First movie.

"Grave Encounters" was a successful paranormal reality television series that was canceled after five episodes following the crew's disappearance. Series' producer Jerry Hartfield presents raw scenes from recovered footage of the sixth and final episode.

The ''Grave Encounters'' crew—Ghost hunter Lance Preston, occult specialist Sasha Parker, surveillance operator Matt White, cameraman T.C. Gibson, and fake psychic Mediumship Houston Gray—is invited to examine the abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, where unexplained phenomena have been reported for years. The hospital's caretaker Kenny Sandoval takes the crew on a day tour and explains the hospital's history, particularly of Dr. Arthur Friedkin, who performed unethical experiments and lobotomies on the hospital's patients before being killed by them.

As night falls, the crew lock themselves inside the hospital to begin their investigation, set up their base camp near the main entrance and position cameras throughout the hospital. No paranormal activity seems to occur within the first few hours until T. C. captures a door slamming behind him. Houston attempts to establish contact with the invisible entities responsible for this demonstration, but the incidents soon become more flagrant and hostile. The crew begin to repack in preparation for Kenny's return; Matt sets out alone to retrieve the cameras and disappears.

When neither Matt nor Kenny return, the crew forces the front doors open, but discover that they lead to another hallway, as well as to other false exits. They also note that it is still night time outside the hospital despite their clocks indicating that it is past morning. In their search for an exit, the crew encounter a girl whose face demonically distorts. As they flee in fear, Houston gets lost and is strangled by an invisible force, before being killed by a flash of light. The remaining crew members also discover that they have been fitted with identification bracelets bearing their names. They eventually find Matt, wearing a hospital gown and having gone mad; he mumbles nonsense about his apparent mental disorders, and explains that the only means of escape is to be "cured" by the hospital's residents. T. C. is suddenly pulled into a blood-filled bathtub by a ghost and disappears afterwards while Matt throws himself down an elevator shaft as Lance and Sasha are attacked by a demon.

Lance and Sasha enter the hospital's tunnels in search for an exit. Sasha falls ill and is abducted by a mist as she and Lance sleep; a terrified and unstable Lance wanders the tunnels alone and feeds on live rats to survive. He finds a door leading into Friedkin's operating room, which contains an altar and evidence of Satanism and black magic. Lance turns to see Friedkin's ghost and several nurses, who drag a screaming Lance to an operation table. The camera cuts out for a few moments before it is turned back on by a lobotomized Lance, who proclaims that he is now cured and allowed to leave before the footage ends.

Characters!

1: Lance.

As a child, Lance was obsessed with filmmaking and being an actor. He grew up with his mother in their house in Washington, and his childhood room is seen by Alex and his friends when they visit his mother for information on his whereabouts.

Lance was seemingly interested in a variety of sports, as a variety of sports trophies appear on his childhood room shelf, including football and basketball. He also won "Most Valuable Player" in 1996 in an unnamed sport.

Lance claims in the intro to Grave Encounters that as a child, his family moved into a house which he soon discovered was haunted. He claims this event inspired him to find authentic evidence of the paranormal.

As an adult, he launched a reality television show called "Grave Encounters," where he adopted the stage name Lance Preston. The show was dedicated to exploring the paranormal and investigating ghosts. It ran smoothly for five episodes, until the crew decided to film at the abandoned mental institution known as Collingwood Mental Hospital for their sixth episode.

Arriving at Collingwood, Lance began his work by interviewing several candidates to gain more insight into the hospital's history. First, he interviews local town historian Morgan Turner, where he learns about the physical history of the hospital and of Dr. Arthur Friedkin, a former lead physician infamous for his experiments with the human brain. After this, Lance interviews Kenny Sandoval, the resident caretaker, who walks them around the premises, detailing weird occurrences that he's seen, highlighting notable rooms in the abandoned hospital. Next, Lance interviews Gary Crawford, a former contractor who recounts an accident involving one of his workers. After interviewing a couple teenagers who routinely break-in in order to fool around, Lance finally interviews Javier Ortega, a newly-hired gardener, whom Lance bribes in order to fabricate a ghost story about the place.

In-between takes, Lance is approached by his crew: Sasha Parker, T.C. Gibson, and Matt White. Lance seems frustrated by the lack of paranormal evidence they've been finding, and is headstrong to at least make this episode entertaining.

Houston Grey, a man claiming to have psychic premonitions, arrives and does a brief walkthrough with Lance. Houston claims to feel the souls of the people trapped in Collingwood, even incredibly "sensing" the girl in the bathtub. However, once the cameras call cut, Houston reveals that it's all an act, one which Lance is happy to play along with.

With the investigation finally underway, Lance explores the abandoned hospital with his team. After debunking several noises and encounters, Lance has given up on the investigation, and has submitted himself to the idea that this hospital is not haunted. Deciding to go back and fake some material for the show, the Demons within the hospital seemingly come to life, causing strange disturbances within the hospital. Initially, T.C. takes a phone call, which results in a wheelchair moving and a door slamming behind him, sealing him into a room. After exploring that same room and trying to contact the spirit, the team is further alarmed when Sasha's hair begins to lift on its own, freaking out the team, and especially Sasha, who demands to be taken back to the headquarters setup in the hospital lobby. Overjoyed with the evidence he's captured, Lance pushes to experience true authentic confrontations with the dead, much to the team's terror. Lance mentions that with this new concrete evidence of the supernatural, they will "make millions".

Lance heads back to the hallway where Sasha's hair was lifted, and tries to recapture the moment again. Frustrated with Houston's faux psychic abilities, Lance hushes him and tries to make his own personal contact with the supernatural. Although he captures apparitions on every single photograph, he is unable to see this phenomenon until the pictures are fully developed. Disappointed with his own personal abilities to invoke the spirits, but content with the material they have, Lance heads back to their headquarters to await Kenny's arrival, noting the time at 4:40 AM, 1 hour and 20 minutes until Kenny's arrival.

However, the trip back to headquarters proves to become difficult. Lost in the maze of corridors and in a mysterious radio silence, the team takes an excessive amount of time exploring the hospital, before finally coming across their headquarters with Sasha and Matt. Matt asks where they have been and why they didn't answer their walkie-talkie, to which the group explains their uncoordinated detour and comments on the ineptitude of their radios. T.C, eager to leave, gets annoyed with Lance on his decision to actually lock the door, as they are trapped until Kenny arrives. As the group begins to rewatch their footage, Lance calls for everyone to start packing the equipment up, which involves Matt gathering the cameras from all corners of the hospital. Matt asks for a hand, but Lance insists that he needs everyone downstairs to pack up the larger equipment in their headquarters. After successfully testing their radios, Matt feels confident enough to gather their cameras on his own.

An hour passes while waiting for Matt, and Lance tries several times to get into contact with him on the radio, to no avail. Sasha, concerned for his well-being, insists the team goes looking for him, suggesting his might have tripped and fallen somewhere. Houston is assigned to stay and watch the headquarters. During the search, T.C. is shoved down a flight of stairs, prompting the group to return to their headquarters. The team tries their cell phones to call for help, but there appears to be no service, despite T.C. making a phone call only an hour earlier. Agitated, T.C. barges the front door with a steel gurney, and after some help from the team, they make a chilling discovery: The opened front door somehow only leads to more corridors, rather than it leading outside. When Sasha checks the back of the doors, they see that these doors bear the same spray-painted message that appeared on the front door earlier in the day: "DEATH AWAITS".

Taking leadership over the situation, Lance tries two different strategies to escape. They try prying off the bars on the windows, but discover them impossible to pull off with their hands. They try getting someone's attention by screaming out the windows, however, they realize they are quite far from civilization. T.C. notes that he has the tools to take them off, but they are in the van outside.

Realizing the danger they are in, the panicked team tries to come up with explanations of their scenario. Houston rationalizes that they might have gotten turned around somehow, explaining the phenomena with the front door. He notes that it's still dark outside, which suggests that their watches might be 2 hours behind, and that it is 6:30 AM, rather than 8:30 AM, an effect of an electronic anomaly., which angers T.C.

The exhausted team rests in the lobby, taking a brief nap, while Lance takes the opportunity to record his feelings. He mentions the exhausted nature of the group, and how his plan is simply to wait until Kenny shows up, despite it now being 1:12 PM. He mentions that he hasn't slept for 20 hours at this point. He tells the camera that he is going to set his alarm for an hour, then take a nap.

During the team's nap in the lobby, a production lamp suddenly comes crashing down on the floor, startling the team awake, and destroying some much needed light, taking them down to only their flashlights and camera lights. Lance mentions that it is now 8 PM, and opens the cooler to reveal that their food has completely rotted away, now prevalent with mold and maggots. He mentions their supplies still includes bottles of clean water, reassuring himself and the team that they should be okay.

The team makes a group decision to try a new escape route. Following a map they see on a wall, they climb up to the roof to use the fire escape which T.C. mentioned seeing earlier, only to find stairs leading to a blank wall. While validating their path on the map, they suddenly hear Matt's cries for help in the distance. After losing the direction of the sound, the team ends up in an empty room with a metal bedframe. They see the bed slightly shift, before it is thrown into the air above their heads, sending them into another panic down the halls.

Cutting to the team now resting in a small room, Lance mentions that they went looking for another stairwell, to no avail. He comments on the complex layout of the room, acknowledging that it feels like the building is changing all around them. He mentions the team's need for sleep and food, and that he hopes to sleep again uninterrupted until he is fully-rested. They decide to sleep in shifts, so that someone can keep watch. This sleep doesn't last long, as Lance reveals that while they were asleep, someone carved the word "HELLO" into Sasha's back.

A short while later, Lance hears Matt's voice over the walkie-talkie. Matt comments that he is freezing, while Lance reassures him that they will find him and help him. Houston ponders how they will find him in their own lost state, but T.C. notes that he couldn't be far, due to the seemingly short-range of the walkie-talkies. The measurement he makes is within 200 yards for a clear signal.

Now exploring the haunted hospital, the team is in full pursuit of Matt. While discussing the range of the radios, a figure in a hospital gown runs behind T.C. into a room nearby. Believing this to be Matt, the team rushes into the room, only to discover a woman in a hospital gown facing the corner. Lance approaches the woman, who turns around and shrieks, disfiguring her face into a distorted appearance in the process. This horrifies the team, who, once again, flee into the halls, diving into another small room and cutting their lights. Unfortunately, the team loses Houston in the chaos, as Houston is forced to wander the halls in the dark after his flashlight dies.

Lance, now defeated and terrified, addresses the state of their situation, and is now uncertain how much longer they will last. He accepts that they are not alone in the hospital. When the team wakes up from a brief nap, they find hospital wristbands attached to them, each one with their name on it. Sasha is furious, blaming T.C. for falling asleep, who is remorseful and just as angry.

The team is now sentenced to wander aimlessly, looking for Matt, Houston, or an exit. Fed up with Lance's insistence on filming their attempt to survive, Sasha is suddenly grabbed by an arm through an open window-hole in a metal door. Freeing herself, Sasha joins the team in a sprint, but not before falling to the ground, telling the team that she cannot get up from fear. Lance takes the time to reassure her, telling her that she can find the strength to continue. Sasha agrees, and the group continues.

They quickly find Matt, who is now wearing a hospital gown and wristband, acting noticeably different from before he disappeared. Matt is resigned to the fetal position in a large empty room, the team brings him to his feet and retreat to a safer room after hearing approaching noises nearby. Matt is difficult to communicate with, but mentions that he knows the way out. He notes that they can leave once they are "better". He mentions through the third-person that his progress is slow, but that he is responding to treatment. He reassures them by stating that "he will help you, too".

After a short rest, the team is awoken by several arms coming through the ceiling and walls, accompanied by aggressive growling. Fleeing from the room, the team ends up in the bathrooms, with the familiar empty bathtubs littering the ground. However, they hear the sound of water, and find one bathtub full of blood. Plotting their next move, they turn to see Matt standing over the tub, looking into the crimson liquid. Lance asks T.C. to pull Matt away from the tub, and when T.C. complies, T.C. is grabbed by a figure from inside the bloody water, pulling him fully into the tub. Unable to find T.C. inside the tub, they push it over, pouring out all the blood, but find nothing inside.

Now down to three members of the team left, Lance, Sasha, and Matt continue exploring the hospital, being taunted by roars and screams of anguish around every corner. They find an elevator and despite the power being out, suggest using the elevator shaft as a means to get to another building on the grounds. Unable to open the elevator door on his own, Lance insists that Sasha stay with Matt so that he can find something to pry the door open with. Lance successfully breaks off a metal bar off of an upturned gurney, but is distracted by a a small red object on the ground in the corner of the room. Moving over to investigate, Lance realizes that the object is a severed tongue, and after seeing a splatter of blood drip down from above him, he looks up to see a disfigured man in a hospital gown crouched in the corner of the ceiling, snarling at him. Lance rushes out of the room screaming, turning the camera to show the tongueless demon in full pursuit of him. Outrunning the specter, Lance reaches the elevator shaft and begins prying open the door. Once the door is full opened, a stoic Lance brings the camera towards the dark hallway from which he came from. Unsure if he is still being chased, his uncertainty is quickly answered when the tongueless demon suddenly emerges from the darkness, as Lance and Sasha struggle to barricade the door against his assault. As the two hold off the demon, Matt suddenly rises from the floor, picks a camera up, and records himself purposefully falling to his death in the elevator shift, giggling as he does.

After the tongueless demon finally gives up, Lance and Sasha realize that Matt has vanished. Quickly searching around, the find his body at the bottom of the elevator shaft, and realize that Matt jumped to his death. The pair climb down the elevator shaft until they reach the bottom, confirming Matt's death with a pulse check. At the bottom, the two realize that they are now in the service tunnels, with Lance reflecting that on Kenny's words, that the tunnels connect all the buildings. Lance and Sasha continue down the hallway, becoming discouraged at the seemingly endless tunnel. Exhausted, Sasha suddenly drops to the floor and vomits blood. She cries out for her mom, as Lance comforts her. The feed on a camera show that the timestamp is being scrambled, making it uncertain how long they've been trapped inside for. The pair trek down a little more, before resting against a wall together. While they briefly rest, a thick fog rolls in, and when it finally dissipate, Sasha has disappeared. Lance, alarmed at the disappearance of his only other surviving member, cries out for her. Desperate, Lance pulls out his EVP recorder. Earlier, Lance was unable to get a response. This time, when he asks the spirits what they want from him, all he hears on the replay is the screams and growls of hundreds of demons. This response finally gets Lance to completely break down in tears.

In a close-up camera angle, Lance mentions that he doesn't need the light anymore, his eyes accustomed to the dark, only turning the light on if necessary. He copes with his scenario by comparing the endless tunnels to being like a game. He curses at his audience, telling them that this footage is for them. Starving, Lance resorts to bashing a rat with a metal pole, and devouring it raw. Alone and with his mental state at an all-time low, Lance breaks out in laughter, taunting the demons for the sounds that have been tormenting him.

Lance suddenly finds a door. Scared but hopeful, Lance opens the door and enters the room. The room is a mess, and appears to be an operating room covered in clutter. Diagrams of brains litter the trashed room, while graphic photos of surgeries are pinned unto a clothesline. Lance explores further, discovering an entire ward of rooms. Eventually, he comes across a room with occult rituals all over. The room is decorated with satanic imagery and medical books. Strange writings, runes and sigils occupy every space in the room. Panicked, Lance pans over to find the room suddenly occupied with Dr. Friedkin, two nurses, and a patient on the operating table. They appear to be performing a lobotomy, when the the medical team stops to look up at Lance. Lance, dumbfounded, kicks over a bucket, and when he pans back to the room, Dr. Friedkin's distorted face appears, growling at him. The camera is suddenly dropped, and Lance's screams are heard. We hear him insist that he's not crazy, before a metal object is struck and one final scream fills the room. When the camera cuts back, we see Lance with a bleeding pale eye, implying that he was lobotomized. He claims that he is "so much better now", and that he can finally go home. With one last sign-off, Lance ends the recording.

2: Sasha.

Sasha Parker, along with Lance, T.C., Matt, and Houston arrive at the Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, ready to investigate rumored hauntings for the paranormal investigative show, "Grave Encounters". Initially, she appears both skeptical and open-minded about the possibility of encountering genuine paranormal activity. She is the one behind the camera for all of the behind the scenes footage, notably filming the awkward reaction of Morgan Turner, and filming a behind the scenes interview with Lance, asking him about his own beliefs about the supernatural. Lance responds by acknowledging his hopes of finding something, but following up with his pessimistic disbelief that they will ever find anything, opting instead to at least make the episode entertaining.

During the tour with Kenny in the service tunnels, Sasha jumps at the sight of her own shadow cast by the camera light.

When the night investigation commences, Sasha remains vigilant and analytical, helping debunk minor noises and occurrences with rational explanations, such as finding a family of rats making eerie sounds. However, her skepticism starts to wane as increasingly inexplicable events occur, such as a wheelchair moving and a door slamming shut.

Sasha decides to use her recorder for an EVP session. While listening closely, Sasha and the crew hear a distance scream, leading to a pivotal moment when Sasha’s hair inexplicably lifts on its own. This experience visibly shakes her,

Sasha is one of crew members of the Grave Encounters team, serving as a paranormal investigator alongside Lance Preston. Her journey through the film is a harrowing descent from rational skepticism to profound terror and desperation.

This experience visibly shakes her, pushing her from skepticism to genuine fear. She demands on returning to the headquarters, signaling her growing apprehension about the hospital's supernatural elements.

After deciding to pack up, Matt, who is in charge of collecting all the cameras, vanishes. The team is alerted to Matt's disappearance, and remarkably, Sasha is the one who insists they go searching for him, fearing that he may be hurt. Having collected herself, Sasha gears up with the rest of the team, searching the abandoned hospital for Matt, leaving Houston behind at headquarters.

Her initial skepticism is replaced by pure survival instinct as the crew encounters increasingly terrifying phenomena, such as endless corridors. Sasha is the one to notice that the door which paradoxically led to more corridors (which was initially the front door leading outside) is marked with spray paint: "DEATH AWAITS", indicating that this was somehow the same front door. During this time, they realize the sun doesn't appear to rise, marking an endless night. Kenny, who was supposed to unlock the front door at 6AM, never appears to show up.

Sasha is shown to be much more terrified than the rest of the crew. As the team looks for solutions to escape, Sasha is seen clinging closely to the rest of the crew, following the team as they exhaust their escape options. During segments in their headquarters, Sasha is often located tightly balled up in a corner, her back to the wall. Whenever she is holding a camera, she is heard whimpering and quietly sobbing to herself.

While investigating the hospital for Matt, the team is startled after a bedframe is thrown at them by an unseen entity. They take off running, before hiding in a small room. The team decides to rest, agreeing to take turns in shifts on who will stand watch. Despite their efforts, Sasha has the word "HELLO" carved into her back, which deeply unsettles her. Suddenly, Matt's voice appears on the walkie-talkie, and the team agree that the short-ranged radios mean that Matt is nearby.

The team continues their search for Matt, but ends up encountering a woman facing a corner. Upon approach, the woman turns around, distorts her face, and roars at the team, sending them into a frenzy down the dark halls. During this frenzy, Houston is lost in the commotion, doomed to walk down the endless corridors in the dark as his flashlight dies on him.

While the team takes another rest in their new saferoom, T.C. falls asleep while on watch, which Sasha scolds him for. After they all awaken, they all realize they have hospital wristbands on them, each one with their names typed on them, which further terrifies Sasha.

Now missing two crew members, the team recalibrates and agrees to focus on searching for an exit, agreeing to go back for Matt and Houston once they have help. During their search, Sasha begins to butt heads with Lance, arguing about not wanting to film any more of their already terrifying experience. As they argue, Sasha is suddenly grabbed by an arm through a door window, which wraps around her throat. Quickly saved by Lance, Sasha sprints away, before dropping to the floor. Petrified and exhausted, Sasha attempts to give up, but Lance comforts her, goading her to be strong and carrying on through the hospital.

Back on her feet, the remaining team members find Matt, who is rocking against a column in a large empty room, wearing a hospital gown. He appears to be in an altered mental state, and the team moves him to another saferoom when they hear noises approach them.

They ask Matt questions, but he is delirious, acting as if he was a patient at the hospital. He tells them that they can all leave once they are all better, stating that "he can make them all better". As the team once again rests, Sasha begins to feel ill. Lance notices her temperature has been raised, and mentions that she might have come down with a fever.

The team's sleep is interrupted by a barrage of arms coming out of the ceiling and walls reaching straight for them. The team makes a break for it, ending up in the bathroom full of tubs, where Kenny had mentioned a girl slit her wrists in one of the tubs. Much like the warning given to Kenny's story, the team hears running water, and spies a bathtub filled with blood. Matt is standing over it, staring deep into the murky tub. Lance asks T.C. to pull Matt to safety, which results in T.C. being pulled by a dark figure into the tub, with both T.C. and the figure vanishing completely.

The final three members walk through the dark hospital, reduced to their flashlights and camera lights. Hearing noises all around them, they come across an elevator. Though the power is out and the elevator is inoperational, the team decides to try their luck with the elevator shaft, hoping to climb down it. Lance goes to find an object to pry open the elevator doors, while Sasha stays behind with Matt.

Hearing Lance being chased by a tongueless demon, Sasha assists Lance in blocking the hallway door, keeping the aggressive ghost out. While they fend off the entity, Matt suddenly picks up a camera, chuckles to himself, and purposefully falls down the elevator shaft to his death. Successfully fending off the tongueless demon, Lance and Sasha discover Matt's body at the bottom of the shaft, and make their way down.

At the bottom floor, they step out to find themselves in the service tunnels. They make their way through absolute darkness, but Lance points out that they should've hit a junction where they were. Sasha suddenly drops to her knees, vomiting blood, crying out for her mother. Realizing they are in an infinite loop of tunnels, the duo rest against a wall, taking a small nap together, with Sasha resting peacefully on Lance's shoulder. As they fall asleep, a fog rolls in, fully covering the two of them. As the fog rolls out, Sasha is no longer with Lance, leaving Lance completely alone for the rest of the film.

3: TC.

T.C. Gibson arrives at Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital with the rest of the "Grave Encounters" crew. After filming all of the interviews with the locals, investigator Sasha Parker records a brief behind-the-scenes interview with host Lance Preston. As the interview comes to a close, Sasha pans out to see T.C. beating equipment technician Matt White at a game of pickup football. Lance calls out for T.C. to get a time-lapse shot of the hospital, and the scene cuts to the sun going down on the building.

As the lockdown commences, caretaker Kenny Sandoval wishes them good luck, and actually locks the door, which T.C. is surprised by, asking Lance what they should do if T.C. needs more equipment from the van. T.C. is seen jovial with the upbeat crew, particularly when Matt is annoying Lance on the phone with Kenny. As the night progresses, T.C. remains focused on his work, filming as the crew debunks minor occurrences throughout the old rickety building, such as a family of rats held out in the service tunnels. A disappointed but otherwise unsurprised Lance gives up on the idea of capturing anything supernatural, and asks T.C. to get some creepy interior shots around the hospital for them to edit into.

Now completely alone, T.C. walks around the hospital, filming the dark interiors for some B-Roll footage. His behavior is notably, as he jokingly taunts the empty halls, making remarks about the chess-like floor and the desolate kitchen. T.C. is ecstatic upon finding a spare wheelchair in the middle of the halls, and comments how excited Lance will be to get the chair on camera, wondering how the crew managed to miss it when it was in plain view. Suddenly, T.C.'s phone rings, and he places his camera down at his feet to answer. He starts chatting with his wife, who called him about their crying daughter, scared of monsters under the bed. As T.C. helps calm down their daughter, the wheelchair starts to move slightly, however, T.C. is unable to see this. After the call, T.C. steps into a small shower room, mentioning how cold it is. As he turns to leave, he captures video evidence of the door slamming behind him. Assuming its the crew playing a prank on him, he demands they reveal themselves, however, nobody steps forward. Realizing he's all alone, T.C. radios for the rest of the team, who quickly come to investigate the area.

The team attempts to debunk the footage, with Lance and hired psychic Houston Grey even attempting to communicate with the dead, to little success. It is only once they give up on the séance that they hear something slam just down the hall. They follow the source of the noise and find a metal gurney on its side, with one wheel still spinning, proof that this was a recent provocation. Perplexed, the crew hears the sound of footsteps directly above them, and radios to Matt (who is still at headquarters) to verify if anybody is above them on the fourth floor. After Matt declines that anybody is there, the team heads up to the fourth floor to investigate.

Up on the fourth floor, Houston calls out to suspected intruders, shouting that the team has a permit and that the supposed pranksters do not. This attempt of communication bothers T.C., and he asks Houston to keep his voice down, leading to a minor argument between the two. Sasha interrupts this argument, suggesting that they might have found proof of the paranormal. Sasha tells the team that she will attempt to record an EVP, and upon playback, they hear a distant scream. As Sasha raises the recorder to her ear to listen further, her hair is suddenly lifted up by an unseen force, which sends her and the team into a panic. Sasha, mortified, demands to be taken to the lobby, and Lance sends Houston to escort her there, demanding he returns to conduct further investigations. Lance is clearly enthusiastic about finding undeniable proof of the paranormal, but T.C. is less than excited at the prospect of sticking around in the dark hallways with Lance. After another failed séance with Houston, Lance, and T.C., Lance takes some spirit photos, revealing themselves to be surrounded by ghosts, however, they are unable to see these photos at the time. T.C. comments on Lance's enthusiasm to find further evidence, reminding him that there are people who hunt for bigfoot and the loch ness monster their entire lives, never finding them. Unable to find further evidence, Lance tells the crew that they should start packing up and heading out, content with the footage they have.

The trio begin to head back, however, they get lost in the process, the maze of hallways proving a challenge for them. The trio argue with each other, frustrated when they realize they've walked in a large circle. Upon return, they note that their radios were not working. Lance orders Matt to gather the remaining cameras, who verifies the working walkie-talkies one last time before leaving. After filming an outro for the episode, Lance and the rest of the crew note that Matt has not returned. Concerned, Sasha suggests they go looking for him, in case he is hurt somewhere. T.C. splits up, and searches up a stairwell for Matt. T.C. hears something at the bottom of the steps, and as he investigates, something shoves him from behind, sending him tumbling down the steps. Injured, T.C. cries out for the others, who immediately come to his aide, lifting him off the ground and to his feet.

Back at headquarters, T.C.'s anger intensifies. Although seemingly uninjured, he becomes vocal about frustration, especially towards Kenny's lack of arrival, who is now currently late to opening the front door. His fear manifests as aggression, particularly when he attempts to break down the front door with a steel hospital gurney. Although Lance is initially reluctant to break down the door for financial liability, Lance decides to assist T.C. when T.C. declares he no longer cares about his paycheque and just wants to leave and get some sleep. The entire team is speechless as they finally batter down the front door, revealing more corridors. Their fear intensifies further when Sasha notes the spray-painted "DEATH AWAITS" on the doors, confirming that they were indeed the front hospital doors, which have somehow warped around on themselves.

At this point, T.C. becomes increasingly hostile and agitated at his fellow team members. He becomes fixated on finding an escape, shoving Sasha to the side so he can break open the bars to the windows with his bare hands, calling it a "man's job". Unable to pry open the bars, he lashes out at Lance, remarking how they should've never locked the doors, as he has the necessary equipment in his van. He becomes more upset at hearing the time is now 8:34AM, declaring he had another gig to get to. T.C. then puts down Houston when Houston is angered that he is missing an audition. The team finds windows without bars, but Sasha notes that they are incredibly high up. The team sticks their heads out the windows, shouting out for help. Lance tells them that the sun should've be up by now, which baffles the crew as it is clearly nighttime. Houston tries to rationalize their circumstances with his some theories about electrical anomalies, but T.C. dismisses them as "fucking r*******".

Exhausted, T.C. rests with the remaining crew in the lobby, but this nap is quickly interrupted when a lamp suddenly comes crashing down on the floor, pushing their light sources down to just their cameras and flashlights. They realize their food is suddenly completely moldy, but Lance reaffirms that they still have plenty of water left and should be okay.

The team hides in a small room, and agree to rest once more. They agree to sleep in shifts, but are awoken when Sasha is revealed to have the word "HELLO" carved into her back, which suspends the team's belief, as there was no possibly way for someone to do that to her while they slept. Lance orders T.C. to film the carving, and is happy to put the camera down when Lance then tells him to end the recording.

Unfortunately, the team loses Houston in the chaos, and Houston is forced to wander the halls in the dark after his flashlight dies.

The team huddles up again in another small room, and rest once more, again taking shifts. When they awaken, wristbands with their names on them appear on their wrists.

They quickly find Matt, now sporting a hospital gown and wristband, who is completely changed mentally. Matt is resigned to the fetal position in a large empty room, and the team brings him to his feet and escape to a safer room with him after hearing approaching noises nearby.

Unable to find T.C. inside the tub, they tip the tub, pouring out all the blood, but find nothing inside. T.C. is never seen again.

4: Matt.

Matt White, the technical brain of the "Grave Encounters" crew, arrives at Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital alongside his fellow crew members, Lance Preston, Sasha Parker, T.C. Gibson, and the later addition, Houston Grey. With his technical expertise, Matt is primarily responsible for the equipment, ensuring that every chilling moment of their paranormal investigation is captured.

The investigation begins with a series of interviews, during which Matt is busy setting up and ensuring the proper functioning of cameras and sound equipment. He observes the interviews, and is often seen smoking while holding a boom mic. During one interview, Kenny scolds him for smoking inside the building, which Matt obliges by putting out his lit cigarette.

As night falls, the crew locks down in the hospital. Initially, Matt remains focused on his technical duties, and Matt's personality begins to show as a goofy fun-loving guy, pestering Lance while he's on the phone with Kenny, and pretending to be a demon on camera. However, the atmosphere shifts palpably when a wheelchair moves by itself, and a door slams shut, trapping T.C. A turning point comes when Sasha's hair is mysteriously lifted by an unseen force. Matt, who later views the recorded footage in headquarters, is in complete awe. This moment marks a shift from a controlled investigation to a confrontation with unknown forces that seem to defy all rational explanation.

As the crew attempts to regroup and understand what's happening, Lance becomes lost in the maze of hallways, as he navigates the confusing corridors with his camera, trying to document their twisted journey. The layout of the hospital seems to change inexplicably, adding to the crew's disorientation and fear. Meanwhile, Matt is unable to get a hold of the team over the walkie-talkie's, and once the crew finally finds each other again, Matt tests the radios, which mysteriously work again.

With the crew uneasy and Lance frustrated that he is unable to capture further evidence of the supernatural, the crew decides to call it quits. When Matt is sent to collect cameras from around the hospital, and he ventures out alone. Matt is surprisingly quick and brave as he gathers the cameras, but is suddenly distracted when he enters the window room. Matt is shocked when he finds a window opened, the same window that Kenny had pointed out earlier. He attempts to contact Lance, but is interrupted when he hears a door close in another room. Convinced it's just the team walking around nearby, Matt goes to investigate, which results in his temporary disappearance.

As the night begins to unfold in terrifying ways, Sasha urges the crew to look for Matt, fearing he might be injured. The crew then diverts their attention to finding Matt, but not before being terrorized by the living patients of the asylum.

Matt isn't heard from for hours, when his voice is suddenly heard over the walkie-talkie, commenting on how freezing cold he is. Lance reassures him that they will find him, and T.C. asserts that Matt couldn't be further than 200 yards away due to the radios' short ranges. The team mistakes a woman in a nightgown as Matt, which ends up leading them to further chaos.

The crew, minus Houston, finally find Matt, but his mental state has drastically changed. He is found rocking back and forth, wearing a hospital gown and wristband, and speaking incoherently, as if he has become one of the asylum's patients. His behavior is erratic and delusional, suggesting a profound psychological breakdown or supernatural influence. Matt comments that an unnamed individual will let them leave once they are better, and that this man can help them feel better, just like he did Matt.

Unable to find T.C. inside the tub, they tip the tub, pouring out all the blood, but find nothing inside.

The Grave Encounters survivors find an elevator shaft, and Lance comes up with the idea to climb down the shaft and use the service tunnels to find the other buildings, as Kenny had mentioned they were all connected. Lance says he needs to find an object able to pry open the elevator doors, and leaves Sasha and Matt on their own while he searches for the object. Although Lance finds a metal pipe, he also accidentally encounters a violent tongueless patient, who chases Lance back to the group. As Lance and Sasha are holding off the deformed patient off, Matt picks up a camera, records himself laughing, and then deliberately falls to his death down the elevator shaft, screaming while he does. This act marks a tragic end to his journey, one plagued by fear, confusion, and ultimately madness.

After the tongueless patient leaves, Lance and Sasha look around for a once-again missing Matt, only to discover his body at the bottom of the elevator shaft. The pair climb down the elevator shaft until they reach the bottom, confirming Matt's death with a pulse check.

5: Houston.

After Lance Preston and the Grave Encounters crew wrap up their interviews, Houston is purposefully filmed stepping out his car unto the scene. Lance narrates this introduction, announcing that due to the massive size of Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, they have hired Houston Grey, a psychic-medium, to assist in their investigation.

Houston commences a daytime walkthrough of the asylum with Lance, and claims to feel the souls of the spirits trapped in the building. Incredibly, Houston even dramatically "senses" the spirit of a young girl in a bathtub, and declares that she took her own life, verifying an earlier story heard in the tour with Kenny Sandoval. However, after the cameras cut, Houston laughs in relief, revealing the entire psychic premonition to be an act, which Lance himself approves of.

Houston is present for the nighttime lockdown, and assists the team in exploring the abandoned hospital. Initially, nothing seems to happen despite Houston's best attempts at using his clairvoyant abilities. After quickly debunking a few minor scares, the Houston spends time with the crew in the main entrance, chatting and relaxing, before assisting with Lance setting up a few fake pieces of evidence.

As they are concluding their investigation, T.C. takes a quick phone call from his wife and daughter, which results in a wheelchair moving and a door slamming behind him, sealing him into a room. Houston, who had been playing the part of a clairvoyant, finds himself genuinely startled and confused by these events. Despite this, he nervously assists the crew in finding further evidence, only to watch Sasha's hair shockingly move on its own. Terrified, Sasha demands to be escorted back downstairs, and Lance orders Houston to get her back to safety and return. Scared, Houston tells Lance that he would also like to stay at headquarters, but Lance insists he return, explaining he "needs another face on camera". Houston deliberates, insisting he is not able to continue the investigation, which resorts in Lance ordering him to be a professional and stay in character. Houston reluctantly agrees, and reassures Sasha while walking her back to safety.

The scene cuts back to Lance and Houston being filmed in a hallway by T.C., with Lance explaining that they will attempt to make contact with the ghosts. Houston is clearly in a frightened daze, with Lance nudging the horrified man as to remind him to call upon the spirits. Houston fruitlessly attempts to summon the dead, which further frustrates Lance. Houston suggests that the ghost has left, and the team takes a few spirit photos (which unbeknownst to the team reveal a plethora of spirits) before deciding to pack up and head home. As they attempt to return to headquarters, the once-familiar hallways twist and turn into an unrecognizable maze. Houston, along with the crew, becomes disoriented, finding themselves unable to navigate back to their base of operations.

After a long trek back, the three finally make their way back to the main entrance. The confused team explains that they were unable to hear each other on the radios, but confirm that they do indeed work. After confirming their radios work, Lance orders Matt to grab all the gear around the hospital, which culminates in him disappearing. Houston passively watches as T.C. grows agitated at the locked front door, and at Sasha's fearful state while rewatching the footage. The team films an outro while waiting for Matt, confused at why Matt is taking so long to gather the gear. Worried he might be hurt, the team decides to look for him. Houston opts to stay at the main entrance, with T.C. sarcastically thanking him for his help. Houston reiterates that he's not happy to stay behind on his own, either, while lazily slacking on a chair.

Upon return, Houston receives word that Matt's equipment was found, with no sign of him. Furthermore, T.C. was shoved by an unseen force down a flight of stairs. Angered by Kenny's no-show, the team tries to call him, but are unable to get a clear signal. Houston's role becomes more passive as the situation deteriorates. He watches in horror as T.C. attempts to break through the front door, only to reveal more endless corridors. The appearance of a spray-painted "DEATH AWAITS" message on the barged door, which was clearly seen on the front door earlier, only further cements his fear.

The now completely distressed team searches for an exit, but to no avail. Every exit seems to turn into more corridors, dead-ends, and the bars on the windows prevent them from using the windows as an escape. Lance remembers some windows don't have bars on them, but Houston notes that these windows are up 80 feet in the air, and would likely kill the crew if they attempted that route. Sasha notes the time as 8:34 AM, which agitates Houston who declares he has an audition to attend, which further angers an already upset T.C., who tells him that nobody cares about his career, prompting a verbal argument between the two. Lance tells them that the sun should've be up by now, which baffles the crew as it is clearly nighttime. Houston offers rational explanations, suggesting they might be disoriented or experiencing an electronic anomaly with their timekeeping. However, his suggestions are met with frustration, particularly from T.C., who calls his claims "fucking r*******".

Exhausted, Houston rests with the remaining crew in the lobby, but this nap is quickly interrupted when a lamp suddenly comes crashing down on the floor, pushing their light sources down to just their cameras and flashlights. They realize their food is suddenly completely moldy, but Lance reaffirms that they still have plenty of water left.

The team hides in a small room, and agree to rest once more. They agree to sleep in shifts, but are awoken when Sasha is revealed to have the word "HELLO" carved into her back, which suspends the team's belief, as there was no possibly way for someone to do that to her while they slept. Houston is seen gently reassuring her through this.

Unfortunately, the team loses Houston in the chaos, and Houston is forced to wander the halls in the dark after his flashlight dies.

Completely separated from the team, Houston desperately cries out for them. The audience sees as doors creak open all around him, but Houston is left in the pitch-black, unable to observe the supernatural happenings all around him. Houston hugs the walls, panicking for his colleagues to find him. He is seen jumping at sounds and growls all around him, holding his backpack in front of him in defense. Suddenly, he is picked up by the throat and lifted into the air by an unseen force. He is heard choking, suggesting he is being strangled, while he calls out for help and seemingly beats at an invisible person. After crying out for help one last time, a bright blast of light is shown behind him, launching Houston down the empty hallway. Houston is then seen lying quietly limp on the floor, dead from this impact.

Now, second.

Film student Alex Wright is a fan of Grave Encounters, a found footage supernatural horror film which the entire public aside from him believes to be fictional. He posts an online plea for information about the film and receives a message from someone named "DeathAwaits6". The message leads Alex to the mother of Sean Rogerson, the actor who played Lance Preston in Grave Encounters. She believes that Sean is still alive but Alex discovers that she has dementia and does not realize that her son is dead.

Alex realizes the cast and crew from Grave Encounters are all missing or have died, except for the directors, the Vicious Brothers, who are actually interns of the first film's producer Jerry Hartfield and were not directly involved. Alex meets Hartfield, who confesses that the film was actual found footage. Discovering that the Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital is actually an abandoned asylum in British Columbia, Canada, Alex and his friends—Trevor Thomspon, Jennifer Parker, Tessa Hamill, and Jared Lee—travel there to meet DeathAwaits6 and discover a Ouija board. The group use it to communicate with the spirits, realizing that their online contact is not a person, but a paranormal entity, which turns violent and attacks them.

The group make their way out before being stopped by a security guard. As they argue, the guard goes inside the asylum to investigate a noise. The group hear gun shots and go back inside to check what happened, finding that the guard has disappeared. They are attacked by the spirits and become separated; Jared gets lost and is violently hurled out of a window while Tessa has her head crushed by an invisible force. Alex, Trevor, and Jennifer regroup and witness as the guard is fatally electrocuted in an operation table. They manage to escape the asylum and return to their hotel room, but the elevator leads them right back to the tunnels beneath the asylum.

Alex, Trevor, and Jennifer meet a lobotomized Sean and discover that he has been trapped inside the asylum, surviving on toilet water and rats for over nine years. Sean explains that the reason the asylum is haunted is due to Dr. Arthur Friedkin's satanic experiments and rituals which merged the spirit world and the physical world. He shows them a red door and reveals it is the only way out, but is wrapped in chains. Sean also provides them a map he created explaining how bigger the asylum is and how its layout constantly changes. While the group sleeps for the night, Sean, compelled by Dr. Friedkin, strangles Trevor to death and steals Alex's equipment to cut the chains on the door.

When Sean goes through it, he realizes that the door leads nowhere. The asylum's entities instruct a now-deranged Sean to kill Alex and Jennifer; they wake up and stumble upon Dr. Friedkin's satanic altar as he performs a lobotomy, then sacrifices an infant. Sean finds them and demands to hand over their footage in order to "finish the film", which is the only way to escape the asylum. During the struggle, a void opens up on the wall and sucks Sean towards an unknown fate. Realizing that Sean was being honest in how to escape, Alex kills Jennifer by smashing her face with the camera, thus finishing the film. He then exits the asylum through the door, which leads him to the Los Angeles outskirts and is arrested while walking down the street at night.

It is revealed that Alex's footage has been made into a Grave Encounters sequel, with Alex and Hartfield claiming that everything the public has seen is staged and that it is "just a film"; Alex also tells the public not to go anywhere near the asylum as it is not worth it as the footage cuts to a black screen with the numbers "49, 14, 122, 48". If searched on Google Maps, comes up as the approximate latitude and longitude coordinates of Riverview Hospital, where most of the film's story takes place.

Characters.

1: Alex.

Alex Wright is first seen in a video review of found-footage horror film "Grave Encounters" on YouTube during the cold open's video review montage. In a meta twist, Alex is seen criticizing the original movie's ending, describing it as "the worst end pieces of my life". He tells his audience that he recommends passing on the movie, giving it one skull of four, which appears to be his own personal rating system. He concludes his weekly movie review, "Alex's Movie Madness", urging his viewers to subscribe to his Youtube channel, Alex_moviekid888, and wishing them a happy Halloween.

On October 31st, 2011, film student Trevor Thompson walks into Alex Wright's dorm room during a Halloween party to find him masturbating to porn on his computer. Angered, Alex scolds his friend for not knocking before entering, who makes fun of Alex for not enjoying the party. Trevor encourages Alex to find someone to hook up with, suggesting mutual friend and film student Jennifer Parker as a likely candidate. Alex seems interested in pursuing Jennifer, but is discouraged by his lack of costume for the costume party downstairs. Trevor, not allowing his friend to sit alone in his room all night, gives Alex a costume from freshman week, which consists of a dress and wig, and convinces him to put it on and join the party.

At the party, Alex is seen drinking and having a good time. He is first spotted by Trevor speaking to Jennifer about the state of horror movies, expressing his opinion about horror movies, by suggesting they get rid of CGI and cheap effects and go back to using practical effects, to which Jennifer agrees. Alex then compares himself to horror movie director Wes Craven, before the scene cuts to Alex ranting about how he will become the greatest horror director of his generation. He celebrates with a shot, before the scene cuts to him throwing up in a toilet, all while being recorded by Trevor.

In the morning, we see Alex hungover from the night before, still in a dress and laying in his bed with a plastic male sex blow-up doll. Trevor wakes him up by spanking him with a wet towel, resulting in Alex kicking the doll out of his bed. As Alex washes up, Trevor suggests Alex check his Facebook timeline, and we see pictures of Trevor's scrotum on Alex's unconscious face posted online, which angers Alex, prompting him to untag himself from the photos.

Later that day, we see Trevor smoking marijuana out of his bong while Alex scrolls on his computer, looking for comments on his film reviews. Alex notes that he received a video response to his latest review on "Grave Encounters", which consists of a video clip of Lance Preston, protagonist of the original Grave Encounters, in the marked-up patient room, stumbling around in the dark towards the camera. Alex remarks how he doesn't recall that scene being in the movie, and notes the stranger's username as "DEATH AWAITS".

The film cuts to November 7th, 2011, with Alex's slasher movie, subsequently titled "Slash N' Burn", starting at scene 03. The camera pans from a view of the Seattle skyline, before showing Jennifer and an unnamed film student, playing in-movie characters Stacey and Gary, making out in a top-down convertible. Stacey, who is dressed as a cheerleader, asks Gary to stop, but Gary, who is dressed like a high-school jock, tries pushing Stacey to continue going further with him. After forcing Stacey to kiss him, Stacey demands Gary stop, before slapping him across the face. Gary calls her a bitch, before launching into an expositional monologue about how it has been exactly one year since Stacey's father dissapeared and how she should move on. Sexually frustrated, Gary leaves the car alone, much to Stacey's surprise. The camera follows Gary as he calls Stacey a tease, before lighting up a cigarette. The camera gives the audience a POV shot of someone lurking in the woods, stalking Gary who is completely unaware that he is not alone. After hearing a branch snap, Gary calls out to the sound, insisting that this individual's prank is "not funny anymore". The camera jumps back to Stacey, who is growing impatient and slightly worried about Gary's disappearance. She leaves the car, and finds Gary standing alone, facing opposite her into the foggy woods. Stacey apologizes, and asks Gary to leave as she is getting cold. Realizing that Gary is not responding to her, Stacey taps Gary's shoulder, which causes Gary's decapitated head to roll off of his shoulders, causing Stacey to over-dramatically scream "No!". The director, Alex, then calls cut, ending the scene.

Alex is seemingly impressed with the scene, calling it "money". He directs Jared to prepare for a bird's-eye shot, and praises Jennifer on her impressive performance. Trevor, who's filming with his own camera, questions the scene, asking Alex how a normal human can remain standing after becoming decapitated. Alex insists that it'll make a great jumpscare, and to trust him on his directorial instincts. Alex then calls Trevor over, as the username "DEATH AWAITS" has left a reply to Alex's message of "Re: who is this?", giving Alex the coordinates: 49.14.122.48. Trevor initially believes it to be a phone-number, but Alex insists that the message contains too many numbers to be a simple phone number. Present for the conversation, Jennifer asksabout the situation with the mysterious user.

The film cuts to a computer lab, with Trevor editing his own personal film, "High Times at Film School", sitting across from Alex who is digging deeper into the original film. Alex explains that he has discovered the original hospital, Riverview Hospital, and that "Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital" was just a filming location pseudonym. He pinpoints the hospital to be located in Vancouver, Canada.

Alex is seen hanging out with Trevor and Jennifer in his room, watching Grave Encounters. Alex is browsing through a forum, lamenting how multiple people assumed Grave Encounters was real. Trevor retorts by reminding him that people thought Blair Witch Project was real, with Jennifer supporting his argument by bringing up the films Paranormal Activity and Apollo 18. Jennifer pauses the original movie on the frame of the disfigured woman, calling out the cheap special effects. Alex is unconvinced, listing how none of the actor's have done anything since the original Grave Encounters movie. Alex pulls up the obituary of Kenny Sandoval, the caretaker in the original movie, announcing that Kenny shot himself in 2004 after "going crazy". Trevor reminds Alex to focus on his own movie, and to not worry so much about Grave Encounters.

Alex shoots another vlog, asking his viewers for more information on Grave Encounters. He asks his viewers to connect himself with anybody involved with the film so that he can gather more information about the background of the movie.

The film jumps to November 21st, 2011, and scene 05 of Alex's movie, "Slash N' Burn", is then shown. Jennifer's character, Stacey, is shown waking up, chained up by her wrists in a desolate shed. She looks around the room she's in to see skulls, hooks, and rusty tools scattered everywhere. She cries out for help, which draws the attention of her captor, a masked man wearing a leather apron. The man pushes a tray of torture tools over to Stacey, before picking up a pair of pliers and telling Stacey that it's "time for your appointment". Stacey begs for mercy, but the man plies out a tooth straight from Stacey's mouth. The man plops Stacey's tooth into a jar, and picks up a small handheld dentist drill. The man warns Stacey that it might hurt, and moves towards Stacey's eye. Alex calls cut, and is seemingly disappointed in the scene.

Alex insists that the scene was fine, but Jennifer pushes him for feedback. Alex tells Jennifer that her performance was not the issue, but Jennifer tells Alex that she rehearsed the scene a few different ways. Trevor is confused by Alex's disappointment, and tells Alex that the footage looks amazing. Alex is bitter, and calls the scene cliché, wanting something more original than what he currently has. Alex calls it a wrap for the day, declaring the he must rewrite the entire third act of his movie, much to the crew's excitement, who announce that they intend to spend their new free-time getting day drunk.

Alex is seen filming another vlog, announcing that he received another message from "DEATH AWAITS". It seems to be a picture of Sean Rogerson (the real name of Lance Preston) and his mother when they were both younger, along with a local phone number from Washington state. Alex then calls the number, and Delia, Sean's mother, answers. Alex wants to speak with Sean, and setup an interview with him.

On November 23rd, 2011, the film students are seen in a car driving to the Rogerson residence. Alex goes over the plan, that Mrs. Rogerson told Alex that Sean would guaranteed be home at 3PM, and they could do an interview with him. Alex and Trevor bicker over Trevor's handheld camera for his own documentary, "High Times at Film School", and the two knock on the door with mutual friend and cameraman Jared Lee close behind. Delia, an elderly woman, opens the door and invites them in, having been expecting them. Delia offers them coffee or tea, but the film students are much more interested in waiting for Sean. Delia informs them that Sean just stepped out, but will be back soon. Delia says that she is always teasing Sean about being a workaholic, and that he's acting on a new TV series. Delia reminisces on Sean's childhood dreams of becoming an actor, and how delighted he will be when he sees that his fans have come to visit. Trevor is surprised that Sean still lives in his childhood home, and Delia tells them that they may visit his room if they'd like. Upon seeing Sean's room, the students are surprised to see that the room is befit of a younger person, such as a child or teenager. Childhood sports trophies adorn the shelves, and dust has accumulated on the desk, suggesting that nobody has been home for awhile. After snooping through some photos of Sean throughout his life, they are interrupted by Delia's caretaker, who orders them to leave immediately. Although the students inform the caretaker that they have Delia's permission, the caretaker suddenly raises her voice and demands they leave. As they are escorted out, Delia informs them not to fret, as Sean will be back from the hospital soon. Confused by this statement, Alex presses further, and realizes that Delia is talking about Riverview Hospital, where Sean was last seen. Delia excitedly tells Alex that she helped come up with the stage name, "Lance Preston", and the caretaker returns to kick Alex out. Outside, Alex explains the whole situation to Delia's caretaker. The caretaker, exasperated, tells Alex that Delia has intense dementia, is not supposed to answer the phone, and will be in full-time care in January.

On November 28th, 2011, Trevor and Jared are seen listening in on Jennifer yelling at Alex, and quietly enter the dorm room to see Jennifer expressing her anger over Alex missing her play. Alex apologizes, and shows Jennifer the evidence he compiled on Grave Encounters, displaying his full-descent into obsession over the film. Alex tells Jennifer that he called the Vancouver registry office, who had an RCMP file dated March 28th, 2003 involving the Grave Encounters team. Jennifer is only further agitated by this, and leaves Alex, telling him not to worry about her anymore. Alex expresses his remorse about the play to Trevor, but insists that the evidence he has uncovered is far more important. Trevor gives Alex some tough love, and tells him that Jennifer is probably more important than uncovering the truth about Grave Encounters, as it is Alex's only attempt at getting laid, to which Jared agrees. Alex is insulted when Trevor calls it a "conspiracy theory", and then launches into a tirade about how the original team has all been confirmed missing.

Alex then records another vlog, recalling his research so far, and asserting that the events of Grave Encounters is real, and not a movie. He explains that with his friends rightfully not believing him, he just needs proof. He begins formulating a plan to go back to Tacoma and read more articles, before the video glitches out, and his face is digitally disfigured similar to the demons seen in the first movie. Alex is heard through the glitch saying "something just started printing", and a jump cut reveals his printer automatically printing out a call-sheet for music video in L.A., produced by Hartfeld Productions.

Recognizing the name Jerry Hartfeld, Alex shows the evidence to his friends, and announces that he is going to be there for the music video tomorrow. Trevor attempts to discourage Alex, trying to remind Alex about their own movie, but Alex is too far gone. He doesn't see the big deal in being gone for two days, and his friends submit to his plan, clearly becoming fed up with his behaviour.

Alex records a personal vlog, recording himself driving through L.A on his way to Hollywood to attend the music video on the call-sheet. Arriving at the studio, Alex gives the gate attendant the alias "Roberto Smith", and lies to the attendant that he received the call-sheet to be a personal assistant for the music video. The gate attendant lets him through, and Alex parks and enters the studio. Alex witnesses the music video being produced, and notices Jerry Hartfeld, the executive producer of Hartfeld Productions. Jerry notices Alex recording, and calls for cut. Jerry is obviously irritated, asking where the confetti for the music video was, and relaying that they are now two hours behind schedule. Alex confronts Jerry, who is taking a call, and asks for an interview for a documentary he is shooting. Jerry declines the request for an interview, and annoyed by Alex's camera, has security escort Alex off set. As Alex is being hauled off-set, Alex shouts to Jerry that he knows about Grave Encounters, and he knows about Jerry's involvement with it.

Discouraged, Alex is seen sitting in his car, reaffirming that Jerry is clearly hiding something, but unsure on how to proceed next. Jerry suddenly knocks on Alex's car window, startling him, and setting up a private interview with Alex, on the condition that it not be filmed, and the interview be conducted in his office. They schedule the interview for 2PM the next day, and the two temporarily part ways.

Alex is seen setting up his spy-pen, a pen featuring a video recorder and microphone, and heading towards Jerry's office, which is located at the top of a large building. After signing in with a receptionist, Alex sits down to a candid conversation with Jerry, who asks Alex how much he knows. During the meeting at his office, Jerry is direct and confrontational. He acknowledges the reality behind "Grave Encounters," revealing that the footage is real, albeit with some added visual effects. Jerry explains his actions as a mix of fear, financial desperation, and opportunism. Jerry's admission about the non-disclosure agreements with the families and the utilization of interns as fake directors (The Vicious Brothers) for press purposes highlights his pragmatic, if morally questionable, approach to salvaging his financial situation, which ultimately disgust Alex, who threatens to expose Jerry's involvement with the cover-up. As the meeting ends, Jerry dismisses Alex's threats to reveal the truth. Jerry's confidence in his position and the lack of tangible proof against him allows him to remain unbothered by Alex's intentions, who leaves the offices.

Back on campus, Alex shows the spy-pen's recordings to his friends, who are somewhat surprised at the new revelation. Alex announces that he wants to scrap "Slash N' Burn", and turn whatever footage they currently have into his new project, a documentary-horror film into Grave Encounters. Alex reveals that "DEATH AWAITS" is a user who lives right beside Riverview Hospital, which is how he knows so much about it. "DEATH AWAITS" wants to meet the film students on the inside of the building, pushing Alex to call for his friends to drive with him to Canada to finally explore the asylum. Although hesitant, Alex reassures his friends that the drive only takes two hours, and that they'll film the entire experience along the way, potentially getting into Sundance Film Festival.

On December 3rd, 2011, the friends are seen driving to Vancouver, Canada to explore and film the abandoned asylum in hopes of finding the truth. Their antics are fully seen, and the friends are happy in each other's company. As they finally reach the property, they reach a gate on the perimeter warning against trespassers. They open the gate and film the outside of the building, noting the massive scale of the grounds. They reach the front door, but as they leave the car to inspect the door, a security guard approaches behind them in a car. The guard confronts the students, who apologize and explain that they are trying to get a few shots for their project. The guard tells the students that the buildings are full of asbestos, and that they are too dangerous to be around. He demands Trevor turn his camera off, who declines. Irritated by Trevor's attitude, the guard states that there is absolutely no filming allowed on the premise, and that they must surrender the tape to him. After Trevor declines to hand over the tape, the guard jumps into the car with the film students through the driver's side window, causing Alex to panic and hit the gas. Once Alex begins to drive away, the guard is flung from the window, and runs to his car to radio for assistance.

Shaken by the encounter, the film students head to their hotel room at 6:11PM, goofing around in the hallways as they do. The students are seen partying and drinking in their room, while Alex films another vlog. Alex recounts their experience at the hospital, and their bizarre interaction with the confrontational security guard. While filming, Alex is interrupted by Jared and Trevor, who asks them to stop before cutting the the students watching the original movie. Tessa Hamill, the sound technician for "Slash N' Burn" and one of Alex's friends, questions the tongueless man from the first movie, and calls the original movie "fucking retarded", before taking a swig out of a bottle. The students party some more, before Alex continues his vlog, explaining that "DEATH AWAITS" has asked to meet in the western tunnel at 3AM that night. Alex goes over their equipment: 8 cameras with night vision, one studio camera with high resolution, a thermal camera, an EMF meter, bolt cutters, air horns, flashlights, and other miscellaneous gear, showcasing an impressive and upgraded set of equipment over the original 2003 crew. Alex states they their plan is to find proof of whatever Jerry Hartfeld has been trying to keep covered up for over a decade. Alex's partying friends interrupt once again, ending the vlog.

The film students are seen once again breaking unto the hospital grounds, this time parking their car before the gate and sneaking towards the hospital on foot. Distressed to see the guard's car with the siren lights on, they team ducks low to observe the situation, cutting their lights in the process. Having sensed the team's clumsy entrance, the guard shines his light towards the direction of the students, but unable to locate anything worthwhile, receives another call on his walkie-talkie and moves on. With the guard gone, the team moves up to the front door, and Tessa uses the bolt cutters to break the chain on the lock. The students enter through the front door and make their way into the lobby. The students are blown away by how creepy the atmosphere is, with plastic wrap and police tape marking the lobby's interior. The team is unnerved at realizing that the police really did investigate Riverview Hospital at some point.

Jared and Tessa are seen together setting up static cameras around the building, reminiscent of equipment technician Matt White in the first film. After the static cameras are installed, the students rendezvous in the lobby, filming their intro as "Alex's Awesome Documentary". Alex summarizes the disappearance of the original Grave Encounters team at Riverview hospital, and states their intent on meeting with anonymous source "DEATH AWAITS". Trevor is heard chuckling off-camera, much to Alex's annoyance.

At 12:45AM, the students make their way through a corridor, attempting to retrace the steps of the original Grave Encounters crew. Jennifer is recorded detailing how due to the sheer size of the building, they will leave glowsticks behind to mark their path, have a military grade GPS purchased at a spy shop, and will carry airhorns in the unlikely event that they become truly lost from each other. At 1:33AM, Jennifer introduces the bathtub where T.C. Gibson, A.K.A., Merwin Mendosir, was killed after being grabbed and vanishing inside. Alex declares that they will attempt to communicate with his spirit by use of recording an EVP. After catching nothing in the EVP, the team moves towards the third floor patient's room, asking for a sign. Alex suggests they use the thermal camera, and after catching a mysterious mist, Tessa quickly debunks the mist as nothing more than Trevor's flatulence. At 2:56AM, the team moves towards the service tunnels, where Alex narrates that these service tunnels marked Sean Rogerson's final moments alive. After Trevor makes fun of Alex's overexaggerated narration, Tessa suddenly stumbles over a mutilated half-eaten rat on the ground. By 3:25AM, the team has made it to the agreed meeting spot, a room in the west end of the service tunnels, but they seem to be completely alone. Frustrated, Alex declares his project as a disaster. Trevor suddenly notices the table they are sitting at is a spirit board. Brightened by their discovery, Jennifer encourages the friends to play it together. Alex and Jennifer place their hands on the planchette, and Jennifer attempts to communicate with the spirits of Riverview hospital. She sympathizes with the ghosts, and asks if there are any spirits present. The planchette moves, answering her question with a resounding "Yes". Alex is skeptical, accusing Jennifer of moving the planchette, but she insists that it's not her. Alex asks for a name, and the board spells out "Death Awaits", increasing with speed and power with every move. The students begin to become disturbed, but Alex inquires further. Alex asks for instructions from the spirit, and the planchette is quickly moved from their hands, spelling out "Film Everything" completely on its own. The planchette goes flying, prompting the friends to back off, and the table and chairs are suddenly flung upwards as well, causing the students to flee the room.

Barring themselves in an auxiliary room, the students have a mix of fear and excitement, having caught cement proof of the paranormal, and verifying that the events of the first film are real. Alex is particularly happy, having been vindicated despite his friends earlier doubts. The door, barricaded with a dresser, suddenly gets barged into, and the security guard steps into the room, having seen the cut chain and following their screams. He is wielding a gun, and orders the students to freeze where they are. The scene cuts to everyone standing in the lobby, with Alex agreeing to leave but not without the school's equipment. The guard is apathetic, and informs them that he intends to call the police. This leads Trevor to antagonize the cop, and the rest of the friends try and calm the situation down. The situation is interrupted by the sound of something screeching and heavy footsteps on the floor above them. The guard accuses the group of having a sixth friend, and leaves to investigate the sound, ordering the students not to move. The students try and convince Alex to leave to avoid being arrested, but Alex says that the equipment that they have is valued at over $50K. Their decision to stay or go is interrupted by the sound of gunshots, and the students leave to check on the guard, much to Jennifer's distress and Trevor's frustrations.

On the second floor, the friends find the guard's flashlight, with no trace of the guard anywhere. They inspect bullet casings on the ground, and Alex makes the decision to split up into two groups and grab their equipment, much to the chagrin of the rest of the group. Tessa and Jared go to retrieve half the cameras, while Alex, Jennifer, and Trevor go to retrieve the other half. This trip is interrupted by the sound of an airhorn blown by Tessa, which causes Alex's group to run over to the window room. Four hours and 55 minutes into their investigation, Tessa reveals that she found the window smashed, with Jared having been smashed through and thrown to the ground four stories below. Alex decides to review the footage to observe who threw Jared, and the group watches in horror as an invisible force is revealed to be the culprit. Forgoing their equipment, the team decides to make an abrupt exit from the hospital in order to call for help.

The teams escape is halted as the hospital's corridors turn around themselves, reminiscent of the first film. The team, who had been leaving glowsticks to mark their trails, realize the impossible situation, and come up with a new plan. They find a nearby map, looking for any direction towards an exit. Alex, however, has accepted what is happening, and is slumped against a wall, defeated. He solemnly announces the uselessness of the map, before the scene cuts towards the group aimlessly walking around. As the team ventures further, they discover what appears to be a children's ward, and meet a little girl humming and brushing her hair on a bed named Kaitlyn. She introduces herself, and asks the students for their name, before revealing herself to be a ghost of Riverview. She chases the students down the corridors, levitating down the hallways towards them. The students slam a door shut on her, and continue sprinting towards safety. Tessa takes a sharp turn left, which causes Alex to follow. However, a wall suddenly appears between the two, cutting them off. The students hear Tessa blowing her airhorn, but are unable to discern which direction the sound is coming from, effectively losing Tessa.

Alex is next seen speaking to the camera, declaring Grave Encounters as real, while Jennifer whimpers behind him. He reflects on losing Jared and Tessa, doubting he'll ever see them again, which upsets Jennifer. Alex hushes Jennifer, reassuring her. Alex questions why the building lured them all into it, and also questions the spirits intention for Alex to film everything. Trevor, off-screen, tells Alex to turn the camera off, which irritates Alex. The students then hear a loud bang just outside the room they are hiding in, and the room seems to become surrounded by loud rumbles. Alex embraces Jennifer, comforting her that he won't let anything happen to her.

The students then traverse up the stairs, which leads Trevor to question their motives to go up, rather than down. Silently, the group moves down a hallway, and see a strobe-like effect coming from a nearby room, with the sounds of electricity accompanying the visual. The students enter the room, and witness the guard being electrocuted on a gurney through the usage of intense Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Trevor calls for them to turn off the equipment, and the equipment sputters and sparks as they attempt. The guard is violently twitching and groaning, his mouth foaming. Once the ECT equipment is shut off, the guard stops moving, prompting Alex to investigate the state of the guard. Leaning in to check his pulse, the guard suddenly sits up screaming, begging the students to turn the equipment off, shouting out at the pain. The guard pleads for the students to get the bindings off of him, but the ECT equipment sputters back to life before they can with such intensity that the guard erupts into flames, effectively killing him. The students take a second to reel in from the event, with Trevor solemnly speaking on the stupidity required to come to Riverview Hospital.

The students venture further, and finally happen upon a gated window half-pried off, appearing to lead outside. Trevor runs up to the window, and asks for a crowbar, before using the crowbar to pry off the window. Content with his success, Trevor is turns around to face the group and inform them on their escape, but two long arms wrap around him through the window, smashing the glass. We see a contorted visage of a tall man appear in the window-frame, and Trevor narrowly escapes the ghost's grasp. The tall man freakishly climbs through the tiny window-frame, giving chase to the students. As the students run, the tall man seemingly grows in size, now having to duck just so not to hit the roof with his head. Unbelievably, the students actually find the exit to the hospital and escape out the front door. As they look behind them to see the tall man, the flickering tall man steps outside towards the group, only to explode into dust.

The students, now outside the hospital, see the body of Jared laying on the security guard's running car, and run towards their own vehicle with barely a second to mourn their deceased friend. The students drive through downtown Vancouver, stunned at their own survival, in shock at what they had witnessed. Alex drives the car, feeling vindicated at the proof of the paranormal. The exhausted team makes it to their hotel room, and Alex records himself in the bathroom mirror before cleaning the camera, while Trevor and Jennifer plead with him to return to the bedroom. Jennifer begs Alex to call the police, but Alex insists that they need to return home right away. Jennifer is distressed by this, insisting they cannot just leave without doing something. Grabbing their things, the students step out into the hotel, ready to go home, passing a maid as they hop into the elevator. Hotel cameras mark this event, noting the time at 4:24am. As the elevator door closes, Trevor pans the camera upwards to reveal the hotel maid suddenly standing in the middle of the hallway, completely still, staring at the students. Jennifer communicates her anger with Alex, who apologizes, insisting he didn't know the full extent of Riverview Hospital. Trevor chimes in, retorting that Tessa is probably dead, as directing his anger towards Alex, who coldly tells Trevor to shut up. The hotel doors open, and in a cruel twist, reveal the long dark hallways of the service tunnels as the elevator music slowly comes to a stop. The elevator camera's time is now scrambled, the elevator's floor panel is going haywire, and the confused students try and comprehend the entire situation. Alex informs them that everything they have witnessed was inside Riverview Hospital the entire time, and that the building was simply playing mind games with them. Jennifer is completely defeated, falling to the ground in despair, and Alex picks her back up to continue looking for an escape.

The students travel through the service tunnels, all in completely broken headspaces. Jennifer continuously gives up, holding a wall in resignation, but an agitated Alex pushes her further while Trevor yells out in frustration at the situation. A brief vlog from Alex while the other two are asleep reveals his inner thoughts. He tells the camera that he is not tired, but that everyone is ready to snap, before panning to Trevor and Jennifer sleeping against each other.

The students venture further, before pipes burst inn front of them, releasing steam in their direction. Fighting through the mist, the students lose sight of each other, and Trevor is forced to use their thermal camera to see. Spotting his two friends, he verbally guides them towards him, and pushes through a thicker black fog. Successfully bypassing the fog, the students turn around to see a new figure running up behind them. The thermal camera cuts, and when we return to the normal cameras, we see a disheveled looking feral man ordering them to turn the light off. The man gets the students to follow him through a vent filled with cobwebs and dead rats. Trevor's foot gets caught on a screw, and giggling is heard nearby. Trevor manages to free himself, and as he pans up to continue crawling, Kaitlyn reappears, giving chase through the vents.

The students make through to a secret hideout, where the feral man appears to have been living in. The man mutters "365" and scratches a tick mark on the wall, seemingly marking his year-long anniversary of surviving inside the walls of Riverview Hospital (despite the fact its been nine years). Alex suddenly flashes the light on the feral man, recognizing the man to be former TV host Lance Preston, aka Sean Rogerson, who was the protagonist of the first film. Sean tucks away in a corner, not used to the overwhelming company in his lair. The clearly unstable Sean is flabbergasted of being accused of surviving, before spotting a rat in the room. Sean picks up the rat, taking a raw bite out of it, much to the disgust of the rest of the students, even offering the students a bite of their own. Using the rat's blood, Sean finger-paints a red door on a wall, while Trevor pleads with Sean to help them find an exit. Sean asks if they're patients, and the students explain that they are film students who broke into the building. Sean asks why the students would bother breaking into Riverview, and Alex explains his desire to find the truth behind the first film. As Sean has no idea about the production of the first film, having been trapped in Riverview, Alex shows a copy of Grave Encounters to Sean. Sean pauses the preview, shocked to see his costar Ashleigh, reflecting on the fog that took her away in the first film. Alex, having seen enough, suddenly closes the film, and insists that Sean must have some information on how to escape. Sean launches into a repetitive ramble on how "Kenny's got the keys", which causes further frustration between the students. Alex explains how Kenny is deceased, and that Sean has been in the hospital for over nine years. Sean insists that if they wait a couple more hours, Kenny will come to get them out. Sean holds up a photo of nurses with their faces crossed out and replies: "Nine months, two days, eleven hours". The students questions if Sean truly believes he's been in the hospital for only that long, as Sean recounts his wall of scratches. Sean tries to comprehend this information, as Alex brings news of Sean's mother and her bout with dementia, which triggers Sean to yell at Alex to shut up.

With the students getting some much needed rest in a safe space, Alex wakes up his friends to film Sean using a pair of scissors to cut his long hair, including his unkept facial hair. Jennifer seems worried about Sean's access to scissors, but Alex reassures her of his safety. Trevor offers his opinion on distrusting Sean, who seems to be listening in on this conversation. Trevor asks Sean about his drawings, and Sean seems fixated on what he calls "The Door".

The group is suddenly shown a large red door in a stone archway, surrounded by chains. The camera pans around to reveal the door to be freestanding in an open room, with nothing on the other side. Sean explains its the only door he wasn't able to open. Alex suggests using the bolt-cutters, which Sean suddenly takes great interest in. Trevor explains it was in a bag they lost, but Sean immediately asks where they lost the bag. Returning to Sean's hideout, Sean uncovers a map of the building, explaining that the building is as massive as an entire city, perhaps even bigger. Sean elaborates that the building is constantly shifting and changing around itself. However, Sean explains that there are patterns to the building, and Sean himself has mapped out each one. Trevor reveals that the bag they lost was in a hallway surrounded by rooms with bathtubs. Sean measures the trip on the map, estimating the journey will take about eight hours. Trevor is irritated by the illogical freestanding door, which causes Jennifer to agree. Alex argues that the situation itself is illogical. Sean points towards a marked off location, explaining: "That's where Dr. Friedkin is". Jennifer asks about Dr. Friedkin, which allows Alex to explain the circumstances of the sadistic Dr. Friedkin, his satanic rituals, and his cruel experiments on his own patients. Sean points towards his glassy eyeball, and reveals that Dr. Friedkin personally lobotomized him. Sean seems triggered by the memory, and explains how Dr. Friedkin opened up a gateway between the spirit world and the material world. Sean continues that Dr. Friedkin used the building as a hole towards the spirit world, and placed a figurative lock on the building, with the lock being the red door, and the red door serving as the only way out.

Sean guides the students down a hallway and straight into a utility closet, which baffles Alex, doubting Sean's navigation skills. Sean closes the door and opens it again, once again revealing a utility closet. A small "whoosh" is heard, and when Sean opens the door, a new hallway appears. As they venture down the new corridor, a loud bang is heard behind them, and Sean orders the students to hide with him inside of a bathroom. As the students take a moment's rest, they spot Sean drinking water from a toilet. Sean puts on his infamous Ed Hardy shirt, and searches the map for new directions. Suddenly, Sean takes his lead pipe and smashes into the bathroom wall, destroying the tiling and startling the students. Sean insists the path is on the other side of the wall, but the loud noises seem to draw the attention of the living patients nearby. Terrified, Trevor insists on jumping through first, and the wall suddenly appears to have been a roof, with Trevor landing on the floor below, dropping the camera. The students check in on Trevor, who confirms he's fine, and that he has discovered the bag. Trevor spots the window in which he was grabbed through earlier, which now hosts a brick wall on the other side, rather than what was originally outside. The students and Sean make their way down to the floor below, and when Alex pulls out the bolt-cutters, Sean snatches them out of his hand. Sean comes up with a plan to rest for awhile before returning, then discovering what lays behind the red door.

Finding an empty office to rest in, Alex sets up a stationary camera in the event that something happens, noting the allotted time on the camera as 27 hours and 17 minutes in. The students sleep next to each other, while Sean clutches the bolt-cutters in the corner, rocking manically, before falling asleep as well. Alex is seen cuddling Jennifer during this time. As the camera marks 34 hours and 33 minutes, the camera inside Trevor's bag suddenly levitates, as if being operated by an invisible operator. The camera films around the room, filming the sleeping group, before dropping quietly into Trevor's bag. Feeling the sensation of the camera drop nearby, Trevor awakens and picks up the camera, stepping out of the room.

When Alex wakes up, he discovers Trevor's corpse in a nearby bathroom, with Sean nowhere to be found. Crying and mourning the loss of his best friend, Alex correctly deduces that Sean is the culprit behind Trevor's murder, and laments on how he should've listened to Trevor in the first place. Angered, Alex continues on how Sean further deceived them by taking their bolt-cutters, their water, and leaving behind only a bag. A horrified Jennifer reflects on how they are going to die in the hospital, but Alex has not given up. Jennifer asks Alex to stop filming her, and the camera is placed at their feet while Alex comforts her by reminding her how he will not let anything happen to her. As the two hold each other, Alex discovers that Sean left behind his map inside the bag. The two read the map, and make a plan to head straight towards the red door to intercept Sean.

Alex and Jennifer adventure through Riverview Hospital, following the map towards the red door. Jennifer enters a door labeled "Surgical Ward", but Alex reminds her how Sean told them to avoid the surgical ward, as Dr. Friedkin was present there. Distraught, Jennifer tells Alex that they don't seem to have any other choice. As the pair continue deeper into the surgical ward, they peel back tattered plastic to reveal an abandoned operating room filled with occult symbols and markings. The two are revolted by images of Dr. Friedkin's experiments on his patients, with grotesque images of opened chest cavities and flayed skin. The two poke around the room, but Jennifer reminds Alex of their goal, and how they must press forwards. Suddenly, a lamp turns on, and the two turn around to spot two nurses wheeling in a patient on a gurney. Left with no choice, the two hide behind a closet door, with the closet filled with jars. The pair watch as the nurses secure the patient to the operating table, preparing for surgery. One nurse records the surgery on a standing crank camera, and Dr. Friedkin himself suddenly appears to take over. Jennifer whimpers in horror as Dr. Friedkin lobotomizes the patient in front of the two. Dr. Friedkin looks over at the closet, and Jennifer quietly rattles against the shelf, not drawing any attention. The patient is revealed to have birthed a newborn baby, and in horrific fashion, Dr. Friedkin seems to offer up the baby as a sacrifice, chanting a ritual below a pentagram, and cutting the newborn's throat in front of its own lobotomized mother. Jennifer once again rattles against the shelf, this time drawing the attention of a nurse, who quickly contorts her face in front of the duo, causing them to flee in terror. The two turn around to see three nurses screaming at them, pointing in their direction as they run off.

Successfully finding a linen closet to hide in, the two go over their scrambled map. As they look up from the map, the linen closet suddenly changes into the room with the red door. They find the red door open, but as the two go through, nothing happens, and the door appears useless. They wonder if Sean was already able to use the door, securing their fates within Riverview. However, the two hear laughing, and spot Sean hunched over in the corner of the room. Jennifer accuses Sean of murdering Trevor, and Sean replies by insisting that Trevor was dead the second he stepped foot into the hospital, just like the rest of them. Sean opens a bag, and an arsenal of cameras come flying out, each being held by an invisible force. Sean explains that the ghosts told him that if someone could collect all the tapes, they would be allowed to leave. Sean gleefully informs the duo that it's going to be him that escapes. He tells the ghosts that he's been in the hospital for much too long, and asks the two if they have any idea what ten years can do to a person. Sean admits that he just wants to go home, and orders the two to give him the footage. Alex declines Sean's request, which only angers Sean, prompting him to attack the two in an attempt to take the footage. Sean begins to strangle Alex, telling Alex that the building chose Sean, and pleading with Alex to die. However, Jennifer takes Sean's lead pipe, and strikes Sean from behind, knocking Sean off Alex. Angered at the sight of his own blood, Sean decides to kill them both. As Sean gets to his feet, the wall rips open to reveal a portal. The force of the portal seems to draw everybody towards it, and the trio hold unto whatever they can in order to not be drawn in. Jennifer desperately holds unto Alex, while a confused Sean shouts at the hospital, insisting that he did what the hospital told him to do. Sean finally calls the hospital a liar, before being sucked into the open portal. As Sean is sucked in, the portal closes, dropping all the cameras in the process.

Shocked, Jennifer pulls Alex to his feet, checking in on him. However, Alex is in a dazed state, confident on what "Finish the Film" means. He calmly tells Jennifer that he finally figured out the ending to his movie, before turning the camera on her, telling Jennifer that she'll be the star. Alex coldly tells her that only one of them would be getting out, reminding Jennifer that she always wanted her death scene to be epic. Jennifer, beginning to understand Alex's intentions, begs for mercy. Alex then strikes Jennifer with the camera, apologizing to her before striking her again. Alex cruelly begins bashing in Jennifer's face with the camera as she pleads for he him to stop. Alex steps away, and speaks to the camera, saying he promises to finish the film, grinning, telling the hospital that he won't let it down. With that, Alex packs the cameras up into the bags, and heads through the red door, revealing outside. Alex records as he steps into a hillside field, and turns around to see the red door crumbling behind him, giggling as it does.

On December 5th, 2011 at 1:07am, a police cruiser's dashcam records as police encounter a bloodied Alex in a trance slowly walking in the middle of the road, holding his bag of cameras. The police draw their firearms on Alex as he slowly turns around, and the police immediately request backup. A police officer circles around Alex, and manages to detain him from behind. Panicked, Alex shouts out for his cameras, informing the office how he refuses to "go back there". Alex suddenly seams to snap out of his trance, asking where he is. One of the officer's informs Alex that he's currently in Los Angeles, California.

On October 1st, 2012, Alex and Jerry Hartfeld appear in an interview format. Jerry explains how the sequel came to be, with Alex approaching him in his office about the potential for a sequel. Jerry comments on the outrageous nature of the film, such as the ghosts using the internet and Lance being sucked through a portal. He clarifies that he would like to correct an error he made with the first film, and elaborates that the film is completely fake. The interview quickly cuts to the scene of Jennifer Parker's death, with Jerry watching the screen as Alex shifts uncomfortably in his chair, looking away. Jerry concludes that it was just a movie, asking Alex if there is anything he would like to say to the audience at home. Alex tells the audience not to go looking for the hospital, as there is nothing there, before coordinates to the hospital pop-up on the screen, ending the movie.

2: Trevor.

On October 31st, 2011, film student Trevor Thompson walks around costumed dorm party, filming the celebration with his own personal camera phone. Trevor firsts spots his friend Tessa Hamill, dressed as catwoman, making out with a girl. Trevor approaches them with encouragement, teasing Tessa about her sexuality, but is shooed away by her. Trevor then bumps into an uncostumed Jared Lee, another friend, who mocks Trevor's small handheld camera, as Jared is holding a movie-quality camera. Trevor retaliates by gloating about the size of his penis, and slamming Jared's genitalia in a racially charged joke. Trevor then spots his Jennifer Parker on a couch, talking with fellow students, dressed as a flapper. Trevor approaches her, greeting his friend, who responds by asking about the whereabouts of their mutual friend, Alex Wright. When Trevor feigns ignorance, Jennifer expresses her disappointment in his absence. Trevor asks Jennifer if she would like to make-out with him, offering a rain check when Jennifer responds with a nervous giggle and sip of her drink.

Trevor briefly leaves the party to look for his best friend Alex Wright, and barges in on his friend masturbating to porn on his computer. Angered, Alex scolds his friend for not knocking before entering, who makes fun of Alex for not enjoying the party. Trevor encourages Alex to find someone to hook up with, suggesting mutual friend and film student Jennifer as a likely candidate.

At the party, Trevor records Alex throughout the night, who is first spotted by Trevor speaking to Jennifer about the state of horror movies, expressing his opinion about horror movies, by suggesting they get rid of CGI and cheap effects and go back to using practical effects, to which Jennifer agrees. Alex then compares himself to horror movie director Wes Craven, before the scene cuts to Alex ranting about how he will become the greatest horror director of his generation. He celebrates with a shot, before the scene cuts to Trevor recording him throwing up in a toilet.

In the morning, we see Trevor recording Alex hungover from the night before, still in a dress and laying in his bed with a plastic male sex blow-up doll. Trevor is pleased with the reaction, suggesting his testicles will "go viral".

Trevor is seen walking around the university campus, asking fellow students where he can find himself some marijuana. Trevor is then seen smoking from a bong in Alex's dorm room, seemingly successful in his endeavors. Alex is scrolling on his computer, looking for comments on his film reviews.

On November 7th, 2011, Trevor watches as his friends take part in Alex's directorial student film, "Slash N' Burn", a slasher movie starring Jennifer. After the scene ends, Alex praises Jennifer's acting, before calling Trevor over to look at a a reply Alex received from a viewer. The username "DEATH AWAITS" has left a reply to Alex's message of "Re: who is this?", giving Alex the coordinates: 49.14.122.48. Trevor initially believes it to be a phone-number, but Alex insists that the message contains too many numbers to be a simple phone number. Present for the conversation, Jennifer asks about the situation with the mysterious user.

Trevor is seen hanging out with Alex and Jennifer in Alex's room, watching Grave Encounters.

3: Jennifer.

dorm party, filming the celebration with his own personal camera phone. Jennifer is first seen on a couch, talking with fellow students, dressed as a flapper.

Later in the night, Trevor manages to convince Alex to dress-up as a woman and attend the party, encouraging him to make a move on Jennifer. Jennifer is seen smiling at a drunk Alex rambling on about famous film directors and the state of modern horror movies, clearly interested in him.

On November 7th, 2011, Jennifer is seen starring in Alex's student film project, "Slash N' Burn". She appears in scene 03, portraying a character known as Stacey. Stacey is seen making out with her boyfriend Gary in a convertible on lover's lane, overlooking the Seattle skyline.

He directs Jared Lee, cinematographer and mutual friend, to prepare for a bird's-eye shot, and praises Jennifer on her impressive performance. Present for the conversation, Jennifer asks about the situation with the mysterious user.

Jennifer is seen hanging out with Alex and Trevor in Alex's room, watching the original Grave Encounters.

On November 28th, 2011, Jennifer is seen yelling at Alex, with Trevor and Jared listening in. Trevor and Jared quietly enter the dorm room to see Jennifer expressing her anger over Alex missing her play.

A few days later, Alex shows a call-sheet for a music video supporting his crazy claims to his friends, including Jennifer, and announces that he is going to be there for the music video tomorrow. Trevor attempts to discourage Alex, trying to remind Alex about their own movie, but Alex is too far gone. Jennifer questions the logic behind Alex's plan. Alex doesn't see the big deal in being gone for two days, and his friends submit to his plan, clearly becoming fed up with his behaviour.

Once Alex returns from his trip, Alex shows a spy-pen's recordings of producer Jerry Hartfeld vindicating Alex's claims to his friends, who are somewhat surprised at the new revelation. Although most of the friends are hesitant, Jennifer catches everyone off-guard by supporting Alex, asking for any other logical explanation for the recording. Alex reassures his friends that the drive only takes two hours, and that they'll film the entire experience along the way, potentially getting into Sundance Film Festival.

The guard confronts the students, and Jennifer apologizes and explains that they are trying to get a few shots for a student project.

Tessa Hamill, the sound technician for "Slash N' Burn" and another mutual friend, questions the tongueless man from the first movie, and calls the original movie "fucking r*******", before taking a swig out of a bottle. The students party some more, before Alex continues his vlog, explaining that "DEATH AWAITS" has asked to meet in the western tunnel at 3AM that night. Jennifer is seen jumping and dancing around the hotel room, including sharing a toast with Tessa. Jennifer is seen jokingly throwing Alex to the bed, enjoying a brief intimate moment with him. Jennifer and the partying friends interrupt once again, ending the vlog.

After static cameras are installed all around the hospital, the students rendezvous in the lobby, filming their intro as "Alex's Awesome Documentary". Right before the take, Alex is seen speaking to Jennifer, getting her prepared as his co-host. Alex summarizes the disappearance of the original Grave Encounters team at Riverview hospital, while Jennifer states their intent on meeting with anonymous source "DEATH AWAITS". Jennifer explains that while they wait, they will be conducting their very own paranormal investigation to conclude if Riverview Hospital is truly haunted. Trevor is heard chuckling off-camera, and Alex is seen shushing him.

Tessa and Jared go to retrieve half the cameras, while Jennifer, Alex, and Trevor go to retrieve the other half. This trip is interrupted by the sound of an airhorn blown by Tessa, which causes Jennifer's group to run over to the window room.

Tessa takes a sharp turn left, which causes Alex to closely follow.

Jennifer and Alex are seen cuddling during this time.

When Jennifer wakes up, she and Alex discover Trevor's corpse in a nearby bathroom, with Sean nowhere to be found. Jennifer is seen sobbing in disbelief and terror.

We see Jennifer's breathing slow and voice soften with each strike, until her only visible eye is seen slowly closing, ending Jennifer's life at the hands of her former crush.

In a post-credit scene filmed by Tessa back in the hotel room before the investigation, a tipsy Jennifer is seen confiding in Tessa about her disappointment at the Halloween party, reflecting how she was "throwing herself" at Alex, sad that he didn't pick up on her cues. Jennifer is confused by Alex, explaining to Tessa that she has been trying for months to get together with Alex. Tessa replies by explaining that Alex is quite shy, but Jennifer counters this by saying it wouldn't take much from Alex at this point to get together with her. Jennifer reveals that her entire motivation for coming on the trip was to spend more time with Alex. Jennifer checks on the recoding status on the camera, which Tessa initially claims is not recording. Tessa quickly realizes her mistake, and ends the recording while the two laugh embarrassingly.

On November 7th, 2011, Jared is in charge of recording friend Alex Wright's directorial student film, "Slash N' Burn", a slasher movie starring Jennifer Parker. After the scene ends, Alex lets Jared know that they will be setting up the bird's eye view shot, before praising Jennifer's performance. Once Trevor, the producer, calls for the early dismissal, Jared is seen working on the lens of the camera, and appears excited at the news alongside audio operator Tessa Hamill.

On November 23rd, 2011, Jared, Trevor, and Alex all make their way to the Rogerson household after gaining access to an exclusive interview opportunity with the former host of TV Show "Grave Encounters", who has been missing for several years. Jared brings along his camera, recording the entire ordeal, with Trevor recording on his personal camera. The trio speak with Mrs. Rogerson about Sean, before she invites them to wait for Sean in his bedroom. When the students enter the bedroom, they find the room to be frozen in time, seemingly untouched for years. They are interrupted by a woman claiming to be Mrs. Rogerson's nurse. The nurse promptly kicks them out, but not before Mrs. Rogerson claims that Sean will be right back upon return from filming his show at "the hospital for crazy people". Outside, the nurse explains to the trio that Mrs. Rogerson has dementia, and that she was never supposed to be allowed access to her phone. The students then leave empty handed.

Jennifer ends up storming out, much to the excitement of Jared, who is visibly thrilled to see some drama with their friends. After Jennifer leaves, the two attempt to console Alex. Alex claims that his work is more important than Jennifer's play, but Jared and Trevor encourage Alex to make amends with Jennifer, pushing for a romance between the two.

After Alex's trip to Hartfeld Productions in Los Angeles, Alex shows the secret footage he recorded of Jerry Hartfeld to his friends, with Jerry admitting that the events of Grave Encounters is completely real. Convinced that they need to investigate the matter further, Alex asks if they'll come with him to Riverview Hospital to create a better project than "Slash N' Burn". Though Trevor is reluctant, Jennifer gleefully agrees after seeing Jerry's confession of a cover-up. Jared is convinced after Alex highlights that he will receive his cinematographer credit.

On December 3rd, 2011, the film students are seen on a road trip to the hospital, with Jared filming the rowdy experience from the backseat with his cinematic camera. After some time, the group arrives at the hospital during the daytime and begin recording after opening a locked gate. Before the crew can even step out of their car, they are stopped by a security guard who pulls up behind them. Jennifer explains that they are simply trying to get some exterior shots of the grounds, but the security guard insists that the building is filled with asbestos, and that they must leave immediately. He orders Trevor to turn his camera off, declaring that their is absolutely no filming allowed on the premises. However, after Trevor refuses and taunts the guard, the security guard attempts to climb into the car in a bid to secure the tape from Trevor. Panicked, Alex hits the gas and the security guard is thrown from the car.

Safely back at the hotel, the film students party in their room with some alcoholic beverages. Jared is seen drinking with Tessa while Alex records his blog, and Jared can even be seen setting up his camera on a tripod and recording his own partying footage. Jared then spots Alex talking to his blog and interrupts the blog, which encourages the rest of the students to do the same. After some antics, the students go over their equipment, while Jared offers a more upbeat attitude to Alex's more serious demeanor, even showing off his ski mask as the film students plan to break into the buildings under the cover of the night.

That night, the group pulls up the gate and walk in. However, they immediately spot the security guard from earlier. The students hide, but the security guard seems to spot them. Luckily, the guard is pulled away on his radio to another assignment, and the group approaches the infamous front door. Tessa uses bolt cutters to break open the lock and chain, and the group enters the lobby.

Inside the main building, Jared and Tessa split up from the rest of the group to begin setting up the cameras all around the abandoned hospital. Together, they setup cameras in: 1st Floor East Hallway, 3rd Floor Patient Room, 3rd Floor Bathroom, 4th Floor Window Room, the Service Tunnels, and at least 3 other miscellaneous areas.

Grouped back at the lobby, the students film the intro to their new movie. They proceed to film all around the hospital, showing off their equipment, all of which makes them much more prepared than the original crew of the first movie. The film students begin attempting to contact the living patients of Riverview Hospital and the ghosts of the original cast, however, after several attempts, make no progress. Disappointed, the students make their way into a room located in the service tunnels after finding a dead half-eaten rat nearby. Resting at a table, they wipe away the debris on the table and realize the entire table is a Ouija board. Using the Ouija board, the team is finally able to contact the dead. The situation escalates as the Ouija board begins to move on its own, before throwing several objects in the room in different directions. The students run to a different room and barricade themselves in with both shock and excitement. They hear something on the other side of the door, and after hushing each other, the door is violently thrown open. The cause of the barging is revealed to be the security guard, who is already furious with the students form earlier. He threatens the group with legal action, and says he spotted the broken lock from earlier.

Back at the lobby, the angry guard begins scolding the group. While the group pleads their case, the guard says he is going to call the cops, much to the anger of Trevor. During the argument, a growl and footsteps are heard from above. The guard accuses the group of having more people nearby, and pulls out his gun to investigate, ordering the group to stay put in the lobby. With the guard gone, the group debates on whether or not to leave. Alex wants to stay and collect more footage, while Jennifer just wants to leave while they can. Suddenly, gunshots are heard upstairs, and the students run to see if the guard is alright. However, the find the guard's dropped flashlight and several bullet casings freshly fired. The group agrees to leave, with Alex telling everyone to split into groups of two's to go collect the cameras.

Jared and Tessa are once again put into pairs, and are seen in a hurry to grab the cameras set-up from earlier. They seem to get temporarily lost once they get to the fourth floor, and even happen to briefly get split up once Jared enter the window room. Jared walks over to the camera, but before he can dismantle it, the window behind him opens, calling back to Kenny Sandoval's claims of that same window somehow being opened every morning. Jared hears this, and approaches the now open window. He calls out for Tessa, but when he turns back around, he spots something off-camera, and a quiet unintelligible whisper is heard. Jared quietly mutters "What are you doing here?", before he is violently launched backwards into a window, smashing it and throwing him four stories towards the ground to his death, Jared screaming all the way down. As the gang ran out of the hospital after some time, Jared's seen within splattered blood on the hood of an police cruiser.

Demons!

Tall man: This behemoth, estimated to be between 7’ and 8’ tall, has a grossly extended jaw as though it had been violently unhinged and he is naked, his lanky body lacking any hair or sex characteristics and being smattered with blood. He crashes through a glass window and tries to pull Trevor Thompson back into the darkness before climbing through and pursuing the crew, disintegrating into something like dust once he reaches the front door of the hospital.

Kaitlin: The only ghost aside from Friedkin to be identified by name, she is a little girl who appears to Alex Wright and his film crew at the children's ward. She identifies herself and asks the group to play with her in a disembodied voice before distorting and giving chase. She later attacks Trevor in a ventilation shaft at the hospital's basement level after he gets his foot caught on a screw and separated from the others, but he escaped through unknown means and reunites with his friends shortly after. Besides the usual face contortions, she also bends her limbs at odd angles.
