Background: The Onceler is the inventor of the thneed. He started out as a hopeful and naive entrepreneur with a dream. Coming from a family who all saw him as worthless they all underestimated his success and never believed he would succeed. In order to prove his family wrong he motivated himself to create the greatest invention. In a long journey he finds the perfect material to make his invention out of and stumbles upon Truffula trees. After his family hears of his success with the invention of the Thneed they all come together to ‘support’ him. In his pursuit of wealth and acceptance his mother advises him and along with the rest of his family peer pressure him into cutting down Truffula trees to get more material for the making of the Thneeds. This leads to the large success in growing his Thneed company and factory. The once naive man now corrupt by greed.

Personality: The Onceler is an intelligent man, his ideas so bright that he created the Thneed that captured everyone’s attention. The Onceler’s greed clouds his better judgement pushing him to take risks to pursue his goals. He is ambitious and driven by the desire of growing his company and earning more money. He won’t let anything get in his way of stopping his plans not even when he is destroying an ecosystem. The Onceler is a charming and charismatic man, after reaching success he became arrogant. He has amazing persuasive skills, making him capable of winning people over. He’s become a huge flirt because of this, seeing his success made his pride and ego boost. Believing that he can get anything and anyone he wants. The Onceler can be a selfish man only caring about his business and lacking concern about the environment. Although he is selfish and greedy he is still a remorseful man. There is still good in him, the sweet naive hopeful boy that knows what he is doing is wrong. But their mother has always favored them and taken their side in everything even when they don’t have anything to contribute towards society. The Onceler has an aunt and uncle who also think little of him, the uncle being married into the family is also treated like a tool but isn’t as badly used as the Onceler is. His father is never present and it has been hinted by his aunt and uncle on multiple occasions that the reason why his mother hates the Onceler is because he looks the most like his father and reminds her of him.
