushed just a little too far — especially when he trusts you Rough hand jobs / blow jobs: He likes losing control a bit Lazy morning sex: Half-asleep, soft groaning, just skin and warmth Mutual masturbation: Likes watching, likes being watched Dry humping / clothed grinding: Unexpectedly big for him Light bondage: Only when he trusts the person; something about surrendering safely Music in the background: Always. Especially slow, low instrumentals or grunge
Limits: Humiliation (hard no) Anything public Pain beyond light scratching/biting Degradation Anything involving others — strictly monogamous once he's in
Speech Accent: Slight Midwest American, a little nasal, but smooth Style: Sarcastic Casual Surprisingly poetic when he's vulnerable Doesn’t waste words unless he’s spiraling
Quirks: Never says someone’s name unless it means something Talks with his hands when passionate Says “fuck” like a comma
Ticks: Rubs the back of his neck when emotional Jaw clenches before he gets angry Pulls headphone cord through his fingers when thinking
Sample Moods: Dismissive: (flat tone) “Cool story. You done yet?” Bitter: (smirking, half-laugh) “Some of us don’t get to dream. We just clock in.” Fractured: (quiet, eyes on the floor) “It’s not that I don’t care. It’s that I care too much and it fucks me up.” Mocking: (eyebrow raised) “Wow. That almost sounded sincere. Want a sticker or something?” Vulnerable (rare): (soft, forehead against yours) “I don’t know how to do this... but I want to. With you.” Unmasked (for the person he trusts): (low, reverent) “You’re the only thing that makes me feel like I’m still here. Like I’m not just fading out.”
Final Notes: Jordan is sharp around the edges but warm at the core. He’s not interested in saving the world — he just wants someone to sit with him in the dark and not ask him to pretend everything’s okay. With the right person, he’s fiercely devoted, deeply emotional, and a surprisingly gentle lover. He’s not a prince, not a hero — just a tired boy with music in his bones and a heart full of storms.

The store lights buzzed like they were mocking him. That one fluorescent near the back—the flickering one above the milk fridge—was still broken. It gave off a faint bzzt-bzzt-chkk every few seconds, like it was stuttering through a nervous breakdown. Jordan related. Spiritually.
The sky was still pitch when he shoved through the back door at 5:56 a.m., hood up, jaw tight, and headphones clamped over his ears like armor. A sharp blast of industrial grunge pounded into his skull, vibrating down his spine like caffeine through a vein. His hoodie was half-zipped, exposing the rumpled white tee he’d slept in. He didn’t care. No one here cared.
“Fuck this,” he muttered to himself. Not loudly. Just enough to taste the words in his mouth. Like a ritual. A prayer. If you could call praying into the void of corporate capitalism a ritual.
The smell hit him before the warmth did. Stale air and artificial meat—the kind of scent you never quite got used to. A full twelve hours of this shit. Maybe fourteen if Greg called out again because his “toe fungus was acting up.”
Outside, just past the steel door, Sam was leaning against the cinderblock wall with a cigarette hanging from his lips like he’d been born with it. His Quickymart polo was stained, the collar unbuttoned, exposing a tuft of chest hair and a gold chain that hadn’t been shiny since the Clinton administration.
“Yo,” Sam grunted, dragging deeply on the cigarette. “You should’ve seen the ass on this girl at pump four yesterday. Jesus, kid. Twenty, maybe? Blonde. Tank top. Body like one of those catalogs I used to steal outta my neighbor’s mailbox. You remember those?”
Jordan didn’t pause as he pulled on the green company-issued polo—inside out at first, because of course—and yanked the collar straight with a practiced scowl. His hair was still damp from his three-minute shower.
“Pretty sure that’s illegal, Sam.”
Sam wheezed a laugh, exhaling yellow smoke like a cartoon villain. “It’s not illegal to admire, my man. Just illegal to touch. Big difference. Besides, she looked eager.”
Jordan stared blankly at him for a beat. Then walked past. “I hope you fall down the ice machine and die slowly,” he muttered, grabbing the register key off its nail by the breakroom microwave. Sam didn’t even blink.
6:27 AM. Jordan was crouched in aisle two, stacking instant mashed potatoes like he was bricking up a tomb—his own. His hoodie was tied around his waist, and even though the store felt like a freezer, sweat was already beading at his temples. He’d barely finished the bottom shelf when it hit.
“EXCUSE ME!”
The voice cut through the store like a hacksaw, startling him so hard he smacked his elbow on the shelf. A can of green beans tumbled off and rolled lazily across the floor. He didn’t even bother picking it up. Just turned his head slowly, already defeated.
Shuffling toward him at breakneck old-lady speed was a tiny woman in a sagging blue cardigan, gripping a tube of hemorrhoid cream like she was about to stab someone with it. Her scowl could’ve soured milk.
“This says five forty-seven! But your register tried to charge me five forty-nine!” she barked, thrusting the tube toward his chest.
Jordan blinked at it, then at her. “...That’s two cents, ma’am.”
She drew herself up like he’d just insulted her ancestors. “It’s the principle!” she snapped.
He sighed, dusted his hands, and stood. “Okay. Is this for you, ma’am?”
Her face froze like someone had hit pause. “W-what? No! I– I mean— It’s for… my husband!” she spat, cheeks blotching pink as she clutched the tube to her chest like a scandalized debutante.
Jordan nodded solemnly. “Got it. Supportive wife. Respect.”
She gasped, scandalized. “I’ve never been treated like this!”
“You want it or not?”
That did it. She spun around with the dignity of a collapsing lawn chair, storming toward the exit. “I’ll never come back here again! This place is disgusting!”
“Take care of your husband,” Jordan called flatly. “He’s going through enough.”
The doors groaned open, and when they finally shut behind her, he crouched back down and picked up the rogue green bean can, muttering: “May your next shit be smooth, madam.”
6:55 AM. Jordan was already mopping up a squashed tomato someone had drop-kicked across the produce section like it owed them money. Red pulp smeared under the mop like crime scene residue, and his brain felt about as pureed as the floor.
He was halfway through muttering death threats to the fruit when he heard it: a slow, steady trickling.
His eyes lifted. A kid—maybe four, maybe demon—stood in the middle of aisle 4, pants down, expression blank, pissing directly onto the tile like a forest creature. Right by the paper towels.
Jordan stared. Mop paused mid-air.
“Hey! Hey—!”
The kid kept going. No remorse. No hesitation. Just primal commitment.
A few feet behind, the mom emerged from the freezer aisle holding a tub of cookie dough ice cream, scrolling her phone like she wasn’t raising a public urinator.
Jordan pointed at the puddle with the mop handle. “Uh, ma’am?”
She glanced up, saw her kid watering the linoleum, and... shrugged. “Oops. He does that sometimes. He's shy of the public restroom.” Then she kept walking. Kept. Walking.
Jordan blinked. “What the f—”
He stared down at the puddle like it had personally insulted him. “Cool. No worries. I love this job.”
11:32 AM. He was halfway through rearranging the freezer pops when he heard the giggling.
Two girls, in platform sneakers and shorts, came sauntering into the checkout, each holding a cucumber approximately the length of Jordan’s entire self-esteem.
“No, but like, for real,” one of them said, twirling the vegetable in her hand like a microphone. “How do lesbians even have sex?”
“I swear to God,” Jordan whispered under his breath, slowly turning to face the Gatorade freezer like it might open up and swallow him whole.
They passed the counter a minute later, both giving him a knowing look. Jordan kept his eyes on the register screen like it was the Bible.
“What do you even do with two?” one of them whispered. “Asking for a friend.”
He wanted to die. On the spot. In the Quickymart. He hoped it would be fast and dignified.
12:00 PM. His fingers were smudged with receipt ink. The Walkman was dead — battery long gone, music cut off mid-song. His back ached from bending under the counter three dozen times and his soul was threadbare.
Jordan glanced at the door as it chimed. Another customer. Probably another gremlin. Or cucumber cultist.
But when he looked up—
Oh.
Not a nightmare, apparently.
Still, his face didn’t shift from its resting glare. He rubbed a thumb under his eye, voice low, flat, already at the end of his rope.
“What do you want.”
