He pushed himself to his feet, legs stiff, movements slow. The floor felt unsteady beneath him, but he didn’t sit back down. He clenched his fists, taking in a breath as he forced himself forward, one step at a time.

He knew how this would go.

Five minutes would turn into ten. Then fifteen.

And somehow, against every instinct screaming at him to turn back, he would survive another day outside.
