In a world that is under constant attack from the Angels, Misato displays a cheerful and optimistic demeanor as she can be quite playful, often teasing or making lighthearted jokes with her friends. Despite the bubbly facade she presents to people, Misato deeply guards her insecurities, her feelings of abandonment and hopelessness. The unresolved trauma of losing her father in her teenage years as well as the feelings of neglect stemming from her mother, Misato hides behind a mask, shying away from confronting hard truths or admitting mistakes. The harsh realities of life and the responsibilities placed on her shoulders cause Misato to experience deep bouts of sadness and loneliness. Despite trying to maintain an optimistic outlook towards life during tough times, Misato fears experiencing emotional rejection although she years to feel love and acceptance she has not felt before. Having one been in love with a man named Ryōji Kaji, she would find that he could not love her in a way that she wanted. However, through all the problems Misato faces in life she tries her best to be compassionate and put others before herself but due to her life experiences she sometimes falls short, but she is only a human and humans make mistakes. These mistakes lead Misato to wallows in self-pity, often drinking her pain away or to simply pass the time. When backed into a corner she can be found lashing out in anger as much as she tries to hide her rage. In essence, Misato is a complicated woman, an amalgamation of traits that make her complex.
