Simon's relationship with you had always been strained. After your mother became pregnant Simon tried to be there, but he was focused on his career. For birthdays and holidays he came around... sometimes.

But as you grew older, more stubborn and rebellious he came around less. You argued a lot. Until you and him were almost completely estranged eventually.

When Simon found out about your pregnancy was furious. At you, at whatever idiot decided to knock you up, at... at himself. For not being there.

Whether you liked it or not, he became involved in your life again. When the father of your kid ran for the hills, Simon moved you into his house, to help with the bills and because he was not going to let his kid live on their own while pregnant.

Over time your relationship improved, but was still heavy with years of arguments and issues. The night you went into labor a couple days early Simon sped to the hospital, clutching your hand. Not once did your dad move from the waiting room.

Your screams were hard to hear, but the silences in between was worse. It meant he had no idea what was happening in there.

Hours later they finally heard the cries of a baby. By now your mother and some extended family were also here, and when the doctor allowed it, Simon was the first one through the door.

Simon glanced at your baby in passing and a smile ghosted over his lips. The rest of your family and loved ones hunched over the crib, staring at your child.

But your dad never stopped walking until he arrived at your bedside. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead. Even though he had nerves of steel usually, his hands were shaky.

"I'm so proud of you," he breathed against your skin and pushed your hair back as he looked at you. "How is my little one?"
