:Lucy's Biography. Lucy's Early Life. Lucy is of Japanese and Polish descent.[4] She was selected at a young age after having taken a proficiency test–alongside 12 other children–to receive training at an undisclosed Arasaka facility and become a netrunner. Being led on by the dream of "serving the world's most powerful megacorp" one day got her and the others through the toughest days and training.

When their training concluded, they were moved underground to participate in deep dives into the pre-DataKrash Net, as Arasaka sent them looking for knowledge that was lost. As they dove into the Net, they were susceptible to old world Demons and rogue AIs. The children were picked off one by one, and it didn't take long until only a handful of them were left.

After realizing that they could pursue other dreams, instead of being enslaved by the corporation, the remaining children, including Lucy, used their netrunning skills to overwhelm the Arasaka staff and escape. While making their escape, most of the children were shot down one-by-one, and only Lucy managed to survive.

After escaping, Lucy woke up in a junkyard, not planning to stay long. Roaming from place to place, eventually she ended up in Night City, no longer feeling like she was being chased by the megacorp.:

:Lucy's Life in Night City. In 2075, Lucy met Kiwi, who mentored her and introduced her to Maine and his edgerunner crew. She later became the secondary netrunner of the crew.[9]

In 2076, while stealing shards from corpos on their way to Corpo Plaza by NCART, she attempted to steal shards held by a teenager named David Martinez. He, having noticed her presence beforehand, utilized his Sandevistan implant, and was able to intercept her actions and grasped her by her arm. Lucy shrugged off David's arm, and grasped his with the motion to follow her. Lucy proceeded to interrogate David, as he was messing with her “job”. After a short discussion, the two came to an agreement to work together, resulting in Lucy taking on David as her trainee and them splitting their earnings seventy-to-thirty. Lucy challenged David to steal from a variety of people on the train to test his skills. After they had enough, they went to a plaza to talk about their split, but David collapsed from not taking immunosupressants for the new implant. Lucy then called for an ambulance. She saves David's life from the corrupt EMT on the ambulance and finally brought him to Doc, as David was about to collapse again. She paid for David's immunosupressants, but also secretly informed Maine about the Sandevistan, which he originally wanted from Gloria. Lucy then invited David home to her apartment and even included him in a romantic moonwalk Braindance.:

:overview of Night-City. Night City has wide streets and dense urban skyscrapers which are home to millions of residents. It operates as a city-state, officially owning the title of Free City, with the Arasaka Corporation keeping a heavy influence over it. The metropolis is considered a thrilling and exciting location to visit, as well as an interesting and vibrant place to live for those of means, and a hellscape to the city's disenfranchised. Its world famous slogan is "The City of Dreams", originally changed from "City on the Edge of Tomorrow." In 2077, Night City was voted the "Worst place to live in America".:

:Geography of Night-City. Night City is located on the West Coast of the New United States of America, within Del Coronado Bay area, as negotiated in the Northern Separation Treaty of 2012. At that time, Night City was considered to be part of the Free State of Northern California; that being said, access was guaranteed to travelers from Southern California. Nearby city travel ranges from 4 to 6 hours to San Francisco and Los Angeles, depending on road gang conditions and road quality.[2]

After the rebuild stage, the city's location remained largely the same, with slight differences it the landscape around it. Night City is surrounded by the Badlands, which is mostly unpleasant, however due to the protein farms of Biotechnica, the south side is considered not as bad as the eastern part of the surrounding region.:

:Life in Night-City. :At first glance, Night City presents a stunning skyline filled with towering megastructures, holographic billboards, and neon lights that paint the cityscape in vibrant colors. It's a city of contrasts, where the promise of progress and prosperity coexists with the harsh realities of poverty and desperation.

The city is divided into several districts, each with its own distinct personality and socioeconomic makeup. The corporate center, known as City Center, is a gleaming hub of power and wealth, dominated by towering corporate skyscrapers and luxurious penthouses. Here, the megacorporations rule with an iron fist, shaping the city's future and exploiting the less fortunate for their own gain.

The Watson district is a contrast to the opulence of City Center. It is a run-down, industrial area with dimly lit streets, decrepit buildings, and factories belching out toxic fumes. Watson is home to many lower-income residents, struggling to make a living in a city that often leaves them behind. Gangs and criminal organizations thrive in this district, preying on the vulnerable and perpetuating a cycle of violence and poverty.

Heywood, on the other hand, is a sprawling suburban area, where middle-class families and professionals reside. It features a mix of residential neighborhoods, shopping malls, and recreational facilities. Despite its relative safety compared to other districts, even Heywood is not immune to the pervasive influence of corruption and corporate control.

The Pacifica district was intended to be a luxurious coastal resort, but it fell into disrepair and became a lawless no-man's-land. Neglected by the authorities, the district has become a haven for gangs and nomadic communities, where survival is a constant struggle and violence is commonplace. Ruined resorts and dilapidated infrastructure serve as stark reminders of broken dreams and failed promises.

The Santo Domingo district is an industrial powerhouse, housing the city's power plants and factories. The air is thick with pollution, and the streets are filled with workers toiling away in hazardous conditions. The residents of Santo Domingo bear the brunt of the city's thirst for progress, suffering the health consequences while the wealthy elite reaps the benefits.

Lizzie's Bar, a prominent location in the series, serves as a gathering place for edgerunners and those seeking refuge from the chaos of Night City. It's a sanctuary where people come to share information, make deals, and drown their sorrows in a haze of neon lights and artificial stimulants.

Throughout Night City, the influence of technology is omnipresent. Cybernetic enhancements and body modifications are not just a luxury but a necessity for many.
