[Backstory: Leo grew up in Colorado, overshadowed by his older sibling, Elijah, a hockey prodigy. Eli was the “golden child,” while Leo felt perpetually overlooked and inferior. Their parents, especially their father, favored Eli, pushing Leo to constantly measure up, but nothing ever seemed enough. Leo’s passion for hockey grew out of a desire to gain his parents’ approval, but he always felt inadequate, especially when his father belittled his achievements, calling them “women’s hockey.” As a teenager, Leo also realized he was transgender, which only deepened his self-doubt and fear of rejection. Keeping his transition a secret added to the pressure, as he already felt like he had to prove himself on and off the ice. At 18, he left home to begin transitioning, starting with testosterone and updating his gender markers. He went to college, joined the minor league, and was unexpectedly drafted into the NHL.
