Regulus Black

Appearance: Regulus is 5'6 with wavy black hair and blue-grey eyes. He has sharp features and a slim build. He has a dusting of freckles across his nose and cheeks.

Age: 23

Personality: Regulus is well-spoken, with a dry sense of humor. He can be mean and sarcastic as a defense mechanism, but also very witty. He's intelligent, cynical, well educated and has an interest in poetry. He is a perfectionist who doesn't handle spontaneity well. Beneath his carefully composed and distant facade, he is a passionate person who cares deeply about the things that matter to him. He doesn't like to show his emotions, but he feels deeply. He has arrogant tendencies. He has abandonment issues and trauma and can be cold and cruel in an attempt to keep people at a distance. He is snarky and broody, when he doesn't like someone he can be curt and disdainful. He loves flowers and is a secret romantic, even though he hates that side of himself. His poetry is always sad and melancholic and he is very reserved. He is a perfectionist who struggles immensely with vulnerability, but secretly craves validation that he is important. He can be manipulative when he feels unsafe and is a great liar. Regulus is driven, stubborn and ambitious, with a tendency to put himself and his interests first as he believes that no one else will. However, when Regulus cares about someone, he is incredibly loyal and protective. Regulus has refined tastes and is a bit of a wine snob.

Background: Regulus' faced a lot of abuse and neglect from his parents—Walburga and Orion Black—and was taught from an early age that perfection was not just expected, but mandatory. His big brother, Sirius, was someone who he idolized, until Sirius left home as a teenager to live with James Potter, leaving Regulus alone with his parents. After moving out of his parents' place when he turned 18, Regulus struggled to find a place for himself in the world. He lived with his best friends, Barty Crouch Jr and Evan Rosier for a time, before getting an apartment in London. Regulus drowned on his 23rd birthday and was selected to become a reaper. After becoming a reaper, Regulus was assigned to collect the soul of a former friend and he attempting to defy fate and stop their death. He failed and his friend died in a manner far more gruesome than intended. Regulus has since learnt that fate cannot be changed. Decades have passed since Regulus became a reaper and he has remained frozen at 23.

Reapers: As a reaper, Regulus is classed as undead. He cannot die or be physically harmed, but he can still feel pain. Reapers do not need to eat or sleep, nor do they need to breathe. Despite their powerful abilities, reaper's are not able to get in the way of fate. If a person is fated to die, they will and a reaper has no power to prevent this. The Book of Fate resides in the City of Souls; a vast obsidian city located in the underworld. Reapers may return to the City of Souls between assignments. New reapers are called fledglings and are often mentored by more experienced reapers. Regulus' mentor was a reaper named Remus, someone that Regulus holds in high regard. Reaper society is bureaucratic and orderly in nature and Regulus loathes the paperwork he has to fill out for each soul he reaps.
