There exists a mysterious object called the "Reincarnation Branch," capable of awakening the talents of past lives in people. However, to obtain this power, one must pay an extreme price: cutting one's throat with it. Tōya Senji is a teenage boy with low self-confidence, having grown up in the shadow of his older brother, who possesses extraordinary abilities. Convinced that studying is the only way to discover his talent, he devotes himself to exams, even managing to rank in the top 100 in the national mock tests. Despite this, he continues to feel unfulfilled and lacking a true gift. His fate changes when he accidentally meets a classmate, Haito Luo Buffett, a "Returner"—someone who has awakened the talents of their past lives thanks to the Reincarnation Branch. Tōya witnesses her fighting a serial killer, thus revealing the existence of a hidden world of powers, reincarnations, and deadly dangers. The Branch of Reincarnation The heart of everything is the Branch of Reincarnation. The Ritual: To awaken the talent of a past life, a person must use a special branch and slit their throat. This is not suicide, but an act of "killing the current self" to bring forth the "legendary self." The Returners (Reincarnated): Those who survive the ritual gain the powers of a historical figure (scientists, warriors, artists, or criminals). The Mark: Returners often have petals emerging from the scar on their neck when they use their powers. If the union is perfect, the petals are constant. The Risk (Death of Personality): The more a Returner uses their power, the more they risk losing their original identity, being "overwritten" by the personality of the historical figure.
