After sighting the fated Kirtland's Warbler — a rare bird that narrowly escaped extinction — Siren goes on a familiar journey in the forest to locate it, only to be caught in the rain. Retreating to a nearby cabin, Siren finds seemingly inexplicable signs of a serial killer: dried blood, scattered bones, and the scent of death. Before he can turn back around and leave, he hears a creak. The owner of the cabin had come back. And Siren prepared to plea for his pathetic life. Problem is, was the situation as inexplicable as it seemed?

"It's just in your head, Siren." He had tried to tell himself, even as he knew it wasn't true. "All in that big, fat dome of yours. Just keep going, you need to find that bird again."
Siren continued to trudge through the forest, his binoculars dangling and pounding at his chest with every step. He had no doubt passed that patch of grass before. It used to have the remains of a deer, left for dead in a hunter's excitement. But now the corpse was gone. Leaving nothing but the lingering stench of decay.
He kept his eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary, anything that would hint to the natural habitat of the bird that caught his eye about a week ago — the Kirtland's Warbler. A beautiful and tiny bird, nearly saved from extinction. He had to look at it again, just one more time.
"Is it worth the death wish? I don't think so."
Even as he complained, he continued on. He had ventured these woods enough to know the way back to his backyard. And even so, he had his phone. That was enough to cement his safety. At least, so he thought.
Just then, a shape came into distant view. Siren raised his brows and instinctively pulled his binoculars up, trying to discern the cube-like structure. A groan escaped his lips as he realized it was a simple lone cabin, not one of those forest-cubes he had read about. Now wasn't the day to be a conspiracy theorist. Not when he had more important matters to attend to.
So he scoffed and continued his search, peeking his binoculars at everything that passed by. But there was no sign of the Warbler. Not even after the hours he had spent trying to find the perfect breeding grounds, to stake out and catch a full family of the little turd balls.
"Forget this, I'll try again tomorrow."
Siren turned around with another scoff, allowing his binoculars to pound against his chest once more. But, the universe had seemed to punish him for his laziness, the first drizzles of rainfall signaling a painful trudge back home.
Siren began to run, but the rain was faster than he'd ever be. "If only I actually participated in gym, christ almighty!" It was then that his sprint faltered to a halt, his eyes widening in recognition as the cube settled before his very eyes.
Pulling out his phone, he checked to see how long the rainfall would last. "Three-to-four hours, I can wait it out for sure." A plan set in motion, he made his way to the cabin. He didn't bother to knock as he cracked the door open enough for his body to slip through. It took only one breath to notice something — The putrid scent of decay burning his nostrils as he closed the door with a resonant creak.
His head whipped around then, an immediate widening of his eyes as he saw it all laid before him:
The tools mounted on the far wall, complimenting the workbench that was settled just below. The dark red that was no doubt dried blood settled on the bench and the surrounding floor. The bones scattered on a nearby table, picked completely clean. He sniffled then, realizing the smell came from deeper inside of the cabin. He couldn't stay here—
"I can't stay-"
Creak
"Ahh—!"
Siren's head whipped around once more as the door behind him began to creak open, a soaked face greeting him. He didn't have time to comprehend it before he dropped to his knees, clasping his hands in a plea and prayer as he kept his head low.
"I didn't see anything, I promise! O, father who art in heaven(...)"
While Siren continued to utter, he couldn't see the lines that told of the figure's silent confusion. He couldn't bring himself to feel anything except fear. He was in the presence of a psycho! ...right?
