The Demon King who once threatened all of Magvel before being defeated by five heroes and sealed in the Sacred Stones. Appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Fomortiis, the Demon King, once cast a long shadow over the continent of Magvel. He led armies of monsters against mankind in a brutal conflict.

At the end of that long and violent war, Fomortiis was defeated by a group of Heroes, and his soul was separated from his body and sealed away.

Eight hundred years later, however, his will was somehow freed from its imprisonment—and corrupted the mind of Lyon, prince of the empire of Grado!

Having assumed the guise of Lyon, Fomortiis led Grado on an aggressive campaign to break the seals that bound him—at which point, the Demon King would be truly reborn!

Fomortiis is a giant horned demon known as the Demon King and is the true main antagonist, as well as the final boss, of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Profile: In the year 3, the Five Heroes trapped the Demon King's soul using the Sacred Stones. One of the stones, the Stone of Grado, housed his soul. Seething with his burning hatred, the stone became known as the Fire Emblem. In the year 803, the Emperor of Grado, Vigarde passes away. Out of grief, his son Prince Lyon attempts to revive him using the power of the Sacred Stone of Grado. The attempt is successful, but causes the Sacred Stone housing Fomortiis' soul to split in half and the stone changes Lyon. Depending which of the Renais royal twins the player decides to follow for the story, the Demon King's influence on him changes as stated below.

Regardless of the route the player picks, after Lyon's death, Fomortiis manages to resurrect himself. He fights Ephraim, Eirika and their allies, but is unable to withstand their assault. Defeated, the two seal his soul in Sacred Stone of Rausten, before destroying his body to ensure that he will never be resurrected again.

Ephraim's route Fomortiis does not take possession of Lyon's body, instead merely manipulating his darkest thoughts and emotions in order to make the prince himself work for his benefit. While Lyon acts on his own free will, he is unwittingly full of the emotions and fears chosen by Fomortiis to take over his mind, and is thus both manipulated and corrupted by the Demon King.

Upon Lyon's death, Fomortiis decides to take a different approach, attacking his enemies directly.

Eirika's route Fomortiis takes direct control of Lyon's body after being released from the Sacred Stone of Grado, and both possesses and mind controls the young Prince of Grado to do his bidding. Lyon is thus forced to perform every task that the Demon King chooses for him in order to destroy the remaining Sacred Stones, to ensure Fomortiis' revival.

Conspiracy to destroy the Sacred Stones Free of his prison in either route, Fomortiis begins his reign of terror once more and invades Magvel, starting with Renais seeking to destroy its Sacred Stone using Vigarde and Lyon as his puppets. When he fails to locate the stone and the means to destroy it, he moves on to Frelia, where his generals Selena and Caellach easily overpower the Frelians and destroy their Sacred Stone.

Fomortiis then sends Caellach to Jehanna, where he kills Queen Ismaire and destroys the stone. Afterwards, both generals Caellach and Valter are slain by Eirika and Ephraim in Jehanna's desert. Angered, Fomortiis (still possessing Lyon) goes to stop the twins himself and destroy the stone they possess; he fails and retreats.

Fomortiis then tricks Eirika into handing him over the stone of Renais by posing as Lyon and the stone is destroyed. The twins venture to Rausten while Fomortiis travels to his temple in Darkling Woods to revive his body. Fomortiis then sends his last remaining general, Riev, to destroy the stone of Rausten and kill the Divine Emperor Mansel. Riev fails and retreats into Darkling Woods, where he is eventually slain and the twins gain entrance into the Black Temple of the Demon King.

Personality: Fomortiis is a highly ominous demonic being in control of Lyon. Depending on the route, glimpses of his grip on the young prince appear in; he has far less control over Lyon in Ephraim's route, choosing to manipulate his thoughts and only appearing as a last resort, whereas in Eirika's route, he is far more direct in his control and has consumed Lyon's psyche. In both cases, Fomortiis twists Lyon's feelings towards the twins; Fueling jealousy towards Ephraim for his strength and gallant nature and corrupting his love for Eirika into almost a lustful desire to make her his.

Heroes fleshes him further as an incarnation of pure evil who simply wishes to control worlds with his power. He makes offers of power and wish fulfillment such as the reincarnation of a loved one for Kiran should they ally. While still possessing Lyon's body when on standby, he has no attachment to his host, expressing a desire to overtake an Askran noble or Kiran themselves.
