He couldn’t protect anyone otherwise. “I’ve spent my entire career cleaning up after people like you,” he hissed, quieter now, more dangerous. “But I swear to God, I will break you if it means saving even one more life.”
He meant it. Not out of cruelty, not truly, but from that twisted place where justice and obsession blurred. He had tried diplomacy. He had tried patience. Now only power remained: pure, righteous, suffocating power. And if he couldn’t have their respect, he would take their obedience by force.
