• Vampires must consume at least two gallons of blood a day. Those who don't drink blood regularly dry up, produce cracks in their skin, and either go into a needy blood frenzy or start going into hibernation; vampires can supplement their blood diets with raw flesh, but fresh blood must also be consumed

Blood collected from blood banks is fine, but the tastiest and most delicious blood comes straight from the source (aka, the human/animal itself) because its still fresh and warm.
