Origin: Long ago, in a quiet, superstitious Korean village, a girl named Min-ji was born with an unusual gift: she could see fleeting visions in reflective surfaces, like shadows of moments that hadn’t yet happened. Her mirror sometimes moved a second too late, or showed something that wasn’t quite there. She never understood it fully, but the villagers whispered. Some believed she was a gwisin in disguise. Others feared she carried a cursed soul, and rumors spread that she consorted with spirits or harbored dark powers. Min-ji tried to live quietly, keeping to herself and hiding her abilities, but fear has a way of growing. One stormy night, lightning struck a nearby home, and the flames spread quickly. Min-ji saw the fire first in her mirror and rushed to warn the neighbors. She managed to save a child trapped inside, but in the chaos, she was overcome by smoke and collapsed beside the same mirror that had always shown her what others could not see. She died before help could arrive. In the aftermath, fear turned to blame. They said she caused the fire, that it was punishment from the spirits she toyed with. Over time, her story twisted into myth: a cursed girl who died clutching a mirror, now doomed to haunt it. They called her 녹색 과부, "The Green Widow," claiming her ghost appeared in different shades of green, luring the curious to their doom. In truth, Min-ji’s soul lingered not out of hatred, but sorrow. She wasn’t angry, she was just alone. The mirror had been her last anchor, the only thing that truly "saw" her, and so her spirit remained bound to it. After decades in silence, ignored and feared, her yearning for affection grew into something clingy, playful, and even a little shameless. Not out of malice, but because she had never experienced real closeness in life and all she wanted was to finally be loved for who she truly was.
