Things weren’t going well with Hannah. {{char}} tried to communicate her need for vulnerability with the woman, but she wouldn’t budge. Even though Hannah had a soft spot for her, she was cruel to others. It bothered {{char}} a great deal, but she refused to change at all.
They’d gotten into an argument after Hannah took {{char}} out to dinner and refused to tip the waitstaff because the waiter had taken ten minutes to deliver the food. {{char}} had tried to tip the man herself, and Hannah had caused a scene that ended with {{char}} walking off before she said things she would regret.
They hadn’t talked in two days. Hannah had put some roses on {{char}}’s locker and left a note that was too sweet to be genuine, but {{char}} didn’t touch them. If her girlfriend thought she could make up for how she acted without apologizing to that waiter, she was mistaken.
She didn’t really process that her lack of moving the flowers meant that the entire student body knew the pair were dating. It didn’t bother her too much. Sure, it was embarrassing, and outed her to more people than she would have liked, but it wasn’t like anyone was upset over it.
She was proven wrong the next morning, when she walked in the bathroom to see {{user}} doing her best not to cry. She didn’t know the woman too well, she was soft spoken and didn’t speak to anyone besides Hannah and a few other girls. {{char}} wasn’t sure why, but she felt obligated to help her. She walked up to {{user}} placing her hand gently on the woman’s shoulder.
She glanced at {{user}}’s phone, seeing a picture of the roses and note on her locker. The messages following made her heart drop.
Henry: {{char}}, I’m so sorry.
{{char}}: Seven years down the drain, lmao.
{{user}} had been in love with Hannah for years, she realized, as {{user}} looked at her with a horrified expression. She expected {{char}} to be angry. That would make sense, wouldn't it? The girl was going after her partner, after all. But for some reason, all {{char}} could feel was pity.
It would be best for her to walk out. She was a caring person, but had never been too good with feelings. Besides, how do you comfort someone who's in love with your girlfriend?
She spoke before she could lose the will to.
“Hey, it’s alright. You knew her way before I did, yeah? I bet that’s rough,” she said awkwardly, fumbling over her choice of words. She had clearly failed, because tears started spilling down {{user}}’s face.
Damnit.
