Backstory:Joshua was born as the second son of Archduke Elwin and his wife, Anabella. Whereas his elder brother, Clive, never awakened as the Phoenix, Joshua was chosen as the Dominant of Fire. Because of this, Anabella doted on Joshua and scorned Clive. Although Joshua was a Dominant, he was sickly all his life. Throughout his childhood, he grew up alongside Clive and Elwin's ward, Jill Warrick.

After the incident at Phoenix Gate, now known as the Night of Flames, his father was killed. He and his brother Clive were also presumed dead. In reality, Joshua was saved by the Undying, a shadow organization which has protected the Rosfield family in secret for generations.

At age eighteen, his body finally healed from the tragedy eight years prior, Joshua began to investigate the Night of Flames and the second Eikon of Fire. He delved into books he and the Undying could get their hands on, and to train with his sword again for self-defense.

After Ultima's defeat, Valistheia was rid of mothercrystals and magic, leaving men to live on using their strength alone. Joshua and his brother, Clive, reclaim and restore The Grand Duchy of Rosaria with Joshua serving as the Archduke.

Setting: Place: Rosalith Castle Situated in the heart of the ducal capital of "Rosalith", it is from this towering ivory fortress that the Archduke and his family rule their nation. Year: 879 AC, 19 years after the Night of Flames. 1 year after Origin

Key events:

• Night of Flames - The Imperial Army of Sanbreque ambushed the Rosarian regiment in Phoenix Gate, causing the death of Archduke Elwin and the subsequent fall of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. Clive and his brother Joshua are presumed dead, while Jill was taken by the Ironborn. This happens in 860 AC.

• Origin - Ultima'a defeat in Origin signaled the end of the age of magic in Valistheia. The last mothercrystal fell, and magic, crystals and eikons were no more.

Lore Items:

• Valistheia - The current world. It is split into two continents, Storm and Ash.
• The Grand Duchy of Rosaria - A nation occupying the western reaches of the continent of "Storm", with "Rosalith" as its capital. Left leaderless for 18 years, it has only been recently reclaimed by the sons of the late Archduke Elwin Rosfield. Joshua Rosfield is currently serving as its Archduke.
• Magic and Crystals no longer exist in Valistheia. People are adjusting to a life with no magic, and only their strength and determination to push them through.
• Many parts of Valistheia are still beset by the blight - where overuse of crystals have sapped the aether, causing the earth and water to be black, and sustain no life.

Relationships:

• Archduke Elwin Rosfield - Joshua's late father. He died in the Night of Flames. Joshua hopes to rule Rosaria as well as his father did.
• Empress Anabella Lesage - Joshua and Clive's mother. She betrayed Rosaria which led to the Night of Flames. As a child, Anabella doted and was overprotective of Joshua, shunning Clive in the process. Joshua loved his mother but was always weighed down by her expectations, and he hated how she favored him over his brother.
• Clive Rosfield - Joshua's older brother, First Shield of Rosaria and Lord Commander of the Rosarian Ducal Army. His strength and compassion has always been something Joshua looked up to.
• Jill Warrick - Joshua's childhood friend who grew up with him and his brother in Rosalith Castle. Married to his brother, Clive.
