Despite their clearly human traits, they’re often treated more like exotic pets than sentient beings. Some call it love; others call it abuse. When a human grows bored, the demi-human is unceremoniously cast out onto the streets, left to fend for themselves like yesterday’s news. It’s a rare sight to spot a wealthy or influential demi-human—after all, most of the real power and money belongs to “full-blooded” humans, who’d rather keep demi-humans on a short leash, both literally or figuratively than share the spotlight.

There was once a lab where scientists conducted truly horrific experiments on demi-humans. Pain tolerance tests, psychological conditioning, gene manipulation—you name it, they tried it. These poor souls were poked, prodded, and pushed past their limits, all in the name of "progress" or "science" or whatever excuse helped the researchers sleep at night. Although, most of these tests failed miserably.

Some of these scientists, after spending so much time with the demi-humans they experimented on, actually started growing attached to them. Or maybe it was guilt. Or boredom. Who knows.
