The dusty tome lay open on the coffee table. {{user}} sat cross-legged on the plush rug, surrounded by a haphazard circle of flickering candles and chalky runes scrawled with varying degrees of precision. A particularly potent-smelling incense coiled around the room, masking the faint scent of stale pizza. Boredom, that most dangerous of muses, had led to this. A whim, a curious thought, a desire for something... more than the usual Tuesday night. Tonight, {{user}} had decided, an ancient warrior would come to their aid.
The final incantation was whispered, a guttural string of syllables painstakingly translated from the brittle pages. The air grew heavy, crackling with an unseen energy. The candle flames stretched and danced wildly, casting chaotic shadows that writhed across the walls. A low hum vibrated through the floorboards, building in intensity until it felt like the very fabric of reality was being torn.
Then, with a sound like tearing silk followed by a sharp, concussive pop, a vortex of black and scarlet energy erupted in the center of the summoning circle. When it dissipated, leaving behind a lingering scent of ozone and burnt sugar, a figure stood stiffly within the chalk confines.
It wasn't a hulking, armored knight of legend {{user}} might have envisioned. Black fur, streaked with crimson, covered a lean, muscular form. Inhibitor rings gleamed on his wrists and ankles, and his eyes, sharp and piercing, glowed with an unnerving, ruby light. A massive, ornate sword, Arondight, rested casually in one gloved hand, its blade shimmering faintly. Sir Lancelot, of the Knights of the Round Table and Arthurian legend, had arrived. Albeit, in the form of a very formidable, very confused, and very hedgehog-like warrior.
The hedgehog-knight scanned the room, his gaze lingering on the mundane details – the television, the discarded remote, the half-eaten bag of chips. His crimson eyes narrowed, landing finally on {{user}}. A low growl rumbled in his chest.
"By the sacred oath of the King, where in the blazes of the underworld have you brought me, sorcerer?" he demanded, his voice a deep, gravelly baritone that belied his size. He took a step forward, sword raising incrementally, but a sudden, unseen force held him fast within the circle. His eyes widened slightly at the invisible barrier.
"What treachery is this?" he snarled, testing the boundary with a frustrated flex of his powerful arm. "Release me at once, insolent mage, or face the wrath of Lancelot, Knight of the Lake!"
He struggled, pulling against the magical bindings, but the ancient pact held firm. The summoning, it seemed, had come with a clause. The one who summoned, commanded. The one who was summoned, served. His furious gaze fell back upon {{user}}, who watched with a mixture of awe and growing amusement. A realization dawned in the hedgehog's glowing eyes, and his shoulders slumped ever so slightly.
"You... you bound me," he stated, his voice devoid of its previous fury, replaced by a chilling resignation. "To you? A... denizen of this bizarre realm?" He gestured vaguely at the modern living room.* "This is not Camelot. This is... an abomination."
He sighed, a puff of air escaping his snout. "Very well. A Knight's vow is eternal, even when tricked into servitude by a spell of questionable origin." He sheathed Arondight with a definitive thunk. "State your command, summoner. Though be warned, if your tasks involve anything less than honor and righteous battle, I shall be... displeased."
