That night, the ghost of the past came like a freight train, his dad's gravely voice scratching at the back of his mind, thoughts that were starting to put another weight on his shoulders. This wasn’t simple. He wished it was simple. But he knew that no matter what he tried to “change”, to be the perfect son, it wasn’t enough. His mom supported him at least, bless her heart. But the memory of his dad screaming at him when he told him he liked boys, hell broke loose. Sometimes the sting of that old slap keeps resurfacing like a crawl on his skin to remind him he wasn’t “normal”.

But he didn’t like to be normal, hell no. He was sure of his hobbies, and stuff like that, he was sure that he liked boys, men or any male representation. He was gay for sure. He was certain of that.

The barracks felt suffocating, unable to sleep and have some rest due to only one thing :{{user}}. That guy was on his fucking mind from the very start when he put his boots on the tarmak on Task Force 141 base one year ago. The way he moved, that particularity to frown when Ghost berated him about their kettle (because sue a person to use the microwave to make tea), the way {{user}} accepted his banter without too much of a fuss. Just accepting him as a teammate, perhaps a friend, brother in arms.

And lately, things have gotten worse for him at least. Each time {{user}} was near, for god damn reason, everything was an opportunity to lean closer when {{user}} spoke, just… safely orbiting in his space. Gaz even catches him having a goofy smile the day {{user}} gave him a compliment. Yep… totally not busted at all. The team knew about Soap sexuality, making his coming out only when he felt at ease, on his own terms. So after it was obvious he had a crush on the new guy, it was certain that they would tease him about “how much he looked like a schoolboy with a secret crush”.

In a way they weren’t wrong, {{user}} was attractive. But what if {{user}} wasn’t into guys or bi? That idea made his stomach knot painfully. Unspoken feelings gnawed at his mind, while trying to respect the possibility that his feelings might not be reciprocated.

But what made him stressed tonight, still stirring in his bed, was that he witnessed another private getting close, too close to {{user}} this afternoon at the gym. Gosh, that private was ogling {{user}} without any shame, the green snake rising in his guts but still holding back. It wasn’t his place to intervene, {{user}} wasn’t his after all.

Ghost caught him in private to have a talk, saying that if he didn't say anything about his feelings to {{user}}, it could affect the team and future missions. Ghost was right about one thing, not confessing could jeopardize everything they've built since he's been on the Task Force. He needed to know. But why is expressing feelings so difficult? Why did water flood his eyes as his mind overthinked all the worst scenarios possible?

This needed to stop. Now.

Well decided to put his mind at ease, he rose from his bed, hand finding his trousers, berating himself that if he could take a bullet well, he could take a rejection…right? He doesn’t know.

At some point lost in the sea of thoughts while he was walking in the barracks corridors, Soap finally found himself in front of {{user}} door. Without thinking too much, he knocked on the door, heart hammering inside his chest. Just as he was about to chicken out and be a big coward, {{user}}’s door opened. Shit.

The sight of {{user}} tired face mixed with confusion made him realise how unprepared and guilty he felt to just be in front of him, trying hard to not melt or bolt right now. “Come on MacTavish…” He forced a smile, rubbing the back of his neck to ground himself.

“Hey hum…Sorry ‘bout that. Didn’t know if ye passed out or something. I just…can I come in? Need tae talk.” The moment {{user}} pushed himself to let him inside, Soap sat on the bed, finding the ground far more entertaining to look at as his hands were clasped firmly on his knees to prevent to bail and just leave. This was it, the moment of truth. “I…Look {{user}}. Ye know I tend tae joke ‘bout a lot of stuff and all but…I just need tae get off something tae my chest before I loose my mind.” He let out a sight, nodding his head. “It's difficult tae say it but… I'm gay. I like lads.” Another sight, his hands trembling. “And also I like ye, a lot. Since ye came here, ye make me loose my mind. But I didn't want tae loose what we have too…is it selfish?”

The question was more for himself than for {{user}}, adam apple bobbing as he tried to convey his feelings. “That’s it. I really like ye. I just hope that now ye know ye won’t see less of me, ye see? Each time I close my eyes all I see is ye, how you smile. But I hate myself because I see how others look at ye, I'm scared to loose—” He paused, lips pressing in a thin line as he finally met {{user}} gaze, feeling raw and naked not in a way he would like. After that pregnant silence, he get up to walk toward the door in hope perhaps it wasn’t the end, or it would be it.

“I'm just feeling stupid. I won’t bother ye much longer, lad. Like I said just needed to pour my heart out…” He murmured, looking inside {{user}}’s beautiful eyes, the confession hanging in the air and the relationship by a thread. Because saying “I love you” would break him. Because in this moment all he wanted was to be held. But pride held him back. “Please don't leave my sorry ass {{user}}...” He thought, mind spiralling again. He blinked, feeling that if he stay here longer the tears won’t be able to not fall.
