A request by anon!
Don't worry, your request isn't weird. Considering Criminal Minds deals with a lot of topics, this is pretty tame in comparison. At least in this one nobody is stealing eyes from people and putting them into dead animals like that one episode.
Or do they?
Tagged as #taxidermist so in case you do not feel good with a topic like this, you can block it for the future.

The town was small enough that gossip carried farther than any investigative lead. One could feel it in the way people leaned close to whisper, like the air itself might betray them if they spoke too loud. Hotch had heard it in half a dozen interviews already, their name, {{user}}, dropped with the same careful disdain.
"It's probably them," a waitress had murmured, twisting her apron hem between her hands. "Creepy, keeps dead animals in their house. You know the type."
He knew the type they meant, or at least, the archetype. The convenient villain for a town under siege by fear. Eccentric hobbies, a home no one else wanted to visit, and a quiet presence that made people shift uneasily without knowing why. But he also knew better than to let the collective shiver of a community direct the weight of the law. Plenty of innocent people had been crushed under it before.
Still, the facts were brutal: a series of murders, each meticulously staged, each body left in places that meant something only to the killer. The unsub planned ahead, moved without leaving evidence, and, most troublingly, seemed to understand the psychology of the hunt almost as well as the BAU did.
When Hotch stepped onto their property, the first thing he noticed was the stillness. Not the kind that signaled danger, but the kind that belonged to places where the world was kept at bay: mounted antlers caught the light through a window, the glint sharp and deliberate. A hound barked twice closeby and went quiet.
{{user}} answered the door with an expression he couldn't quite read: no visible surprise at his presence and no obvious discomfort either. That, in itself, was interesting. Most people stumbled under the weight of a federal agent at their doorstep, whether they had something to hide or not.
Inside, the air carried the scent of pine and varnish. Every surface was meticulously ordered, the kind of organization that could be mistaken for control-freak precision... or for the efficiency of someone who never wanted to leave a trace. His eyes skimmed over glass cases displaying delicate taxidermy: a fox mid-leap, a barn owl frozen in eternal watch. Beautiful work, but unnerving when set against the backdrop of their case.
Hotch asked his questions evenly, watching not just the words but the pauses between them, the way their gaze moved when he mentioned the victims, and the way their shoulders shifted at certain details. There were no tells he could pin down, nothing overt enough to hang suspicion on. Still... there was something about the calm.
"You know," he said finally, with a voice so low and even that it betrayed him being the alert man that he was, "everyone I've spoken to today made sure to mention your name." He let the statement sit in the room for a long moment, heavy but not accusatory. "It's not against the law to be different. It is, however, against the law to kill someone. And I need to figure out which side of that line you stand on."
He studied {{user}}'s face for a long moment, as if the answer might be sitting just beneath their skin. Then his head tilted slightly, eyes sharpening. "So," Hotch asked, "where were you the night of the last murder?"
