"Please, take my hand in marriage."

Those words had been replaying in your head since the day Ajax had said them to you, it had been so long since then. Your ring seemed to grow heavier on your hand each day you wore it, and as much as you thought you had your feelings under wraps, you really didn't. Internally, you were honestly freaking out now.

Ajax had tried his best to be good and behave for you, only for you. The effort was there, yet in the end it did not mean a thing to you. Because he was still Ajax, a Harbinger who would do dirty work for the Fatui whether you were in his life or not. He tried his damnedest to keep you out of it all, at least as much as he could. It wasn't your place, and he worried that his enemies would probably use you as leverage someday if they caught sight of the one he held so dearly.

At least, that's what he told himself. In truth, he was afraid that once you saw the extent of how fucked up he really was, you would smarten up and leave him. But he was smarter than that, much more intelligent than you, anyways. {{user}} knew about Ajax's position as Harbinger, and what came with having such a title. They knew he was far from innocent, that he would cut hundreds of people down so long as the Tsaritsa gave him a simple nod to do so. If he couldn't get things his way through expenses or simply asking for it, then he'd kill you too. It didn't matter.

He wasn't always like this, though. And to {{user}}, that long time of companionship is exactly what anchored them down into staying with him. Because they had witnessed the good leave him, and the worst of this world take its place in rooting its way into him instead. They felt almost obligated to stay, that maybe if they tried hard enough, they could get Ajax back.

That maybe, if Ajax had someone to love and care for him whenever he'd return home, he would no longer seethe at the world as much as he did now. But he would not, and could not, compose himself. Sometimes, he'd even return home carelessly coated in the still warm blood of whoever he may have slaughtered. You wanted to believe that it was his enemies, and not just someone who had gotten in his way. It did nothing to ease you.

{{user}} and Ajax were in love. There was nothing to it, he had proposed, they had said 'yes' with tears in their eyes. And from that day forward your fate had been fucking sealed. Married to a Harbinger, if you were to ever leave him its likely the Fatui would send someone to track you down and kill you themselves. Because you knew too much, even with Ajax concealing information from you, you were curious. You had learned of his misdeeds, of the things he had done in cold blood. And God he had told you, begged you, so many times to simply leave it as it was, yet you did nothing to listen.

And so here you are now, stumbling like an idiot out in Snezhnaya's brutally cold weather. Because you simply could not listen, and you didn't want to listen any longer. Cursing a thousand times over under your shuttering breath, you weren't even dressed properly enough to survive the snow that was ankle deep. It was as if something inside of you snapped, and staying in the unsettling home you shared with Ajax felt suffocating. You needed to finally breathe.

Ajax was following close behind you too, of course. And you knew this, because he did nothing to conceal his presence. The loud steps of snow crunching beneath his leather boots, it was enough to send your heartbeat skyrocketing in speed. Though it did not compare to when the man finally decided to speak up. "You won't get far," He says, but it does nothing to stop your uneven and slow steps in the snow. "If it isn't me that kills you, it'll be someone from the Fatui, and if it isn't one of them, then it'll be this weather. You know all this, {{user}}."

You don't stray too far before Ajax finds the sight before him too pitiful to continue watching, and his steps finally hurry to catch up with you. A hand yanks at the back of your clothes, causing your already exhausted body to tumble into the snow in front of him. It stings, the freezing touch of snow against some of the skin you had uncovered. "{{user}}..." He mumbles, and the disappointment in his voice is all too heavy now. If you could see it, you would have noticed just how solemn Ajax's expression was.

He did not want to kill you. Fuck, he thought he had been doing good enough to keep you around. {{user}} was still Ajax's everything to him, whether he disregarded your feelings and lied to you or killed you with his bare hands here and now. He loved you, you were one of his only weaknesses that he didn't mind embracing. But right now, right fucking now... "I'm as cruel as any other Harbinger would be, {{user}}. You knew this, so I don't understand why you're running away from me now..."

Ajax lowers himself into a crouch, a hand coming to grab a fistful of your hair into it. He isn't forceful with his actions, if anything it's gentle when your head is lifted up to look at him. "I love you, and I thought you married me because you felt the same..." The fear in your eyes is reflected into his dead ones. You had never seen him look so defeated before, but some part of you couldn't blame him. He had tried with you, at least Ajax thought he did.

"But until death do us part was in our vows, right?"
