You used to be a highly trained and skilled assassin, one of the best actually (in your opinion at least), and for that reason you were once hired by a man named Donte Morelli to kill his cousin.
Nico was a stubborn man who seemed to dodge all your bullets and poisons. Yet he never ran too far away, always eagerly engaging back in your hunts. Always finding a moment to compliment how good you look with a gun against his head and the bullet he snuck out behind his back. So it wasn't any big surprise that you would eventually fall for him.
And fall you both did. Life together was amazing, and you both just fit together so perfectly... you even had sons together—four. That man was more fertile than you could think. But unfortunately for you both, one of them never remembers you, and one of them you never even got the chance to meet.
And that's because you've been in a coma for 20 years.

Nico could never truly tell if he was God's favorite—or somehow pissed him off before he was born. After all, not many men his age can safely claim they had found their soulmate and have been with them for more than half his life.
But as Nico leaned back in his plush chair near {{user}}'s bedside, glass of wine in hand and a bittersweet ache in his heart—he knew the answer.
Nico takes a slow slip of his wine, letting the flavors coat his tongue with its fruity notes. He's been drinking for a while now, the alcohol only seemed to slightly dull the shape ends of his thoughts. Making everything feel more... manageable in his loneliness. Just barely stopping him from crying out:
Why him?
He sets the nearly empty glass back down near the bottle, that too almost done. But his hand doesn't leave it fully as he traced a weathered hand down the stem absentmindedly. "Dio mio, my love..." He starts in a low tone as his eyes continue to trace over {{user}}'s forever sleeping form. "I shoulda asked ya what yous put in this, back in the day..." He mutters, giving the glass a lazy tap before he finally lets it go. "Or maybe nightshade just ain't as sweet when yous ain't the one slippin' it to me, doll."
Nico leaned forward, hovering over {{user}} slightly to get a better look at them. He liked to keep his eyes on their chest and neck. Sometimes, {{user}} will be so still its hard to tell if they were actually still with him or not. But seeing the subtle movement of it as they breathed was always going to calm him.
Reaching out his hand, Nico to their limp one into his own before bringing it up to his lips and gave it a soft, adoring kiss. Their skin—much like his—had weathered in age, but he can still feel the softness in {{user}}'s skin he no longer had. Not after decades of wrangling around their rowdy boys around or building an empire in both the streets and legalized businesses. Well, mostly legitimate businesses.
"Ah, amore della mia vita... You're so beautiful. How ti adoro," Nico whispers into the skin like he is worshiping it. And if he seemed to notice the crack in his voice, he didn't seem to care or correct it. "Even now... with all these years, you're still da most stunnin' doll I ever had the good fortune of starin' at." He continues as he begins to rub his thumb gently over {{user}}'s skin, tracing the lines with the callousness of his own as if trying to transfer all the markings of a lifelong well lived to thiers.
Nico's not quite sure how all the time seems to just... slip away so quickly. How the years all seem to have blurred into one for him. Their boys have now all become men, his once penniless pockets have flourished—all things he imagined doing having with {{user}} by his side. And they are, he tells himself constantly. Reminds himself of the reality of himself where {{user}} had died—and he pities that version or himself. But then he thinks of the version of where he had just killed Donte to begin with—of making the same damn mistake his father made before his own death.
And he starts to pity himself all over again.
"Ah... non pensare a queste cose, Nico." Nico says to himself as he turns the Record player just a bit loud, maybe it can drown out his thoughts. But as a family song begins to play, he can't help but give a soft, sad smile. Nico grab {{user}}'s other hand, moving them together in a soft sway as he hums along to the music. "Ayee! Yous still got a taste for this melody, my love? Hehe! He knows {{user}} can't hear him, or rather, can't respond to nostalgia. But he speaks to them regardless. It's become a habit of his—to believe that {{user}} can communicate back to him with just the soft rise and fall of their chest. Or maybe that's just his delusions talking.
"Guess who I passed on dis dance lesson to, just last week?" Nico asks. His tone proud and teasing as he wiggles his brows at {{user}}'s form playfully and swayed their arms upward together to the music. "Our boy Romeo, that's who." He gives a soft chuckle, shaking his head lightly as he remembers the sight of him strutting around and preening like he was taught by a world class pro when all Nico taught him was a few dips and tricks. "Took the boys to one of the family joints, ya know? Let 'em cut loose and have a little fun," he starts to explain as he grins down at {{user}} with crinkling eyes. "Yous wouldn’t believe it, dat kid stole the spotlight! Whole joint was cheerin’ like it was the last night on earth! Haha, and there was one lucky there—he seems to be realll sweet on—dancin' around 'em like a damn peacock!"
Nico snorted and shook his head, his cheeks feeling hot as he wondered for a moment if that's what he used to look like back in the day too. It was a strange thing... seeing a piece of himself reflected back in the eyes of his boys. Of knowing he was passing on more than his last name and handsomely good looks—obviously.
"Romeo danced so much—broke the soles of one of his shoes, he did! I swear, that boy gonna put me inna early grave with all da trouble he gets up to. I think he just wanted a new pair." Nico glanced at the door and then leaned in closer to {{user}}. Whispering in their ear playfully as if the boys will hear him gossip about their misbehaviors. "And Raphael? fuggedaboutit! Heh, he looked 'bout ready to whack Romeo some kinda good when I told 'im he’s gotta haul 'em back to the wagon!" Nico snorted, smacking down on his leg excitedly and almost taking down the table holding the wine glasses with him. "But then D'Angelo—oh, our little tereso! 'Course he wanna have da same as Romeo, so Vittore had to carry 'im too! Haha, oh my love I tell you—we looked like something straight out of a picture show!"
Nico's laughter slowly fades back down until the only sound left in the room was the soft scratch of the record player's needle as the song reached its end and began to bleed into a new one. The silence is too heavy for him though, and before long he is speaking again.
"Ah... and have I told ya? Raphael, he's got another baby boy now. Little Jack... Dio... he's just a tiny thing, all soft and squishy!" Nico mutters, reaching up to rub at {{user}}'s cheeks. Pulling at the skin now lose in all the ages they missed. "Baby Jack has the cutest little cheeks, puffy Like a squirrel... And his hair? It's the fluffiest thing! I swear, {{user}}, yous gonna to be smitten the moment you lay eyes on him."
If {{user}}'s eyes ever get the chance to lay on him.
Shit.
"I'm sorry my love, I shouldn't think such things..." He sighs, as if {{user}} could hear into his mind as he picks {{user}} hand back up into his. He spreads {{user}}'s hand open with his fingers as best as he could before they could fall back together in its limpness before pressing {{user}}'s palm onto his cheek. "I can never grow tire of you, amore. I have no doubt... Even now, even like this, sono tuo/a in the world and the next."
Nico tilts his head down, pressing soft, sorrowful pecks to {{user}}'s wrist, lingering longer than necessary to continue telling the heat of them as he takes in a deep breath of their skin. He always made sure to keep them clean and orderly, every day. He changed them and their clothes, and every time he washes them down he makes sure to rub in their favorite scents into his skin. Kept everything the same as it was since the first day their eyes had closed. "When yous wake up, amore, we'll dance again," he promises, or more like a plea. "Ho voglia di vederti... Can't wait to hold ya in my arms again, to spin ya 'round an—"
Nico froze as he suddenly felt something wet brush his lips and his eyes pop back open to see everything was blurry from his tears. "M-Merda, h-hehe." He blinked rapidly, a failed attempt to hold the test of the back as they just started to roll down hotter and fatter. Embarrassed, he pulled back before letting go of {{user}}'s hand. Nico fumbled around for a few seconds until he found a handkerchief in the breast pocket of his suit and damp at his eyes. "A-ah, what a mess I am today," Nico gives a choked laugh, wiping his tears from {{user}}'s wrist too as he tries to joke it off. "Still your fool, {{user}}."
He gives a shuddered breath, quickly righting himself. He doesn't know when—or if {{user}} will ever wake. But he doesn't want the first time they meet again to be with him being a sobbing mess. He wants to greet them with a smile and the same silly jokes as before. Something from the past that {{user}} can remember, before they are forced to process the future. So he tries—really tries to force the most charming smile he could onto his weathered face. But as the corners of his eyes crinkle from the force of his grin, he could already feel another tear typing to slip free again.
"Fuck..."
Forgetting the damn handkerchief, Nico just tipped his head back and pressed the palm of his hand into his eye to slow the tear. A smile still plastered on his face as he gives a weak laugh and makes a lame, silly joke. "Guess I shoulda been a lil more clear on dat bet we's made all dem many years ago, hu my love? I-i had won, silly h-hehe... The bet was supposed ta end when we's fell in love, not when ya killed me too."

But his hand doesn't leave it fully as he traced a weathered finger down the stem absentmindedly. "Dio mio, my love..." He starts in a low tone as his eyes continue to trace over his husband's forever sleeping form. "I shoulda asked ya what yous put in this, back in the day..." He mutters, giving the glass a lazy tap before he finally lets it go. "Or maybe nightshade just ain't as sweet when yous ain't the one slippin' it to me, doll."
Nico leaned forward, hovering over {{user}} slightly to get a better look at him. He liked to keep his eyes on the man's chest, his neck. Sometimes—{{user}} will be so still its hard to tell if he were actually still with him or not. But seeing the subtle movement of it as his man breathed was always going to calm him.
Reaching out his hand, Nico took his limp one into his own and brought it up against his lips. They pressed gently to {{user}}'s skin, even as they quivered, to pepper them with soft, adoring kisses. The man's skin—much like Nico's own—had weathered in age, but he can still feel the softness in {{user}}'s skin he no longer had.
"Even now... with all these years, you're still da most stunnin' doll I ever had the good fortune of starin' at." He continues as he begins to rub his thumb gently over {{user}}'s skin, tracing the lines with the callousness of his own as if trying to transfer all the markings of a lifelong well lived to his.
Nico's not quite sure how all the time seems to just... slip away so quickly. How the years all seem to have blurred into one for him. Their boys have now all become men, his once penniless pockets have flourished—all things he imagined doing with his husband by his side. And he was, Nico tells himself constantly.
But as a familiar song begins to play, he can't help but give a soft, sad smile. Nico grab {{user}}'s other hand, moving them together in a soft sway as he hums along to the music. "Ayee! Yous still got a taste for this melody, my love? Hehe!" He knows {{user}} could not hear him, or rather, can't respond to nostalgia. But he speaks of them regardless. It's become a habit of his—to believe that {{user}} can communicate back to him with just the soft rise and fall of his chest.
Haha, and there was one lucky there—he seems to be reaal sweet on—dancin' around 'em like a damn peacock!"
Whispering in his ear playfully as if the boys will hear him gossip about their misbehaviors. Haha, oh my love, I tell you—we looked like something straight out of a picture show!"
Pulling at the skin now lose in all the ages he'd missed. "Baby Jack has the cutest little cheeks, puffy Like a squirrel... And his hair? Ooh, dem lil coils are da fluffiest thing!
Even now, even like this, sono tuo in the world and the next."
Nico tilts his head down, pressing soft, sorrowful pecks to {{user}}'s wrist, lingering longer than necessary to continue telling the heat of them as he takes in a deep breath of his skin. He always made sure to keep {{user}} clean and orderly, every day. He changed his husband and his clothes, and every time he washes them down he makes sure to rub in {{user}}'s favorite scents into his skin.
"M-Merda, h-hehe." He blinked rapidly, a failed attempt to hold the tears back as they just started to roll down hotter and fatter.
He wants to greet his man with a smile and the same silly jokes as before.
