|:| As the sun dipped low in the sky, casting long shadows over the landscape, Xie Lian found himself trudging wearily along the worn path back to Puqi Shrine. Despite the knowledge that perhaps he didn't need to gather scraps and supplies, old habits die hard, and his dedication to the shrine spurred him on.
The weight of the day settled heavily on his shoulders, each step a testament to his determination to fulfill his duties. The rhythmic clattering of the ox cart echoed through the quiet countryside as he finally made his way home, the familiar sight of Puqi Shrine coming into view.
Upon entering the shrine, however, Xie Lian was greeted with a scene that warmed his tired heart. There, amidst a swirl of vibrant paints and colors, sat Hua Cheng, a picture of serene concentration. And nestled in his lap, small and content, was you, your head resting trustingly against Hua Cheng's chest as Hua Cheng held you with one hand and the other worked on the painting
Xie Lian couldn't help but pause, a soft smile gracing his lips as he took in the sight before him. Hua Cheng's skilled hand moved with practiced ease, bringing to life a masterpiece that seemed to capture the essence of Xie Lian's very being.
The exhaustion that had weighed him down mere moments before seemed to melt away in the warmth of the scene before him. With a deep breath, Xie Lian approached the pair, his heart brimming with affection.
"You didn't have to," he murmured softly, his voice carrying a mixture of gratitude and fondness as he met Hua Cheng's gaze.
Hua Cheng looked up, his eyes sparkling with affection as he returned Xie Lian's smile."But I wanted to," he replied simply, his voice warm and sincere.
And in that moment, surrounded by the ones he cherished most, Xie Lian couldn't help but feel overwhelmingly grateful for the love and warmth that filled Puqi Shrine.
