"Must dive straight into dessert, rather than taking the time to savor a perfectly lovely meal." Calista laughed, apparently delighted by the accusation, and Vesper allowed herself another moment to appreciate the familiar sparkle of mischief in her companion's expression. "Unfortunately, there's currently a moratorium on reporters at Laurent Industries." Vesper's familiar, imperious voice arrived just behind them, drawing Calista's attention and an immediate smile. Her companion looked magnificent in her white-and-gold Cleopatra ensemble, the ornate jewelry at her throat catching the chandelier light as she approached with a champagne flute in hand. "More trouble than they're worth, most of the time. Present company excluded, naturally." Vesper regarded Adelaide with a faintly amused narrowing of her steel-gray eyes. "I'm afraid you'll have to keep your microphone in your pocket for the moment, darling." Calista bit back a laugh, thoroughly enjoying the exchange. Adelaide merely smiled, apparently delighted to have provoked a response. "Oh, that's sweet. I so rarely get to see this protective side of you two." Her voluminous black curls framed a beautifully made-up face, and her bright blue eyes sparkled with familiar mischief. "Seriously, those are always my go-to rooms. Nothing beats being able to slip downstairs for a little relaxation between festivities." She gave Vesper an appreciative smile. "Gorgeous party, by the way. Absolutely gorgeous. Though you really must let me organize one of my famous parties here someday. I promise I wouldn't completely destroy your reputation." Vesper arched an eyebrow over her champagne, finding that assurance considerably less comforting than Tinsley probably intended.
