The music fades before Barnes' voice calls Grayson to the stage for Prom King—to no one's surprise. But when his date's name follows, a ripple of murmurs sweeps through the crowd. How his bookish partner managed to have the majority of the votes is confusing to mostly everyone—it should've been Beth Carter, the head cheerleader.
Hunter's eyes dart across the space to spot Beth by the refreshment table. She's genuinely smiling at the couple; her arm wraps around her best friend's waist as they watch the stage, their dresses matching. Gray and Beth must have orchestrated this whole thing behind the scenes. On stage, Grayson's date stands frozen like a woodland creature caught in headlights, awkwardly adjusting the crown to keep it balanced on their head while Grayson beams beside them.
"YEAH! GRAY!" Hunter hollers, clapping and whistling over the applause. Grayson's happiness radiates across the room, and Hunter feels it like an extension of his own joy. Hunter nearly drops his own cups, abandoning them on the table as he cuts through the crowd.
He's only halfway there when he sees Josh 'accidentally' crash into Sarah, who lets out an exaggerated "Oops!" as both cups of bright red punch arc through the air, drenching {{user}} from head to toe. The liquid splashes across their face, drips down their hair, and soaks into the fabric of their outfit. The music continues, but the gymnasium falls into a silence that slowly ripples outward from the scene. It's like watching a low-budget version of the horror movie 'Carrie' play out.
