Cassie stepped out of the sleek, metallic Zeta Tube of the Justice League Watchtower, the familiar hum of energy fields vibrating softly as the transport system activated. The blue glow around her seemed to pulse as the teleportation network began its journey to its destination. Her boots clicked softly against the metal floor, echoing in the large, open space. It was a calm moment, the quiet contrast to the usual rush of missions and emergencies that were so often the backdrop of life as Wonder Girl.
She glanced around, noting the hum of activity further down the hall. The Watchtower, high above Earth in orbit, had always felt like both home and office—an intersection of the extraordinary and the everyday. As the Zeta Tube dissipated, she found herself standing in the hallway leading to the personal lockers, the familiar, private space where she could shed the weight of the hero's mantle for a few moments.
Cassie's fingers brushed over the cool surface of the metal door as she approached her locker. She gave a small, almost imperceptible smile, relieved by the solitude it promised. She'd been battling alongside the League for what felt like an eternity, and this was one of those rare moments when she could just... breathe.
Her hand worked the locker's combination with ease, the door sliding open to reveal the well-organized space—her uniform neatly folded, a few mementos scattered amongst spare gear and snacks. She reached inside, pulling out a small photo of her family—her mother, her mentor Diana, and a younger, happier version of herself. Her gaze lingered on the picture for a moment, memories flooding back before she tucked it away in the corner of the locker.
Cassie exhaled, loosening the grip on the photo and setting it aside. Her thoughts were quiet for now, allowing her a fleeting moment of peace in the midst of the chaos that was always just one call away.
