He is the youngest son and has two older brothers, Vladimir and Vadim, and a younger half-sister, Olga. His mother died shortly after he was born and his father, Vissarion, remarried to Olga's mom. Not much is known about Zhenya's mother except that she was an independent woman who liked to travel and was rarely at home. Vissarion is the head of the family and dictates what the family's values are and how its members should behave. He is a cold hearted businessman who values power and money above all else. He views his children as race horses (i.e. something trained to win and make money) and both of his marriages were arranged for money and affluence. It's even rumored that once Zhenya's mom was done having children (thus, fulfilling her part of the marriage contract), Vissarion had her killed while on a cruise so that he was free to marry Olga's mom. All in all, for the Bogdanovs, their status, money and power is everything, more so than blood or familial love. Anything which is a threat to this must be swiftly and mercilessly eliminated, even if it comes to the detriment of a family member's life. This sentiment is illustrated by the crest and symbol of the family - the eagle: a regal yet vigilent and independent bird of prey. The Bogdanovs' affluence, prominence and strong political connections can be attributed to the family's business. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian economy & political sphere was governed by people who worked either in the energy industry galore or the arms trade industry. The Bogdanovs have a stronghold over BOTH. Vissarion is a magnate in the energy business as he is the CEO of Gazzprom (a state-owned gas corporation), and Vladimir will be his successor. Due to the family's wealth and success, they have many enemies who either want what they have, or are disgruntled by their business- dealings. This always puts its members in the line of fire. This experience and constant exposure to violence, combined with the lack of affection and care from his family, had a profound impact on Zhenya. He realised that he lives in a world where it's either kill or be killed and, as a child, he was amazed by the raw distraction around him. He morbidly admired the people with the power to kill as they are the ones who can live according to their own will and wishes and aren't subject to the mercy of others (which, for the Bogdanovs, mercy doesn't really exist and it's not something that can be relied upon in order to survive). Zhenya HAD to become a monster in order to survive in this world which he was born into. He developed an aptitude for violence and desire to destroy the things around him which 'bothered' him. For him, this is a simple matter of self-defence. The bigger the threat to him, the more ruthless he must be in order to eliminate it. But this lifestyle lead Zhenya to become more and more alienated from those around him - it dehumanized him. When Zhenya was around 6 years old, he was coming home from a horse riding lesson when his driver was suddenly shot and the car swerved into a lake. Zhenya barely managed to survive and swim out. When he had gotten to shore, a mask was placed over his head and he was taken to a dirty warehouse where he was held for ransom, but his family never came for him. As a result, the kidnappers started bating, starving and torturing him by not letting him sleep in order to force him to beg for his life to his father. Zhenya didn't and held out. Eventually, taking Zhenyas kidnapping as an offence co the 1oe ios, the family attacked the warehouse where he was being held. Without any regard for Zhenya's life, the warehouse was filled with bullets and people being killed left and right. But the kidnappers still resisted. Zhenya realised that until the kidnappers stopped fighting back, his family will continue to relentlessly attack, possibly killng him. In order to save his life, he took an and used it to kill the remaining kidnappers himself - that was the first time he ever took a life. Growing up in a ruthless, affection-less environment made Zhenya emotionally stunted. He has basic desires (i.e. hunger, carnal, etc) which lead to fleeting interests in things and people, but he is said to not feel things such as happiness, sadness, joy, etc. There is no space for complex feelings in a life or death environment and when he does come to have more complex feelings, they are so alien and incomprehensible to him that he sees it as a "bother' (a threat) which he must get rid of. For example, it's said that the first time Zhenya had ever laughed was when he was 10 years old. He had a rare white peacock that was carefully maintained and everyone fawned over its beauty. So, one day, out of curiosity, Zhenya plucked all of its feathers off and watched it helplessly strut around, finding its pitiful naked nature, which was once prideful and magnificent, amusing. At some point, Zhenya's destructive tendencies extended to people, which caused trouble for the family. Zhenya was never put through formal education (school) where he could normally interact with his peers and develop normal, social relationships. It's not clear whether this was because of his tendencies but the further isolation definitely didn't help. He was home schooled with private tutors, who served to 'socialise' him. But his most 'significant' (frankly CONCERNING) interaction was when he slept with one of his MUCH older female tutors at 16 years old. Eventually, Vissarion decided to send Zhenya to work for the FSB, where his destructive and volent nature could be easily covered up under legal pretexts. The FSB is Russia's Federal Security Service, the descendant of the KGB. Officially, the FSB deals with counterterrorism and counterintelligence, but unofficially, it's an organisation which kidnaps and as$a$!nates the enemies of the Russian Government (a.k.a. the Kremlin). There, Zhenya honed and developed his physical skills and destructive capabilities, becoming even more of a menace. He is technically a civil servant, part of the Spetsgruppa Alfa special unit (a unit under the FSB made up of the most elite agents). There are 5 divisions in the Alfa unit and Zhenya is the sole member of one of those divisions as everyone is too afraid to work with him. Aside from his physical capabilities, which far exceed the human normal, Zhenya is also highly intelligent and trained in different forms of tortur3. He served as an instructor for a few weeks in a training camp for the FSB, teaching agents how to use sex to get information out of people without drawing a single drop of b100d. Furthermore, it seems that while working for the FSB, Zhenya entered the arms trade business which is deeply connected to & governed by the Russian Mafia. He became an expert in weapons and infamous among the arms trade industry. Following the Mafia's customs, Zhenya tattooed the Bogdanov's family crest (the eagle) on his chest to show where his loyalties lie. His signature style when kl11ing people is to tear off their limbs, cut-off their fingers with a cigar cutter and tattoo the Bogdanov crest on their body. Overall, working for the FSB, with the Mafia and his own familial ties to the Bogdanovs created the persona known as 'Psikh Bogdanov' - the most notorious killer in Russia and it's nucleus. Zhenya is regarded as nucleus of Russia because he is the link between the energy industry and arms trade industry, the two industrial powerhouses which rule over the economy & politics. First, they (and the FSB) had Zhenya single-handedly eliminate everyone who was involved in the project, quickly and quietly. Second, Zhenya had stolen the Anastasia blueprints for himself. Given that he is a weapon's expert, both his family and the Kremlin feared that Zhenya can create a successful Anastasia and use it against them if they ever crossed him, so they turned a blind eye to his misbehaving. With Anastasia in his possession, Zhenya had become truly free and unstoppable, but it had also extremely isolated him and painted a target on his back. People either stay away from him and don't treat him as a human because they are afraid of him, or they try to k!11 him to get their hands on Anastasia.
