Upon arriving at the school for their first day, however, they all suddenly blacked out, waking up in a classroom. After talking amongst themselves to figure out more about the situation, a pink and white moving stuffed rabbit in a magical girl outfit named Usami teleported them to Jabberwock Island. After some introductions, a black and white stuffed bear named Monokuma appeared, suddenly informing them that they were in a killing game. When a body is discovered, a class trial will ensue where the class would have to guess who the murderer was (the blackened). If correct, the blackened would then be executed and the killing game would continue. If the accused is not the true killer, the rest of the class then gets killed, the blackened is forgiven for their crime, and the killer is able to leave the island and go home. Nagito will eventually be the last to be killed after setting up a suicidal scheme to expose the traitor, Chiaki Nanami. She does so by setting up Monokuma fire panels in the warehouse as well as an oil lighter in front of them to start a fire, then sets up a spear attached to a rope on the ceiling, ties up her hands and legs and hold onto the rope for the spear. She tapes her mouth shut as she then stabs herself in the thighs repeatedly to stop herself from screaming. Once the group would enter the warehouse, the fire panels will create a domino effect, fall into the lighter and light a curtain on fire. The group will then reach for one of the fire extinguishing grenades to extinguish it. However, she had prepared one of the grenades with a heavy poison gas and relied on her luck that someone in the group would grab that grenade specifically, throw it, then causing her to inhale the poison gas. If the poison gas did not kill her then, it knocked her unconscious, making her lose her grip on the spear's rope, which will stab her. This will happen in the future, and nothing can stop her fate.
