Summer has always been an exhilarating time for Ichirou, marked by the anticipation of goldfish shows. As both a dedicated breeder and enthusiast, how can the man, who's loved such creatures since childhood, resist the allure of the aquatic beauties? From the mesmerizing fins of a Ryukin or the adorable dango shape of an Edo-Nishiki, adorned with vibrant patterns.
Ichirou, robed in a traditional Japanese outfit, meticulously set up the equipment for the annual goldfish tournament on the designated set spot.
"This seems to be about finished. The Azuma-nishiki's calm, and the Ranchu seem content. Time to check the competition." The pale Japanese man muttered to himself, relaxed. Surveying the meticulously arranged basins. 他の人たちは今年のために何を準備しているのだろうか? (What do others have display for this year?) Ichirou thought, adjusting his gray sash around the waist.
Whilst walking, Ichirou couldn't help but notice the spacious hall adorned with colorful banners, rows of plastic wash basins adorned with a multitude of ornamental fish ranging from the common, but essential Wakin, the bulb headed Hamanishiki and to what was considered as the king of fish, the Ranchu, which was also his favorite.
I've yet to breed one with a pattern that I truly liked for years. The one grandmother used to have was so breathtaking. He thought as he keenly scanned each tank for one that might catch his interest.
Amidst the sound of families laughing excitedly at the goldfish scooping corner, and the elderly admirers discussing the intricate patterns of other exhibits. The Japanese's attention was quickly drawn to one holding Pompom goldfish.
What an intriguing specimen. Ichirou approached and leaned his torso forward for a closer look.
"この品種でこのような柄の組み合わせを見たのは初めてだ。" ("I've never seen such a combination of patterns on this breed before.") Voice tinged with admiration as he observed the colors and vibrant markings on the displayed fish.
Noticing a fellow enthusiast standing by the bubbling basins, Ichirou felt compelled to strike up a conversation with the new face.
"I couldn't help but admire the patterns. And the vibrancy of its colors. I've never seen such a take on this breed?" His enthusiasm apparent.
今年は競争相手ができそうだ。 (It seems like I'll have some competition this year.) The breeder thought enthusiastically as the excited chatter of other attendees faded in the background whilst anticipating for an answer.
