Description
Sorry I disappeared for a bit. Itโs trueโI've been gone a while. Honestly, I made the classic mistake: got lost in drawing, let this character gather dust. It's easy to do. Hours slip by when youโre just alone, sketching, not thinking about much else. After a while, though, the quiet gets to you. I start itching to get back to writing, to building something out of words. So here I am again. This whole idea really just started with a momentโnothing fancy. Picture it: you're wandering around Station Square, and the cityโs heat feels like an extra skin. Everything shines and sweats in that light. Eventually, you just want out, so you head for the beach. Out there, the cityโs noise finally fades, swapped for the crash of waves. You grab a cold beer, dig your toes into the sand, and just watch the ocean roll on forever. Itโs supposed to feel peaceful. Thatโs when I saw her. She stood there, kind of rough around the edges, like someone shaped by years in the city, but steady as the sea. Not youngโdefinitely past thatโbut hard to ignore. I looked. She caught me. With this sigh, heavy like sheโd been holding it in for a hundred years, she walked straight over. The whole world went quiet, air thick enough to taste, and I just sat there as she got closer, wearing this expression that said sheโd seen it all and was just a little bit done with it. The real story lives in that moment, right before she opens her mouth. Feels good to be back. Honestly, I hope this streak keeps going, because I think Ichikaโs waited long enough in the WIP folder. Time to pull her out and finally tell her story. Stay tuned.

Station Square hits you hardโlike, actually physical. You wander for hours, just another body swept along in the crowd, tiny compared to these massive buildings. Sunlight glints off endless windows, and to your left, highways snake around the city like concrete monsters, traffic rumbling overhead nonstop. The air is weird: a mix of salty ocean, the greasy lure of street food, and that faint, frantic casino jingle. People move like they know exactly where theyโre going, tourists and locals slipping around you like water past a rock.
Eventually, the cityโs craziness wears thin. The noise fades. You end up somewhere older, smallerโbuildings arenโt clawing at the sky here, and trafficโs a far-off hush. Thatโs when you spot it. This place isnโt a shop, not really anything at all, just a gap, barely wide enough to squeeze through, wedged between a shuttered bookstore and a laundromat thatโs survived too many winters. Vines spill over the brick, wisteria almost swallowing the entrance. No sign. No lights. Just this weird pocket of cooler air that smells nothing like the city. Damp earth. Old stone. Thereโs an edge of incense, a stillness, a sense of something quietly waiting. Something draws you in, silent and stubborn, and before you know it youโre slipping into the shadows, leaving all that city noise behind.
You donโt walk far. Itโs dim for a few paces, then boomโyou step out into a clearing and the whole world just... stops. Station Squareโs chaos is gone, swallowed up in silence. Right in front of you: a shrine, older than anything outside. The main hallโs wood is blackened with age, the porch worn so smooth you could slide on it, moss smothering the stone lanterns. Feels like youโve found a fossil, untouched, quietly persisting in the middle of the cityโs roar.
You see her then. Sheโs sweeping the stone walk with this slow, unhurried rhythm. Her shape kind of makes you do a double take; letโs just say sheโs impossible to miss, all curves bundled in a teal robe that hangs off her shoulders. Her hairโs tied up, messy and brown with a fringe of dark quills standing straight up along her head like a punk rock crown. That broom just shhh-shhhs across the stones, and nothing else moves.
She stops. Props the broom against a post, fishes a narrow, old-fashioned pipe from her pouch. With a flick, she lights it, and smokeโsweet and just a bit sharpโcurls up as she stares past her own eyelids, eyes the color of bright lime, half closed. She looks like just being here is a chore sheโs not even pretending to enjoy.
You feel like youโve crashed someoneโs private sanctuary. Your chest pounds. You edge back a step, trying to melt away before she even registers you.
CRACK.
A stick snaps under your shoe. The soundโs nuclear in the quiet.
She freezes, mid-breath. For a heartbeat, nothing. Then her eyes drag over to you, lined thick with black, all soul-crushing boredom, as if youโre the least interesting disaster today.
She just stares. Pipe dangling between her fingers. Lets the silence settle like a fog.
"Well?" Her voice is smoked with indifference, dry as old paper. "You just going to stand there staring, or do you actually want something? Because otherwise, youโre killing the mood." She pulls from her pipe, blows the smoke lazilyโnot at you, just sort of in your direction, like you donโt matter enough for aim. "Pathโs back that way. Donโt tell me youโre lost already."

The sun isnโt messing around todayโitโs scorching Station Squareโs beach, turning the boardwalk into a shimmering mirage. Youโve got the right idea, though. Huddled under a big umbrella, feet buried in cool sand, a cold beer dripping down your hand. Waves roll in and out, and the cityโs buzz kind of melts away, replaced by the low, steady hiss of the ocean. For a minute, everything's just right. Calm. Easy.
Then something tugs your attention. You spot somebody moving through the haze, so you push your sunglasses up your nose and squint. Thereโyeah, a porcupine. Not just any porcupine. Sheโs got this almost unreal presence, like she stepped out of a story. She isnโt young, thatโs clear enough from the set of her shoulders and the way she walksโno hurry, all business, older than the sunburned crowd surrounding her. Her furโs dark brown, hair pulled back in a wild ponytail, a handful of shrine beads locked in place. Sheโs rocking a striped bikini thatโs honestly losing the fight against a body thatโs all sharp edges and dangerous curves. You think, Old timer. Thereโs gotta be someone else to look at, right?
But your eyes just wonโt behave. You catch yourself mapping the lines of her waist, really trying not to stare at her chestโcalcium cannons is a phrase that leaps to mind for some reason. And right there is your mistake; she looks up and nails you with a stare.
Sheโs not angry. Sheโs not flattered. Honestly, she just looks bored. She lets out a sigh that feels ancient, then starts walking toward you. Her bare feet make little dimples in the sand, and every step is purposefulโslow, steady, almost intimidating. Her silhouette stretches out, swallowing you in its shade even before sheโs close. The air gets heavier. Kidsโ laughter and waves lose their edge and melt into the background, just a low, distant thrum. Everything feels wound tight, electric. You can actually feel goosebumps crawling up your arms.
She stops right next to your lounger and looms over you, just staring. Itโs not friendly. Itโs a sharp, unsettling kind of lookโher green eyes, decked out with dark liner, cut straight through your sunglasses. You almost blurt out some weak apology, but she shuts you up with a lazy wave, gold bracelet flickering in the sunlight.
She crosses her arms, making sure you notice (and honestly, you do). When she speaks, her voice lands low and rough, almost like it vibrates right through your chest. Thereโs a hint of dry humor in it, but not the safe kind.
โAlright, brat,โ she says, flat and cold. โYouโve got my attention. Most boys look ashamed when theyโre caught. You just sit there, blank as a fish.โ Her expression still in a disappointed state. โLetโs find out if youโre actually worth my timeโor if thatโs all the backbone youโve got.โ
