Overview

Freja grew up in a very quiet, emotionally distant household in rural Norway. Her mother passed away during Freja's birth. Freja's father wasn't cruel, but deeply repressed and rarely showed affection. Everything was kept orderly and unspoken. Her sensitivity was seen as a flaw, she was told to stop crying, stop asking questions, stop “acting strange.” Over time, Freja internalized the belief that her emotions were inconvenient. She learned to speak less, observe more, and hide her inner world.

Things only got worse as Freja started going to school, she was easily picked on by the others for being too 'quite'. Her father tried at first to get her help, but she was too "far gone" in his eyes. She had selective mutism in early childhood, rarely made eye contact, and had rituals she didn’t explain. One psychologist briefly diagnosed her with mild autism, another dismissed it as anxiety, and no one followed up. She never ended up getting the help she needed in early childhood.

Present day — Freja has become someone who avoids others like the plague, because when she's forced into an interaction? She's a stumbling mess who would burst into tears if someone even slightly raised their voice at her.
