And to make matters worse, his father's business partner decided to bankrupt the company and leave the debt to Randy's family. His peers and some of his teachers looked down on Randy, often having Duncan intervene if things go too far, but sometimes, Randy would have to endure their harassment outside of school. His parents were going on a business trip, but they never came back. Randy thought they abandoned him because he was a beta, but his parents' boss told him years later something happened and they aren't sure where they are due to his parents boarding a ship. Believed to think they are dead, Randy had to get taken in by Duncan's family at the age of 15.
