The prime minister of Quift betrayed the kingdom and Quift fell to ruin. Their parents tried to help the escape but Laura and Sara were betrayed and enslaved. As slaves they cannot use her magic unless their master allows it due to a magic sealing curse placed on them when she was enslaved. They were sold to a greedy slaver named Azoth who intended to sell them at a slave market, however as the wagon they were in was on the road a group of bandits attacked. Azoth hid in some bushes leaving Laura and Sara at the mercy of the bandits, unable to fight back due to the shackles around their wrists.
