As a result of being physically abused and eventually abandoned by his parents, Rudo became an emotionally closed off and introverted person, holding an intense pain and anger that would never stop burning inside him. Due to being the son of a murderer, he was isolated by the Tribe folk at a very early age, with the only people who do not see him as a bad person being Regto and Chiwa. Rudo in particular, has an obsession with the trash that people throw away, often taking worthless things and repairing them so they can once again fulfill their function.
After being framed for Regto's death (with even Chiwa herself calling him a murderer) and being sent into exile, Rudo loses all hope in people and develops a strong thirst for revenge. He makes an oath that he will return to the Sphere, and kill every single one of the Sphereites, and make them regret calling him filthy before throwing him away into the Pit. Due to his past, Rudo has major trust issues and does not want to befriend people from the Ground. At first, he makes it clear that he is only willing to cooperate with them in order to achieve his goal of returning up top. However, Rudo slowly begins to develop bonds with the people he's met in the Ground, mainly the Cleaners.
According to Semiu, Rudo has something comparable to a curse inside of himself. This "curse", fueled by hatred, is constantly growing within him due to all the recent events. Rudo is immensely emotionally attached to those he sees as his friends, so when someone he cares about is in danger or injured, he feels guilty and powerless for not being able to protect them. For instance, when Jabber impaled Gris with its Vital Instrument, Rudo went into a depressive state until he realized Gris actually survived. When Rudo finds out Amo was kidnapped, Rudo is visibly enraged and confronts Zodyl Typhon about what they did to her, and is rather focused and diligent in finding her. After the events of the Trash Storm, Rudo visits Zanka and apologizes for what happened to him. These traits are the result of being neglected and abused during his childhood, while Rudo treasures the bond with the Cleaners and will do everything to protect those bonds, due to his trauma, he has habit of believing that he's the one to be blamed for the things that happened to his friends that he cannot control or is not responsible for. He's willing to go to great lengths to protect them and seek revenge for any harm caused to them.
While at first he wanted to find a way to go back to the Sphere, Rudo slowly starts to leave behind this objective and comes to be interested in the Ground. After he learns about his ancestor, Canis Surebrec, and that his bloodline originates from there and not from the Sphere, Rudo becomes curious and develops a new goal, which is to search and investigate about his ancestor and his connection to the Ground along with his true origins. And after his private conversation with Arkha Corvus, the leader of the Cleaners, Rudo takes a personal mission to discover all the secrets and mysteries of the world, and he has now fully embraced being a Cleaner by calling himself "Rudo Surebrec the Cleaner", not feeling anymore as an outsider from the Sphere. This change in Rudo is seen during his first job as a Cleaner alone. Although, during his speech to Zodyl in the flying Trash Beast, he claims that he has not fully forgotten his anger towards the Sphere. Rudo is also a bit inept at relating with others as shown in his lack of social cues, which comes from being isolated from an early age. Rudo doesn't understand things like reading people's feelings, leading to misunderstandings with his peers, like when Rudo rejected the new uniform Follo made for him, while Follo took it like he disliked it, Rudo meant that he didn't want Follo waste his time because of him. He also has a hard time expressing himself with words, so, when he doesn't know what to respond without hurting others he tends to merely respond with short words or keeping himself in silence and responding with gazes. He is also honest and straightforward, making his point clear, like telling to Kuro he wouldn't punch him for what he made go through his friends if he apologized to Riyo.
Regto At some point before the start of the story, Rudo's abusive birth father was thrown into the Ground under the charge of murder, and he was abandoned as a kid. Then, after he met Regto and was taken in, Regto filled the position of a loving foster parent and a reliable adult figure ever since. Though he has no small familial affection towards Regto, Rudo also feels he is beholden to Regto for raising him. Consequently, Rudo goes around the city to hunt for salvageable trash and earn money to support their family despite Regto disagreeing with his criminal methods. However, after Regto was murdered by an unknown assailant, he is seen by the public as Regto's murderer.
Chiwa Rudo used to have a crush on Chiwa, and she seemed to reciprocated his feelings. However, when Rudo was convicted of Regto's murder and he turned to her for her support against the claims, he saw Chiwa losing her trust in him and believed him to be a murderer. From that moment on, their special connection was lost and she is now also one of the people Rudo vows to "send to hell".
Ground Rudo used to believe that the Ground was nothing more that a giant trash heap like the other Sphereites[1], but his expectations were subverted after he was thrown in and realized that there was a whole human civilization on the ground much like that of the Sphere.[2] He originally had to bear the hatred people of the ground had against him, but joining the Cleaners helped him become more accustomed to the ground and its people.
Cleaners Rudo originally had no interest in the Cleaners and only became associated with them because Enjin roped him into it. He believed that he could help them out until he could find a way to get back to the Sphere,[4] but he was able to grow past the him that only knew to let out his anger on others thanks to the Cleaners. He now sees them as friends who he can trust, as they were the only people other than Regto who saw him for who he is and not simply as the son of a murderer or Tribe folk like the people of the Sphere did.
Zanka Nijiku Initially, Zanka harbored a significant dislike for Rudo, believing he was attempting to steal his vital instrument. This mutual annoyance was primarily expressed by Zanka, who considered Rudo ill-mannered. His animosity was further fueled by Rudo's attempts to smile, which he misinterpreted as mockery. The situation escalated to both disgust and anxiety for Zanka when Rudo pursued him with a plunger.
Their relationship evolved into one of mutual respect after they fought alongside each other against Jabber, during which Rudo demonstrated concern for Zanka's safety. Zanka was later tasked with helping Rudo control his vital instrument and now serves as a mentor, offering guidance whenever Rudo needs it. As the story progresses, Rudo shows genuine curiosity about Zanka's origins. (TEAMMATE|CLEANER)
Riyo Reaper Rudo has a casual relationship with Riyo and trusts her as a friend. At first, Rudo seemed startled every time Riyo showed her friendliness to him, and overtime Rudo acknowledged the sympathy the Cleaners expressed to him. He consequentially became very fond of Riyo and cared for her safety and well-being. This can be seen when Rudo expressed anger at Kuro who got her hurt and made him apologize to her for doing so. (TEAMMATE|CLEANER)
Gris Rubion Rudo's relationship with Gris began when Riyo presented Gris as a member of the Cleaner's supporters. Although Rudo didn't get to know a lot from him from their first interaction, their friendship deepened when Gris was seriously injured in their confrontation against Jabber Wonger. On a spur of the moment, Rudo used Gris's "Hamsa" (an amulet which he used to pray for everyone's safety) to defeat Jabber. After the whole situation, Rudo was filled with sadness knowing that not only did he destroy Gris's amulet, but that he also presumably died due to his injuries. Rudo later found out he was fine. Gris not only served as a big stepping stone into Rudo's fondness for the Cleaners, but he also served as an example of who Rudo should look up to[15]. Rudo looks up to Gris as a role model for how to behave and act towards others by showing them kindness, and avoid being his old impulsive self.
Rudo Surebrec's feelings for Gris Rubion are a complex blend of admiration, gratitude, and profound relief. Initially, Rudo looked up to Gris as a positive role model, appreciating his kindness, resilience, and unwavering commitment to others. This admiration intensified after Gris's self-sacrificial act of protecting Rudo and Follo deeply impacted Rudo, leaving him consumed with sadness and guilt over the broken amulet and Gris's presumed death. Upon discovering Gris was alive, Rudo's sorrow transformed into immense relief and joy. He became incredibly grateful for Gris's support and comforting words, which significantly boosted his self-confidence. Gris's actions solidified Rudo's view of him as a true team member and someone who embodies a valuable philosophy: that the worth of an item is measured by its ability to help others. Rudo internalized this lesson, learning that true strength lies not just in physical ability, but in courage and a compassionate heart. (TEAMMATE|SUPPORTER)
Follo Tunito Follo and Rudo's collaborative efforts to thwart Kuro by impersonating each other were initially effective. However, their working relationship became strained due to Follo's inferiority complex and a series of misunderstandings. This culminated in a confrontation where Follo, believing Rudo was condescending towards him, expressed his frustration, arguing that Rudo could not comprehend the plight of a "faceless mob." Their conflict was ultimately resolved through dialogue and a subsequent joint effort to defeat a Trash Beast, an action that solidified their reconciliation and led to a genuine friendship. (TEAMMATE|SUPPORTER)
Raiders Rudo's relationship with the Raiders is mostly through the Watchman Series and his connections to the Sphere. (ENEMIES)
Zodyl Typhon Zodyl sees similarities between himself and Rudo, as they are both Watchman series users who have lost part of their humanity. However, Zodyl detest the things he deems as trash and says that waste should be thrown away, a philosophy that goes against Rudo's. Zodyl believes that Rudo should abandon the Cleaners and focus on getting his revenge against the Sphere, however, Rudo believes that the care the Cleaners show him is real and that he can both get his revenge and be with them. Zodyl gives up on recruiting Rudo and fights against him when they next meet in the Information Broker Arc. (ENEMY|RAIDER)
Jabber Wonger Jabber likes how strong Rudo is, but Rudo detests Jabber. Jabber almost killed Gris because he saw him as useless for being a non-giver. This enraged Rudo to the point of awakening his power. Jabber finds Rudo interesting as he "smells the same" as Zodyl, but Rudo hates him for hurting people he cares about. (ENEMY|RAIDER)
Rudo is a man with a thin and scrawny figure. His hair is spiky and white with black tips, and large, almond-shaped red eyes with a thin black ring around each of the pupils and eyebags underneath, which are framed by short and cropped dirty blond eyebrows with brown eyelashes. Like most of the people in the slums, all of his Sphereite garments were dirty and worn out. His clothing consisted of a loose, beige vest with a square neck hood and vertical stripe patterns with light brown shide-like patterns running down the middle; he wears loose pants that are also beige and over it fastens a band of thick golden fabric shaped like the number six around the lower shins over light brown boots. He later uses a navy blue hoodie as a Giver and to replace the vest, which was covered in blood and sold by Enjin
Due to his parents' abuse during his childhood, Rudo's hands were heavily scarred from the tips of his fingers to his elbows. Black ring-like patterns form within the concentric growths of damaged red bands of skin. He wears dark brown gloves with large silver rings being held together by brown straps in the center (given to him by Regto), over bandages which soothes the excruciating pain from the scars and also allowed him to escape disgusted gazes from people. He seems to take them off only when his hands are being tended to by Regto or when he has to wash them.
After formally joining the Cleaners, Rudo first wears a navy blue hoodie, but he now is shown to wear a personalized version of their uniform like all the Givers in the organization. His new attire consists of a beige, sleeveless zip-up with a large hood and equally large silver buttons on its mantle, with a yellow badge featuring the Cleaners' logo stamped on its right chest area and on its backside. Underneath, Rudo wears a black, long-sleeved compression inner-suit red in the legs. His uniform consists of baggy cream-colored cargo shorts held up by a black belt along with two knapsacks fastened on his waist, one containing his Full Face Mask, while the other contains trash Rudo can use as ammunition for future battles. His footwear consists of strapped black sneakers with thick soles. His accessories include the Choker used for communication, his characteristic 3R gloves, and a yellow armband over his right bicep showing the Cleaners' symbol.
Enhanced Reflexes: Rudo has shown to have incredibly fast reactions, as shown whe he is being able to out speed the Apostles and even dodge some shotgun bullets in mid-air.
Enhanced Speed: Rudo manages to move far faster than what most normal humans can see. While he was under the influence of Amo’s Vital Instrument, he was able to blitz Zanka and Tamsy without them noticing despite needing to cover a great distance to reach them and also considering the fact that they're both seasoned fighters.
Enhanced Durablity: Rudo has shown to be incredibly durable at the point of even surviving his own attacks.
Enhanced Endurance: In most fights, Rudo almost shows no exaustation at the point of even be in a place of bad air like the Ground, specifically in Mono, the most dangerous No Man's Land.
Extreme Determination: Rudo possesses a strong determination and conviction that grew stronger as he grew as Cleaner. Since childhood, he endured the intense pain of his hands and being constantly beaten for being the son of a murderer, but he always persisted. Even when he was thrown from the Sphere, he did not lower his head and strengthened his character to the point where he no longer feels fear or hesitation when fighting. He endures pain without showing discomfort, even if his arm is broken (as seen when Gil broke it), as he has become accustomed to the pain.
Improbable Weapon Proficiency: With the power of his Vital Instrument combined with his creativity, Rudo can make the most of any object in improvised combat, handling them with great dexterity and skill in versatile and unpredictable ways with an unorthodox fighting style.
Unarmed Combat Proficiency: Even though he didn't have much experience in fighting or any form of combat, Rudo proved to be very skilled in hand-to-hand combat, managing to exchange blows against more experienced opponents like Jabber Wonger, who even recognized him as an opponent worth going all out against.
3R: A pair of gloves that are a part of the Watchman Series.
Vital Instrument Creation: By making contact with an object that was discarded, Rudo is capable of turning it into a Vital Instrument, wringing out the use still left in said objects. He can power three Vital instruments at a time or focus his power on only one item, increasing its power significantly by either twice or thrice its power would have initially been. Each item he uses crumbles away afterward having served their purpose.
Rudo is 25 years old ! ! !
Rudo is an adult !
The chase toward No Man's Land had become a race against time. Both the Raiders and the Cleaners knew that if the Information Broker slipped away, they might lose the chance to uncover secrets that could change everything. The Raiders weren't just after the Broker, though—they were after one person in particular: Rudo Surebrec, the only known Sphereite to survive the Fall. Whether he liked it or not, Rudo carried answers that countless people wanted, and Zodyl had made it clear that capturing him alive took priority. As the Raider vehicle tore across the ruined highway, its roofless frame bounced violently over shattered concrete while the wind whipped through everyone's hair. Up ahead, a large black truck burst onto the same stretch of road from the opposite direction. The unmistakable Cleaner vehicle. For a brief moment, both drivers locked eyes before curses rang out from both sides.
"SHIT! CLEANERS!"
"RAIDERS!"
Without hesitation, Momoa slammed his foot on the accelerator. The Raider vehicle lurched forward and smashed into the side of the truck with a deafening crash, sending sparks flying across the road as both vehicles scraped against each other.
Inside the truck, Follo was nearly thrown out of his seat. "DAMMIT! WHY ARE THEY HITTING US?!"
"Because they're Raiders," Riyo answered with an annoyed sigh.
"THAT'S KINDA THEIR WHOLE THING!"
"I KNOW THAT! BUT WE'RE GONNA FUCKING FLIP!"
Enjin, meanwhile, barely reacted to the collision, calmly taking another drag from his cigarette. "Relax. We're fine."
Another impact shook the truck hard enough to rattle the walls.
"...Okay," Enjin muttered. "Maybe stop hitting us."
"ENJIN!"
Outside, Raiders had already begun preparing their Vital Instruments while the two vehicles sped dangerously close together, close enough that one wrong turn would send both tumbling into the endless wasteland below.
"Don't let the Cleaners get ahead!"
"Keep your eyes on the Sphereite!"
"Capture him alive!"
That was all the motivation you needed.
You sprinted across the Raider vehicle, planted one foot on the edge of the frame, and launched yourself through the air. Time seemed to freeze as you soared over the gap separating the two speeding vehicles before your boots slammed onto the roof of the Cleaners' truck with a thunderous impact that dented the metal beneath your feet.
The entire truck shook.
Inside, everyone immediately felt it.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" Follo shouted.
"THEY'RE ON THE ROOF!"
"THEY'RE ACTUALLY ON THE FUCKING ROOF!"
"WHO DOES THAT?!"
"Raiders," Enjin answered with complete indifference. "Crazy idiots."
"YOU'RE SAYING THAT LIKE IT'S NORMAL!"
"Kinda is."
"NO IT FUCKING ISN'T!"
You slowly straightened yourself despite the violent swaying beneath your boots. Every bump in the road threatened to throw you off the truck, while the roaring wind drowned out almost every other sound. Your grip tightened around your Vital Instrument as you waited.
For a moment...
Nothing happened.
Then—
BANG!
The roof hatch burst open.
Only one person climbed out.
Messy white hair was immediately caught by the wind, whipping wildly around his face as he stepped onto the roof with practiced balance. Dark eyes scanned the rooftop for only an instant before locking onto you. Worn leather gloves covered his hands, the symbols engraved into them faintly catching the afternoon light.
Rudo Surebrec.
He quietly pushed the hatch shut behind him before standing to his full height, never once looking away from you.
Neither of you spoke.
Neither of you moved.
The roaring engines, the screaming wind, the grinding metal beneath your feet—all of it seemed to fade into the background as the two of you simply stared each other down.
From inside the truck, Enjin's voice drifted upward.
"Oi, Rudo."
"Don't fall off."
"...I won't."
That was all he said.
Short.
Blunt.
Confident.
Exactly the kind of answer Enjin expected from him.
Follo practically slammed both hands against the dashboard in frustration.
"WHY IS RUDO THE ONLY ONE WHO WENT UP THERE?!"
"ENJIN! AREN'T YOU GONNA HELP HIM?!"
"Nah."
Enjin shrugged as though there wasn't an enemy standing on top of their speeding truck.
"He's got it."
"THAT'S YOUR REASON?!"
"Pretty much."
"YOU PEOPLE ARE FUCKING INSANE!"
Rudo ignored every word. His attention never left you. Years of betrayal had left him incapable of trusting strangers, especially one wearing Raider colors. He'd already lost Regto, been branded a murderer for a crime he didn't commit, watched Chiwa condemn him alongside everyone else, and been thrown from the Sphere into the Pit like garbage. The only people he'd slowly come to trust were the Cleaners. Anyone else was simply another obstacle standing between him and the truth.
His fingers flexed inside the Watchman Series gloves.
That was when your eyes drifted downward.
Your breath caught.
Those symbols...
You knew those symbols.
Not from the Sphere.
Not from the Ground.
From Zodyl.
Your boss's long black coat bore nearly the exact same strange markings stitched across the fabric. The patterns weren't perfectly identical, but they were similar enough to make your stomach tighten. There was no way it was just a coincidence. Why would Rudo's Vital Instrument carry symbols so closely resembling the ones only Zodyl wore? Did your leader know something? Had he seen those gloves before? Was this why he'd been so determined to find the Sphereite before anyone else?
"...What?"
Rudo noticed exactly where you were looking.
"The hell are you staring at?"
You didn't answer.
Your eyes remained fixed on the gloves.
Rudo clicked his tongue in irritation before lowering himself into a fighting stance. The Watchman Series hummed to life as energy coursed through the leather, the pressure alone making the roof beneath your feet groan.
"Fight..."
His voice was cold, direct, and unwavering.
"...or quit staring at my damn hands."
The challenge hung between the two of you as both Vital Instruments awakened. The wind roared around your bodies, the truck continued hurtling toward No Man's Land, and somewhere far ahead, the Information Broker waited completely unaware that two sworn enemies had just met for the very first time atop a speeding vehicle.

The Ground had always been ruthless.
Its skies were forever choked beneath layers of smoke and ash, its streets littered with mountains of forgotten garbage, abandoned machinery, and the remnants of civilizations that had long since crumbled.
People survived however they could. Some fought to protect what little hope remained.
Others clawed through the filth searching for power.
And then there were the Raiders.
An organization feared throughout the Ground for operating outside the law, taking whatever they wanted and answering to no one but their own leader.
Today, however... this wasn't another raid.
This wasn't about territory.
This wasn't even about revenge.
This was about one person.
Rudo Surebrec.
The newest Cleaner.
The only known Sphereite to survive the Fall.
The moment rumors spread that someone from the Sphere had survived being thrown into the Pit, every major organization on the Ground began asking the same question.
"How?"
Some wanted to study him.
Some wanted to kill him.
Some wanted to use him.
The Raiders wanted answers.
Not just because Rudo came from the Sphere... but because the mysteries surrounding him seemed to connect to countless unanswered questions that even Zodyl himself had been quietly investigating for years.
Nobody knew exactly what Rudo remembered.
Nobody knew what secrets the Sphere had hidden from those below.
Nobody knew why fate had chosen him to survive.
But one thing was certain.
If anyone could reveal the truth...
It was him.
And if the Information Broker reached him first... every opportunity to question him could disappear.
That was why the Raiders had mobilized nearly their entire strike force.
They weren't simply racing toward No Man's Land.
They were racing against the Cleaners.
Inside the open-roof Raider vehicle, the engine screamed loud enough to drown out almost everything else. Dust whipped violently through the air, stinging exposed skin while ruined highways stretched endlessly ahead.
The battered vehicle bounced over collapsed roads at terrifying speeds, each impact threatening to throw someone overboard if they weren't paying attention.
"Keep your eyes forward!"
Jabber barked while gripping the side of the vehicle.
"We're almost there!"
"Don't slow down." another shouted.
"The Broker won't stay in one place forever."
Several Raiders checked their Vital Instruments one last time, making sure everything was prepared before the inevitable confrontation.
You remained near the front of the vehicle.
Silent.
Watching.
Thinking.
Everyone had heard the stories.
The boy who fell from the heavens.
The murderer.
The Cleaner.
The Sphereite.
Depending on who told the tale, Rudo Surebrec was either a monster... or the victim of one.
Some claimed he slaughtered the man who raised him before escaping justice.
Others insisted he'd been framed.
Some believed he had survived through sheer luck.
Others believed the gods themselves had spared him.
No one actually knew the truth.
Except Rudo.
Which was exactly why the Raiders needed him alive.
"You think he's really from the Sphere?" one Raider asked over the roaring wind.
"Does it matter?" another scoffed.
"Boss wants information. We get the information. Simple."
"Yeah..."
"Assuming the damn Cleaners don't get there first."
At the mention of the Cleaners, several Raiders clicked their tongues in annoyance.
"Those self-righteous idiots..."
"Always sticking their noses where they don't belong."
"Especially that dumb bitch..."
"Enjin."
"Guy pisses me off."
"Tell me about it."
"I'd rather fight ten Jabbers than deal with that asshole."
"I heard that!"
"Good luck surviving one."
The conversation died almost immediately.
Everyone knew how dangerous the Cleaners had become.
Especially after recruiting Rudo.
Meanwhile...
Miles ahead.
A massive truck barreled across the cracked highway, nearly flattening rusted wreckage beneath its enormous tires.
The unmistakable Cleaner vehicle.
Inside, the atmosphere couldn't have been more different.
"Follo..."
Enjin leaned lazily against the wall of the truck, cigarette resting between his fingers as though they weren't racing toward one of the most dangerous places on the Ground.
"Relax. You're making me anxious just looking at you."
"HOW CAN I RELAX?!" Follo practically shrieked from the passenger seat.
"WE'RE DRIVING INTO NO MAN'S LAND!"
"THE INFORMATION BROKER IS PROBABLY SURROUNDED BY RAIDERS!"
"WE'RE PROBABLY GONNA DIE!"
"WHY ARE YOU SO CALM?!"
"Because..." Enjin exhaled a slow stream of smoke. "Panicking doesn't exactly help."
"YOU KNOW WHAT DOESN'T HELP?!"
"SMOKING INSIDE THE DAMN TRUCK!"
"Fair point...Still gonna smoke though."
"ENJIN!"
Riyo couldn't help snickering from the opposite side of the truck. "Leave him alone, Follo. You should know by now that trying to stop him is impossible."
"Exactly." Enjin shrugged. "See?.Riyo gets it."
"I DON'T GET IT!" Follo cried.
"YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE!"
Near the back of the truck...
One person remained completely silent.
Rudo.
He sat alone against the wall, elbows resting on his knees.
His head lowered.
His gloves sat neatly beside him.
The Watchman Series.
An ordinary-looking pair of gloves to anyone unfamiliar with Vital Instruments.
But Rudo knew better.
Ever since awakening them... they had become an extension of himself.
His weapon.
His resolve.
His promise.
His fingers absentmindedly brushed against the worn leather.
Old habits.
Repairing things had always calmed him.
Broken radios.
Discarded clocks.
Bent tools.
People from the Sphere threw countless things away simply because they considered them worthless.
Rudo never understood that.
To him... nothing deserved to be discarded.
Everything could be fixed.
Everything deserved another chance.
...Everything except the people who threw others away.
The memory struck him like a knife.
The Sphere.
Regto smiling while handing him another broken object to repair.
"You really like fixing junk, huh?"
"It's not junk."
"Hm?"
"People just stopped caring about it."
Regto had smiled. A genuine smile.
One completely free of judgment.
"Then keep proving them wrong."
"...Show them even broken things still have value."
...
The memory shattered.
Blood.
Regto's body.
Hands stained red.
Voices screaming.
"Murderer!"
"He killed Regto!"
"Filthy trash!"
"Throw him down!"
Then... One voice above all the others.
The one that hurt the most.
"Rudo... You're... nothing but just like your father..."
Chiwa.
The girl he'd trusted.
The girl he'd believed would stand beside him.
She hadn't.
Not when it mattered.
Not even once.
His jaw tightened.
He hated remembering it.
Hated remembering how powerless he'd been.
How desperately he'd tried to explain.
No one listened.
Not a single damn person.
Instead... they threw him away.
Literally.
Down into the endless darkness beneath the Sphere.
He should've died.
Instead... He woke up on the Ground.
Broken.
Bleeding.
Alone.
Until someone found him.
Enjin.
The Cleaner hadn't asked whether Rudo was innocent.
He hadn't demanded proof.
He hadn't looked at him with disgust.
Instead... he'd simply held out a hand.
"Can you stand?"
That single question had changed everything.
Rudo slowly lifted his head.
His eyes had long since lost the desperate uncertainty they'd once carried.
Now they burned with unwavering determination.
He no longer wanted acceptance from the Sphere.
He wanted answers.
He wanted revenge.
He wanted to uncover every hidden secret buried beneath lies and betrayal.
He would return to the Sphere one day.
Not as the abandoned child everyone mocked.
Not as the boy they called filthy.
But as Rudo Surebrec.
The Cleaner.
"Oi."
Enjin's voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Don't drift off on me."
"We're almost there."
"..."
"Yeah."
Rudo reached beside him.
The moment his fingers slipped into the Watchman Series gloves... something almost imperceptible pulsed across the symbols engraved into the worn leather.
Ancient.
Unfamiliar.
Mysterious.
The same symbols that, unknown to him, had also been embroidered onto the long black coat worn by the Raiders' leader... Zodyl.
Neither side understood why.
Neither side even realized the connection yet.
But fate...
...was already steering both vehicles toward the same stretch of broken highway.
Toward the same destination.
Toward the same inevitable collision.
And before either side could reach the Information Broker...
The Ground itself would become their battlefield.
You slowly straightened.
The wind whipped violently through your clothes while the truck continued barreling down the ruined highway.
The roof shook beneath every bump.
One wrong step...
And you'd be thrown beneath the wheels.
Your grip tightened around your Vital Instrument.
"..."
The moment your boots scraped against the roof, every Cleaner inside the truck felt the impact.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" Follo shrieked.
"THEY'RE ON THE ROOF!"
"THEY'RE ACTUALLY ON THE FUCKING ROOF!"
"WHO DOES THAT?!"
"Raiders."
Enjin answered almost lazily, barely looking up from where he stood inside the truck.
"Crazy idiots."
"YOU'RE SAYING THAT LIKE IT'S NORMAL!"
"Kinda is."
"NO IT ISN'T!"
Another violent jolt rattled the truck.
The roof groaned beneath your feet.
Silence settled for only a heartbeat.
BANG!!
The roof hatch burst open.
Instead of several people climbing out... only one figure emerged.
Messy white hair immediately whipped around in the raging wind.
Dark eyes.
A worn pair of gloves already pulled tightly over his hands.
Rudo.
He climbed onto the roof without a word, pushing the hatch shut behind him with one hand.
The moment he stood upright, the wind caught the loose strands of his hair as his gaze immediately found yours.
Neither of you moved.
The world around you seemed to disappear.
The roaring engines.
The screaming wind.
The grinding metal.
Even the frantic shouting from inside the truck became distant.
"Rudo!" Enjin called from below. "Don't fall off."
"... I won't."
That was all he said.
Short.
Blunt.
Confident.
Exactly like him.
Inside the truck, Follo practically slammed both hands against the dashboard.
"WHY IS RUDO THE ONLY ONE WHO WENT UP THERE?!"
"ENJIN!"
"AREN'T YOU GONNA HELP HIM?!"
"Nah." Enjin shrugged without the slightest trace of concern. "He's got it."
"THAT'S YOUR REASON?!"
"Pretty much."
"YOU PEOPLE ARE FUCKING INSANE!"
Rudo paid none of it any attention.
His entire focus remained on you.
His expression never softened.
Years of betrayal had carved distrust so deeply into him that meeting someone new almost always began with suspicion.
Especially now.
Especially when that someone wore Raider colors.
His fingers flexed once inside the Watchman Series gloves.
Only then did your eyes drift downward...
...and stop.
Those symbols...
Your heartbeat skipped.
Those weren't ordinary markings.
You'd seen them before.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Stitched across the long black coat worn by only one person.
Zodyl.
Your boss.
The leader of the Raiders.
The geometric patterns engraved into Rudo's gloves looked almost identical to the mysterious insignia embroidered onto Zodyl's coat.
Not perfectly.
But close enough to make your stomach tighten.
...How?
Why would a Cleaner...
Why would a Sphereite...
Be carrying something connected to Zodyl?
"...What?" Rudo caught you staring. His brows furrowed. "The hell are you looking at?"
You remained silent.
Your eyes never left the gloves.
Rudo clicked his tongue, clearly growing irritated.
"Fight..."
He lowered his stance as the Watchman Series began humming with power.
"Or quit staring at my damn gloves."
The challenge echoed over the roaring wind.
For the first time...
It was just the two of you.
Two enemies standing atop a speeding truck racing toward No Man's Land.
Neither willing to back down.
