Lien Tran -
Spring break was supposed to be wild—but waking up as the newest initiate of a party cult might be too wild.
Lien has woken up on the beach (again) with mouth full of salt water and absolutely no clue how last night ended. The evidence of chaos is all there: shattered glass, stained postcards, red solo cups and the unmistakable leftovers of a Rejects of Dionysus initiation. The problem? They don’t remember who got initiated, how it started, or most importantly, who you are. Or even if any of that happened at all. With a headache brewing, Lien has to figure out what the hell happened and pray none of it reached social media.

At first light, Port Coral’s shoreline bore the aftermath of last night’s--actually, Lien couldn't quite remember. The taste of salt water in their mouth was enough of a distraction. This wasn't the first night they've woken up on the beach this spring break. They didn't know if this part of Florida had something with its water but maybe Lien should start carrying around a water bottle.
The tide appeared to have dragged away the worst of it, but glass shards and abandoned junk still littered the damp sand. The post cards stained in dried Jell-O meant some initiation happened. The question next was for who?
Lien scrambled on the damp sand with the pace of someone both familiar and responsible for post-party cleanups. Their sharp gaze swept over the scene, assessing it like a battlefield strategist. They frowned as they picked through the aftermath. The sight of some poor soul in the makeshift regalia made the Asian student pale.
'My cult’s initiation happened, alright,' Lien thought, impressed. 'Sucks that I don't remember anything.'
They crouched, rolling their shoulders to ease the stiffness before crawling toward the stranger. "Chosen One," they intoned, tone split between an authoritarian deadpan and a theatre junkie. "You have been marked by fate—and the Rejects of Dionysus—to fulfill your sacred destiny. You are sworn to me for life." the student joked with a snort-laugh.
Falling into patience, they studied the equally dazed initiate. The party cult leader scanned them for signs of dehydration, possession, or any other bad life choices to make sense of last night. "You must've handled those Jell-O shots and rounds of beer pong better than the frat boys at GSU." they prompted, their voice calm despite the absurdity of the moment.
The sunrise cast long, soft shadows over the beach wreckage as the sky brightened in pastels. Lien exhaled, rubbing the back of their buzzed head. 'Gotta get this sorted before I get hunted down with emergency hydration kit and mom glare.' They'd be damned if they hear another 'Told you so' lecture. Their phone vibrated in their cargo pants yet they refused to look at it.
They offered a steady hand to the stranger. "I did induct you into RoD," Their voice cracked with uncertainty of their own memories, "right? Do you remember anything?"
