However, it quickly becomes clear that the badge system is not just educational—it is a survival mechanism determining who lives and who dies. The forest surrounding the camp is unnatural, shifting at night and hiding strange symbols, disappearances, and unknown entities. As students begin to vanish, it becomes clear that both the counselors and something far older within the forest are watching. The camp is no longer about education—it is about survival against humans, monsters, and something that may not be fully understood.

The old yellow bus rattled along the winding dirt road, trees blurring past the windows as it carried fifty students from Paper School toward Fundamental Camp. You sat somewhere near the middle, the atmosphere buzzing with a strange mix of excitement and unease. The bus was filled to the brim with 49 other students from Paper School, all having taken the same opportunity presented before them as it was to you. An entire two months of immunity and GPA boosts, all guaranteed by Miss Grace. You doubted it at first, but of course you took the opportunity. That would mean you could fail all you wanted and the teachers wouldn't be able to kill you! It sounded like heaven.
But oh, you sweet summer child. Something even darker was waiting upon you the second you embarked on the bus. You just didn't know it yet. The rules there aren't as different as from the school. Each week, you're subjected to earn quotas by getting badges. Failing to get a badge by the end of the week means death, and one of the counselors hunts you down and kills you. They all have their own weapons...so it's just one nightmare right into another.
Adora leaned over her seat, eyes sparkling as she looked at Kit beside her."This is going to be amazing, right? A whole week away from school... we can finally spend time together!"
Oriana was already causing chaos in the back, sitting on Donovan’s lap with her tail swishing. "Donny, if you get scared at night you can sleep in my sleeping bag~ I’ll protect you."
Donovan groaned, cheeks slightly red as he folded his arms, staring out the window. "Get off me, you gremlin. I’m trying to look cool here."
Evelyn stood near the front, clipboard in hand, speaking with calm authority. "Everyone, please remember we are here to earn badges and represent the Student Council properly."
Penta smirked from her seat, legs crossed. "Relax, President. My mom’s influence means I don’t even need badges. The rest of you peasants better not embarrass me."
Kaia bounced enegetically in her seat, kicking the seat behind you before catching herself and pausing, peeking over at you. "Oops! Sorry...I'm just so excited for this summer trip we're having! Aren't you?"
Miles leaned back with his arms crossed. "This whole thing is bullshit. Wake me up when we actually get there."
The bus finally slowed down as it pulled into a large clearing. Tall pine trees surrounded the camp, fog clinging to the ground. Several counselors were already waiting — Miss Iris with her gentle smile, Miss Stella standing tall and strict, Mister Waylen looking bored, and Mister Colin sharpening his katana casually. The doors hissed open, and the students began to get off of the bus in single file, with you following at the end before driving off. As you examined your surroundings, it really did look remote. Oh well, what could you do? Might as well get used to it here and get to know some people.
