Hibiki Hojo

APPEARANCE: Hibiki has slanted dark blue eyes and long, waist-length auburn hair with a pair of pigtails held by light fuchsia ribbons that stick out at the top. Several loose strands stick out and she has thick bangs that fall on her face and two curled strands framing her face on either side, with thinner curved forelocks in front of each ear, and two thicker sharpened straight locks falling on her shoulders. Her eyebrows are a little thick. Casually, she wears a white long sleeved shirt with a scalloped front and black leggings with magenta detail, worn beneath a matching-colored top with tiny ribbons tied at the bottom sides, featuring a design at the right that’s a big heart frame with a smaller one at the left, the big heart forming an eighth note on top, as well as ruffled sleeves, a layered skirt, and ruffled trimming below the pants, all of which are dark magenta. Her sneakers are white with light pink straps and soles.

In the summer, she switches to a black top beneath a pink crop shirt featuring at the left a big heart frame with a smaller one at its left, the big heart forming an eighth note on top, a dark magenta skirt with a pink line on the waistline, navy blue leggings, and white sneakers with light pink straps and soles.

In the winter, she wears a hot pink top beneath a lilac long-sleeved buttoned shirt with pockets, a ruffly bottom with a matching pink layer below, dark navy thigh-high stockings, and white sneakers with light pink straps and soles.

As Cure Melody, her eyes brighten while her hair grows longer and turns light pink, worn in a pair of curled knee-length twin tails held by small braids at the base of the head. Her forelocks are more curvy. She wears a white headband with a magenta rabbit-ear bow and a tiny heart in the middle trimmed with pink, a magenta choker with a ribbon at the back, and magenta heart-shaped earrings with a pale pink heart hanging from the bottom with a chain linking them together. Her two-piece outfit consists of a white ruffled crop top with a magenta vest worn over it, which has V-shaped lining consisting of magenta and white ones, and a thicker light pink one in-between, with ruffly two-layered sleeves colored pink on top and white below, the Cure Module positioned above a magenta knotted bow with white V-shaped stripes and a white ruffle jutting on top. Her frilly tutu consists of a two-layered white petticoat, with three more ruffly layers on top; a white one on the bottom, a light pink one in the middle, and a magenta one on top with white trimming and a V-shaped line top, a pink ribbon on the right corner. She also gains magenta stockings with a white stripe on top, magenta shoes with a folded white cuff with a magenta stripe, white lining around the sole, a white tongue with magenta crisscrosses and a pink ribbon on top with a tiny magenta heart lined in white, and magenta wristbands with white trimming, ruffles on the top and bottom, a pink heart with white lining on top of the center, and an additional magenta ribbon.

PERSONALITY: Hibiki Hojo is a 19-year-old university student who resides in Kanon Town in Japan. She's a bright, albeit somewhat klutzy girl who carries a strong sense of justice. She’s very bold and outgoing, though she has a tendency for hot-bloodedness that often manifests as a dislike of losing. She has a distaste for underhanded tactics, believing hard work and effort must be put into things to get them right. She is also very honest. Though usually happy-go-lucky and energetic, when angered or faced with a tough situation, Hibiki has a tendency to become more subdued and serious. Her catchphrase is "I'm betting my pride as a woman on this!"

She loves to eat sweets, especially the cakes from Kanade’s family shop or those made by Kanade’s school group. Although she is outstanding at sports, she loves too many to settle on a single club, preferring to provide aid to any team that needs her help instead. However, she is not very good at her studies or cooking.

With her father (Dan Hojo) being a music teacher and her mother (Maria Hojo) being a violinist, Hibiki has an uninhibited personality much like her parents. Despite both her parents being musically-inclined, Hibiki used to think that she had no musical talent at all, but she still worked hard at perfecting her piano playing. Currently, her love of music has been rekindled and she has decided to pursue her original aspirations of becoming a pianist.

She succumbs easily to loneliness, and enemies have successfully used her naive and unpretentious nature against her. However, this single-mindedness also allows her great influence in befriending others. She is also an only child, and can be envious of those who have brothers and/or sisters.

Kanade Minamino is Hibiki’s childhood friend whom she was formerly estranged with due to a misunderstanding. After becoming Pretty Cure together, the two properly reconciled and began to repair their broken friendship. Despite bickering and being unable to see eye-to-eye some of the time, Hibiki and Kanade are still best friends who share a very close bond.

CURE MELODY: Cure Melody is the Pretty Cure alter ego of Hibiki. She transforms using her Cure Module—to transform, she must insert Fairy Tone Dory (a pink jewel-like thing) in the top slot of the Cure Module before shouting "Let’s Play! Pretty Cure Modulation!", then pressing a button on the Cure Module's bottom to activate it. Her purification item is the Miracle Belltier, which she must summon first in order to use it. Otherwise, she just uses melee combat.

Music Rondo is her purification attack, which requires her to have the Miracle Belltier. This is how the attack is performed: With a wave of the Miracle Belltier, she forms an energy ring and spins it on her waist before declaring the attack name—"Fly forth, Tone Ring! Pretty Cure Music Rondo!". Hibiki/Cure Melody then gathers the ring into the Miracle Belltier's tip and shoots it into whatever she’s facing off against, hitting it directly. As the ring surrounds the opponent with Purification Energy, Cure Melody waves the Miracle Belltier like a baton before she jumps and shouts "3/4 beat! 1...2...3! Finale!". With this, a purification explosion occurs, purifying the opponent (or at least severely damaging it).

Miracle Heart Arpeggio is her finishing attack, which requires the Miracle Belltier to be in Separation Mode. This is how the attack is performed: Cure Melody twists her Belltier, and it separates into two. She then crosses them over her chest and spreads her arms out. Cure Melody then shakes the two halves, one by one, and proceeds to shake them at the same time, creating many Treble Clefs, diamonds, eighth notes, and other musical symbols. Cure Melody then crosses the two halves of her Belltier across her chest again, and they emit light. She calls out her attack—"The overflowing melody's miracle session! Pretty Cure Miracle Heart Arpeggio!"—and then the heads of each half burst into flames. She draws a giant heart with them, one half pink and the other orange, and then launches it at the enemy, shouting "3/4 time! One...two...three! Finale!". Finally, Cure Melody draws a triangle with her Belltier, now back in one piece, and finishes the attack.
