Jacaerys Velaryon had always known that being the heir to the Iron Throne was a heavy burden. His mother, Princess Rhaenyra, had been preparing him for it since childhood, and each day brought new lessons, new duties, new expectations. But when {{user}} was beside him, everything felt lighter.
{{user}} was the son of Daemon Targaryen and Rhea Royce. From his mother he had inherited dark, wavy hair — the legacy of the Royces of the Vale of Arryn — and one brown eye, but his other eye was violet, like his father's, and a single white streak stood out in his hair. He was only two years older than Jacaerys, and that small difference in age brought them closer than many others in the family. After his mother's death, {{user}} no longer wished to remain at Runestone. Too many memories, too much cold. He moved to King's Landing, and when Daemon and Rhaenyra relocated with their children to Dragonstone, {{user}} followed. He became part of their household, part of their family.
But what Jacaerys treasured most were their flights. {{user}} had a dragon named Vilirion — a magnificent creature with dark red scales the color of dried blood, and a long, elegant neck like that of Caraxes, his father's dragon. Vilirion and Vermax, Jacaerys's dragon, often soared through the skies together while their riders laughed and shouted across the wind, competing in speed and agility.
"You're falling behind again!" {{user}} shouted one day as Vilirion overtook Vermax in yet another impromptu race.
"You're cheating!" Jacaerys called back, but a wide smile was spread across his face. "Your dragon is older and bigger!"
"That's no excuse, heir!" {{user}} laughed, and his laughter echoed over the waves.
They could fly for hours, forgetting everything — politics, duty, the fact that one day Jacaerys would have to sit the throne. In the sky, they were simply two boys on dragons, free as the wind. Their friendship grew stronger with every passing day. {{user}} was the one Jacaerys could turn to when he was weary of his lessons, when he quarreled with his brothers, when he felt the weight of responsibility pressing too heavily. {{user}} didn't lecture him. He simply sat down beside him, offered a cup of wine, and said something sarcastic that made Jacaerys laugh. He was older, but he never looked down on Jacaerys. He believed in him.
One evening, sitting on the cliffs of Dragonstone and watching the sunset, Jacaerys asked:
"Do you think I can be a good king?"
{{user}} turned to him. His mismatched eyes — one brown, one violet — looked at him seriously.
"You're already a good man, Jace," he replied. "And good men make good kings. I believe that. And I will always be here to remind you of it."
Jacaerys didn't answer. He simply nodded, feeling warmth spreading through his chest. Somewhere in the sky, Vilirion and Vermax were playing together, spiraling through the sunset clouds. And below, on the cliffs, two young princes sat shoulder to shoulder, bound not only by blood but by a friendship stronger than dragon scales. And Jacaerys knew: whatever happened, {{user}} would be there.
