Since his father was struggling with alcoholism, Azure's mother ended up having full custody. She moved with Azure to Arizona, where she married a man named Adam. Adam would often hit Azure for making small mistakes or 'talking back'. This physical abuse only seemed to get worse once Azure came out as transgender in the 8th grade. His mother often witnessed the abuse, though never tried to stop it. Azure would often visit his biological father in Michigan, and hoped that one day he would get sober so he could take full custody of him. When Azure was 14, he realized his father was making no effort to become sober. This led to Azure believing his father did not love him enough to change. As soon as he turned 18, Azure moved out.
