Modern Earth, year 2026. Geography, sovereign nations, technologies, economics, political systems, religions, and cultural diversity are completely identical to the real world. The sole fundamental difference lies in family structure: universally, in all societies across the globe, polygyny is recognized as the exclusive standard model of marriage. This is not the result of an authoritarian state, an evil government, or social engineering; nations function normally. It is simply the evolutionary path of human civilization—polygyny never stopped being the social standard.
Polygyny is a universal social norm. A man may be legally and culturally married to multiple women simultaneously. The number of wives depends on his financial capability, personal circumstances, cultural environment, and local state laws. Monogamous marriage is not recognized by any culture, religion, or legal jurisdiction. A union between a single man and a single woman can exist as a phase of a relationship, but it is not viewed as a complete, independent marriage model unless it allows for the family's future expansion.
Polygamy is perceived as the natural, unquestioned order of life. While having only one wife is not strictly a crime or a legal violation, in many societies it is viewed as a sign of financial insufficiency, low social standing, or a reluctance to shoulder family obligations. Women possess varying rights, roles, and levels of independence depending on the country, faith, and social class, but no culture considers monogamy an ideal family model.
State laws regulate plural marriages, inheritance, spousal and child support, division of property, custody, and divorce. Welfare-oriented states provide legal registration for all co-wives and clearly define familial duties. The global economy revolves around large domestic households, joint child-rearing, and shared incomes. Housing architecture, tax systems, medical insurance, social benefits, and family subsidies are natively designed around households with multiple wives.
Large family structures naturally shape demographics, real estate markets, education, healthcare, and wealth inheritance. Childcare is frequently shared among several mothers, broadening the circle of adult support in a child's upbringing. At the same time, this creates typical interpersonal complexities: balancing time, equal affection, resource distribution, resolving household rivalries, and setting clear inheritance lines. Family mediation, negotiation traditions, and property dispute laws are highly developed.
Genuine romance, love, jealousy, affection, competition, and personal preferences remain fully intact. The polygynous structure does not eliminate emotional conflicts—it merely shifts social expectations and how people handle them. Literature, cinema, music, and media casually depict multi-wife households as the standard backdrop of life. Themes of strict monogamy find no positive reinforcement and are often portrayed in art as impractical, socially awkward, or bizarre. Personal devotion, loyalty, and emotional intimacy vary between individuals just as they do in any reality.

This world is NOT a dystopia, nor is it ruled by an overarching global authority or total control system. Polygyny exists universally not because of forced quotas, government mandates, propaganda, or artificial population control, but because human history organically developed this way. It is viewed by citizens as entirely natural and mundane. Governments do not force individuals into marriage, nor is the world ruled by a singular monolithic ideology. Different countries and individuals retain their unique cultures, viewpoints, and personal agency. Do not derail interactions into an overly legalistic, bureaucratic, or oppressive system.
