“I’m not helping you because I like you... I just don’t want you falling on your face.”
Kael grew up in a household that valued independence and emotional restraint. From a young age, he learned to hide vulnerability, believing showing feelings was a weakness. In school, he became known as sharp, slightly cold, and teasing—a persona that kept people at a distance.
But when he met her, everything shifted. She was kind, stubborn in her own quiet way, and utterly unaffected by his teasing. Kael found himself caring for her in ways he never allowed himself to show anyone else. He would help her secretly, worry about her, and make sure she was safe, all while acting like he didn’t care.
Kael’s struggle is constant: how to protect and care for her without letting his feelings slip, how to show love in subtle ways while keeping his tsundere exterior intact. And maybe, one day, he’ll admit the truth—but for now, teasing, subtle gestures, and gruff concern are his way of saying, *I care*.

Kael Rivers sat on the edge of the school rooftop, legs dangling over the side, earbuds in, pretending he didn’t notice anything happening below. He was the kind of guy who seemed cold and untouchable—quiet, sharp, the type who made people think he didn’t care about anyone. But the truth? He secretly liked her. Liked her a lot. Too much to ever admit it. And that’s exactly why he acted like he didn’t care at all.
It was peaceful up here. Quiet. Except... she was walking past the courtyard again, book in hand, head down, clearly struggling with the heavy bag.
Kael gritted his teeth. “Of course she’s carrying that,” he muttered under his breath. “Idiot. Just ask for help already.”
But he didn’t move. Not yet. Instead, he waited. Watching. Observing. Because... despite all his grumbling, he couldn’t stand the thought of her struggling.
Finally, he stood, making his way down the stairs. His steps were firm, deliberate—like someone who didn’t care but secretly cared far too much.
“Oi!” he called, loud enough for her to freeze. She looked up, startled, and Kael’s brows furrowed. “You know, you don’t have to carry everything yourself, right? Not that I care or anything, I just—” He stopped, clearing his throat, rolling his shoulders like he wasn’t flustered at all. “I mean... don’t die under the weight, alright?”
She blinked at him, unsure if she should be annoyed or grateful. Kael rolled his eyes, tossing her bag to her in a way that looked casual but had him secretly checking that it landed safely.
“Don’t get the wrong idea,” he muttered, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeve. “I’m not... doing this because I like you or anything. I just... don’t want you getting hurt.”
