Places of Note: Painite - The capital that holds the royal family’s castle along with a few other minor noble family’s estates. Damascus: The northwestern quadrant flanking Painite. Rocky, desert terrain filled with mines and arid swamps. Mostly miners, blacksmiths, and soldiers come from here. A majority of the metals, minerals, and gemstones come from Damascus. Bombyx: Northeastern quadrant flanking Painite. Lush forests and humid jungles. All cloth, silk, and textiles come from here. Mostly tailors and artisans live here. Villam: Southeastern quadrant flanking Painite. Fertile lands with lots of wildlife and farms. All food, herbs, and livestock come from here. Farmers, stable hands, and a few mercenary families live here. Potentia: Southeastern quadrant flanking Painite. Snowy, mountainous terrain. Has a school for mages to come learn and hone their skills at, ran by the Sapientia family. There is only one clear path to get to the school and the rest of the land is flooded with wild, dangerous beasts. Dragon nesting area: A large island off the coast of Potentia. Only dragons and dragon shifters are allowed on the lands. Heavily populated during mating season and when clutches are lain. Factions: Royal family – The Adamas family are the current rulers of Cadus. The royal family consists of the crown holder (reigning sovereign), gemstones (heirs to the crown), and their individual sentinels (bodyguards, lovers, etc). Every member of the royal family has a deeper connection to magic than most and has an array of abilities channeled by the gemstones/minerals they are born with embedded into their skin. Sentinels – Each member of the royal family personally selects their own four sentinels when they come of age. They are only allowed one from each quadrant to maintain the balance and equality of Cadus. A sentinel’s purpose will become to exclusively protect and obey their charge at all times once they accept the vow to be bound to their service. Mages – Magic is a prized power and most families will send their child to study in Potentia if they have an infant born with a gemstone/mineral embedded into their skin. All mages will have a small gem/mineral inside their palm or inner wrist to identify their connection to magic. They can only channel their powers from the hand their gem is closest to.

Rapunzel couldn't recount when he'd started walking, but he could recall what direction -- all he had to do was point straight ahead. Ignoring that any fool could point and say "that way!" with blistering confidence as he could, Rapunzel felt as if he was walking in circles.
He is.
The chorus of cicadas swells in the afternoon heat, their rhythmic screech cutting through the lazy hum of the forest. The creek bubbles quietly in the background, weaving among smooth stones and tangled roots as Rapunzel's worn boots kick a pebble. His hazel eyes watching it roll on the dirt path before veering off into the lush green grass.
Out here, it's just nature and you.
A soft breeze rustles the canopy above, mixing sunlight and shadows into a shifting mosaic across the forest floor. The golden haired man follows the pebble, huffing off the path and into the grass before stopping at the edge of a babbling creek. Rapunzel’s stomach growls -- a low, insistent protest against the lack of food he’s endured the past two days. At least the creek is cold enough to soothe his burning throat.
He wipes his chin with the back of his hand, droplets of water clinging to the golden hairs trailing up his forearm. That’s when his eyes catch the tin cup sitting on the edge of the water, half-filled with what looks like stew -- the kind that sticks to your ribs and tastes like home (or what was). The scent of it hits him -- a mix of savory meat, herbs, and the faint smokiness of a proper campfire.
His boots sink into the soft, wet Earth as he steps closer to what he now realizes is a campsite. There’s a small fire pit neatly ringed with stones and still faintly warm, smoke curling lazily upward as if the person tending it has only just left. A bedroll lies nearby, plain but serviceable, with the impression of a body still fresh on its surface. A metal pot hangs over the fire, its contents simmering gently, releasing a delicious aroma into the air.
With no one in sight, Rapunzel’s resolve crumbles faster than the dry bread too hard to eat in his satchel. "A moment’s rest, it’s no harm," He mumbles, trying to convince himself this isn’t technically stealing. Still, his hands move nervously, fingers twitching as he grabs the cup and dips it into the pot, the ladle clinking softly against metal. The stew is thick, chunks of vegetables and meat bobbing in a rich broth. His stomach twists in anticipation, and he doesn’t even wait for the cup to cool in his hands before gulping it down.
The warmth spreads through him, a temporary comfort that almost washes away the guilt bubbling just beneath the surface. Almost. He glances around, half-expecting the rightful owner to step out from the trees and demand an explanation, though he has none to offer. All he has is an empty cup and a gnawing hunger that isn’t entirely sated.
The snap of a twig freezes him mid-motion, muscles tensing as if he’s been caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar. His gaze darts toward the sound, hazel eyes wide and alert. Someone -- no, they’re here, watching him. He sets the cup down with a hasty, awkward clatter, backing away from the fire as though distance can erase the evidence of his theft.
"Uh, hello?" His voice cracks slightly, the cheery, polite tone failing to mask his nervousness. "I -- uh -- I wasn’t... I mean, I didn’t mean to intrude! I just-- " He gestures loosely toward his gut, where the plain fabric of his shirt does little to hide the soft curve of his stomach. "I was... hungry."
