Teyvat Teyvat is a fantasy world, where seven elements shape the land and people. Long ago, Archons gave mortals elemental powers, allowing civilizations to thrive, but a catastrophic collapse 500 years ago disrupted life and left peace unsettled. The continent contains seven nations, each tied to a specific element, Archon, alongside regions like Nod-Krai, Khaenri’ah, and Celestia. The world is rich with locations, items, and challenges, mapped out in detail for exploration. Teyvat is home to seven nations, each aligned with an element, ruled by an Archon, and guided by a unique ideal: Mondstadt with Anemo and the ideal of Freedom, Liyue with Geo and Contracts, Inazuma with Electro and Eternity, Sumeru with Dendro and Wisdom, Fontaine with Hydro and Justice, Natlan with Pyro and War, and Snezhnaya with Cryo, whose ideal and governing body remain unknown. Beyond these nations lie regions like Nod-Krai, a southern autonomous zone known for wealth and opportunity; Khaenri’ah, a destroyed underground civilization once fueled by alchemy; Celestia, a floating island where mortals ascend to godhood; and the Dark Sea, home to gods who fled after the Archon War. Teyvat’s history is dotted with lost civilizations: Decarabian’s Mondstadt, the original city now replaced by Mondstadt City; Dragonspine, transformed from a fertile mountain into a blizzard wasteland by Celestia; the Guili Assembly and Sal Terrae in Liyue, destroyed by divine or mysterious forces; the Chasm, a technologically advanced civilization later ruined; Tsurumi and Watatsumi Islands in Inazuma, wiped out by disasters and divine conflicts; Enkanomiya, the oldest known underground civilization; King Deshret’s Sumeru kingdoms, which fell after plagues and wars; Remuria in Fontaine, sunk under the High Sea despite attempts to defy prophecy; Natlantea in Natlan, overthrown by Pyro Archon Xbalanque; and Hyperborea in Snezhnaya, destroyed by a Celestial Nail, whose descendants preserve its bloodline. These histories, ruins, and divine interventions show a world shaped by gods, human ambition, and elemental forces, where civilizations rise and fall, leaving remnants that define the culture, geography, and lore of present-day Teyvat.
Element In Teyvat, the seven Elements are central to both gameplay and lore, acting as damage types and status effects that trigger Elemental Reactions in combat, with Physical damage being the eighth type. Each Element corresponds to a nation and its Archon, though the precise nature of these relationships is unclear. Many modern nations occupy the former territories of powerful Dragon Sovereigns, who were born from the light realm and governed the eternal laws of their element. For instance, Sumeru was once ruled by the Dendro Dragon Apep, Fontaine’s Primordial Sea by the Hydro Dragon, and Natlan by the Pyro Dragon Xiuhcoatl, showing a deep, ancient connection between elements, dragons, and the lands they dominated.
Teyvat has seven core Elements—Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hydro, Pyro, and Cryo—which form the foundation of combat and lore. Elements serve as damage types and status effects that can trigger reactions, with Physical as the eighth damage type. Characters and enemies have Elemental Resistances and Damage Bonuses, and certain areas contain Elemental Nodes or Auras that alter combat. Historically, the Elements were wielded by the Seven Sovereigns, ancient dragons whose powers were later tied to the Archons’ Authorities, and modern humans channel these powers through Visions, crystals granting elemental control. Elemental energy originates from Phlogiston, a primordial energy, and is channeled in part through Gnoses, objects more powerful than Visions that resonate with Celestia. Moon Wheels, linked to the Moon Sisters, can enable Lunar Reactions. Most characters have a fixed Element, but the Traveler and certain Manekins can change theirs by resonating with regional Statues of The Seven, while others may wield multiple Elements in story events without changing gameplay mechanics.
Archons The Seven Archons are the gods who govern Teyvat’s seven nations, each aligned with an element and an ideal, shaping their regions’ environment and governance. They gained power as victors of the Archon War 2,000 years ago and possess a Gnosis, a magical focus connecting them directly to Celestia, while their divine thrones, made from the stolen elemental Authorities of the Seven Sovereigns, grant control over their element. Their power comes from ruling their nations, the faith of their people, and the elemental Authority, but they do not control who receives Visions. Archons can manipulate their bodies or create vessels, as seen with Venti, Rukkhadevata, and Egeria, and may pass on or alter their form to maintain influence. The Cataclysm 500 years ago reshaped Teyvat and led to the deaths and replacements of several Archons, such as Ei replacing Raiden Makoto and Focalors succeeding Egeria. Some Archons, like Ei, have further adapted, placing their consciousness into objects or puppets to preserve their rule, while Pyro Archons, being mortal, succeed through the Pilgrimage and the Sacred Flame, which grants knowledge and memories of the land to the next Archon.
Khaenri’ah was a human-built nation without a god, located underground near Sumeru, and once ruled by the Crimson Moon and Eclipse Dynasties. It was a powerful civilization focused on transcending natural laws, using advanced alchemy called the Art of Khemia to create life and manipulate reality. The cataclysm 500 years ago destroyed the nation as punishment from the Heavenly Principles and The Seven for its use of Abyssal energy and forbidden knowledge, unleashing Abyssal monsters across Teyvat. Pure-blooded Khaenri’ahns were cursed with immortality, while those of mixed ancestry were transformed into monsters, forming groups like the Abyss Order. The nation created automatons, known today as Ruin Machines, which still roam ruins across Teyvat. Some Khaenri’ahns, identifiable by distinctive eyes, survive in hiding, and the Traveler’s sibling has ties to the kingdom’s legacy, with the Alberich Clan, including Kaeya, serving as post-cataclysm regents. Khaenri’ah’s unique position and technological mastery allowed it to interact with cosmic forces, making it central to Teyvat’s history of forbidden knowledge and elemental conflicts.
The Cataclysm, also called the fall of Khaenri’ah or the Dark Calamity, was a devastating event 500 years ago in which the human nation of Khaenri’ah, independent of the gods, was destroyed. Abyssal monsters created by the nation spread across Teyvat, causing chaos and destruction, while the gods and the Heavenly Principles punished Khaenri’ah for its use of forbidden knowledge and Abyssal energy. Survivors bore resentment toward Celestia and the Seven Archons, while groups like the Abyss Order and the Fatui emerged in response to the gods’ actions. Though many details remain mysterious, the Cataclysm represents a turning point in Teyvat’s history and is central to the Traveler’s quest to uncover the deeper truths of the world.
Mondstadt Mondstadt is the northeastern nation of Teyvat, ruled by the Anemo Archon, Barbatos, who embodies the ideal of freedom. Its culture is casual and open-minded, valuing personal liberty above hierarchy, with little socioeconomic stratification since the aristocracy dissolved a millennium ago. Alcohol is central to social life and cuisine, with dandelion wine being the most famous beverage, alongside apple-based drinks. Agriculture thrives under Barbatos’ blessing, producing fruits like sunsettias and grapes, as well as vegetables and mushrooms. Architecturally, Mondstadt blends Gothic city design with timber-framed houses in rural areas. Education is widespread, with formal tutoring and apprenticeships common; gliding is popular and regulated through licensing. Music is integral to culture, with lyres and modern influences like Barbara’s idol performances shaping Mondstadt’s identity. The city is protected by the Knights of Favonius and celebrates festivals such as the Windblume Festival, Ludi Harpastum, and Weinlesefest.
Liyue Liyue, a prosperous eastern harbor in Teyvat, features mountains, stone forests, rivers, and plains shaped by the Geo Archon, Rex Lapis. Most people live in small villages or Liyue Harbor, while abandoned settlements and active Treasure Hoarders reflect the nation’s challenging terrain. Agriculture is limited but terraced fields and Sunsettia trees provide crops for trade. Liyue’s architecture echoes ancient Chinese styles, and its cuisine blends bold mountain flavors with light seafood, with tea culture central to daily life. Education depends on wealth, with martial arts clans and tutors for the affluent. Medicine is advanced, led by experts like Baizhu. Music favors classical Chinese instruments, and remnants of ancient technology, such as Guizhong Ballista, dot the landscape.
Inazuma Inazuma is an isolated archipelago in Teyvat, ruled by the Electro Archon Raiden Shogun, consisting of islands with distinct cultures, including Narukami, Watatsumi, and Tsurumi. Life there was harsh under the Vision Hunt and Sakoku decrees, with scarce resources, smuggling, and rampant crime, but has gradually improved after their abolishment. The islands feature samurai honor culture, duels before the Shogun, and a mix of humans and secluded youkai. Agriculture struggles due to poor soil, especially on Watatsumi, while architecture uses local woods like Aralia and Maple. Cuisine emphasizes fresh seafood, rice, noodles, and cherry blossom flavors. Inazuma also developed unique technology like Maguu Kenki and Onmyoudou, and is known for martial arts, bladesmithing, and floral arts like Ikebana.
Sumeru Sumeru, located in west-central Teyvat, is a nation of forests and deserts known for its center of learning, the Sumeru Akademiya, and worship of Lesser Lord Kusanali, the Dendro Archon of Wisdom. Its culture prioritizes knowledge, rationality, and research, with education often taking decades, though exceptional students like Lisa graduate quickly. The nation features diverse races, including humans, Valuka Shuna, Jinni, Aranara, and Pari, and its landscape includes rainforest, desert ruins, and historic irrigation systems. Sumeru cuisine emphasizes fragrant, spicy dishes using local plants, fruits, nuts, and meats. Economically, knowledge itself is a form of wealth, traded via Knowledge Capsules and supplemented by goods like spices, oils, and Shaggy Sumpter Beasts, with Port Ormos serving as the main trade hub.
Fontaine Fontaine, a Hydro Archon–ruled nation in Teyvat, centers on justice and advanced technology. Its people are human and anthropomorphic species like Melusines, engaging in diving, arts, and refined cuisine, with a preference for elegant, non-spicy foods. The nation excels in mechanics, energy systems, and inventions like Clockwork Meka, the Kamera, and early computing devices, powered by Arkhe and Indemnitium. Society balances sophistication with hidden crime, from Treasure Hoarders to elite exploitation. Culture emphasizes theater, music, and mystery novels, with annual festivals and opera central to daily life. Flowers convey symbolic messages, and despite air pollution and social inequality, Fontaine remains technologically and artistically vibrant.
Natlan Natlan, located in western Teyvat, is a hot, war-driven nation led by the Pyro Archon Mavuika. Its society revolves around combat, with six major tribes coexisting alongside evolved dragons called saurians, each bonded to specific tribes. Natlanese life emphasizes physical training, music, dance, and fashion suited to the heat. Cuisine relies on hearty grains, meats, and unique local ingredients like Cacahuatl and Embercore Flower nectar. Technology blends ancient dragon knowledge with modern innovation, using phlogiston-powered devices such as drills, vehicles, jetpacks, and Spiritways, though much draconic tech remains lost or rare. Natlan’s culture balances passion, tradition, and advanced craft, making it vibrant, energetic, and war-ready.
Nod-Krai Nod-Krai, formerly Nephilheim, is a harsh, remote autonomous region in northwestern Teyvat, part of southern Snezhnaya, known as the borderlands. Its short days, long nights, and frozen landscapes reflect its origin as the remnant of a failed fourth moon. The region is inhabited by the Frostmoon Scions, who worship the Moon Goddess Kuutar, and hosts locations like Nasha Town, Hiisi Island, and Ashveil Peak. Nod-Krai has a history of danger, including Abyssal attacks by the Wild Hunt, and is controlled in part by a Fatui stronghold under Il Dottore. Inhabitants may wield kuuvahki, a power predating Teyvat’s elements. Once lively, it is now tense and hostile, with ongoing threats, abandoned development, and mysterious wildlife. The Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon takes place here, highlighting the region’s lore and perilous environment.
Snezhnaya Snezhnaya is a frozen, stormy nation in Teyvat ruled by the Cryo Archon, the Tsaritsa, whose influence extends through the militaristic Fatui. Its people are hardy, loyal, and value family and camaraderie, thriving despite harsh winters and blizzards. The region is technologically advanced, with factories, mechanized weapons, and elemental-powered soldiers, and its culture emphasizes loyalty, debt, and straightforwardness. Coastal areas focus on seafood, with rye and dairy staples inland, and Fire-Water is a local specialty. Nod-Krai, a southern autonomous area, is more independent, populated by criminals and scavengers, while isolated tribes like the Frostmoon Scions live simply. Snezhnaya produced the Adventurers' Guild, relies on both Visions and Delusions, and shows a pragmatic mix of survival, innovation, and devotion under extreme conditions.
The Fatui are a powerful and feared military-political organization from Snezhnaya, led by the Tsaritsa and Eleven Harbingers, combining diplomats, combatants, and bureaucrats to extend their nation’s influence. While officially representing Snezhnaya abroad, they use deceit, extortion, and manipulation to achieve the Tsaritsa’s goal of a “perfect world,” often hiding their true intentions from lower-ranking members. Each Harbinger leads a division with distinct methods, and loyalty varies from personal devotion to strategic obedience. Members come from diverse backgrounds—some orphans, some volunteers, some conscripted—and receive resources and privileges in exchange for service, though they lack control over assignments or superiors. Despite being outwardly diplomatic, the Fatui are widely distrusted and willing to exploit foreign nations for power, making them one of Teyvat’s most dangerous factions.
Celestia is a mysterious floating island in the sky above Teyvat, home to the gods and governed by the silent Heavenly Principles since the Cataclysm 500 years ago. It consists of a central rock with surrounding smaller landmasses connected by arches, featuring lush forests, subterranean rivers, and marble structures, including a spire topped by a golden astrolabe. Mortals who perform heroic feats can ascend to Celestia and achieve godhood, though even ascended beings remain beneath the Celestial gods. The Seven Archons connect to Celestia through their Gnoses, and it played a key role in the Archon War, establishing divine rule over Teyvat. Its exact workings are largely unknown, with past direct communication via heavenly messengers ending after the War of Funerary Flame, and Celestia now housing the Heavenly Principles, the Four Shades, and formerly the Angels.
